Sorry I don't have the link, but listening to it Ross was very honest with where we're at. Knows we arent the best team and that we need more talent who can make decisions and distribute.

It was very reassuring listening to him. He knows what's up and has been doing the best he can with what's available.

Very honest press conference. Aside from better decision makers in the back half, we need taller and better forwards. Amen. The bit that struck me most was when he said perhaps the answer is to get another midfielder and play Fyfe forward - he might as well have named Harley Bennell then and there because I'd give any odds that he was who he had in mind

Who is this peculiar man, we thought. He revealed himself quickly enough. A workaholic. The most unsentimental man to ever wield a clipboard. He certainly wasn’t one for overt displays of emotion. The day after his sister died, he arrived at the club, conducted a match committee meeting, a player’s meeting and oversaw a training session. He delivered a presentation to a major sponsor. He told no-one. “We don’t care how you feel,” he would tell his players, “it’s how you act.”

Worth a read.
I thought it was a bit unfair to Ross. He treats the media with the respect they deserve. "Shane's" first question of the presser after the Freo -Simmonds Stadium final did not relate to the game. And it was a superb game. Why should Ross put up with tripe? And if anyone treated Mark Harvey badly, it was the Fremantle Football Club. St Kilda happily kept Ross on a string. He is a man who is very clear about his values, and has self respect. He doesn't play the " sucking up" game. You can only respect that. And he is smarter than 99% of the media, who influence the AFL way too much.

Rosich from about 2:25. Signalling intent to trade away first round picks and changes to the Assistant Coaching staff. Interesting in the weeks ahead to see whether we do trade agressively and are prepared to risk paying overs which would be a departure from the cautious approach in recent seasons.

Well aren't we in love with the toasters. First 6 pages including front page plus back page. If that's bad enough there's another 6 pages in the middle about their GF against Sydney. We get a two page mention regarding Pav and Macca. Talk about a love fest ,I guess nothing has really ever changed . C'mon Hawkes shove it right up ém .

Fremantle's grunt could never be questioned, but their depth of quality falls away significantly. Their last six players get exposed on the big stage and they aren't good enough for this team to win a premiership. For all his huff and puff Hayden Ballantyne doesn't blow enough houses down. He is too inconsistent to be relied upon. He can't take a turn in the midfield, he can be selfish, he wastes too much time and energy creating spotfires, and as we saw in the first quarter on Friday night, because of his bad boy reputation the umpires won't give him the benefit of the doubt.

Michael Barlow's time is up. He has become crab-like, stopping the forward momentum of his team. His lack of pace sees him repeatedly side-step and backpedal because for him it's the safe option. His kicking lacks sharpness and penetration, highlighted when he squandered two goal kicking opportunities in Friday night's final quarter. Chris Mayne simply doesn't do enough as a permanent forward. Averaging just over a goal a game for the minor premiership team represents a poor return. Next year it's time for Alex Pearce and Matt Taberner to be given opportunities there.

Zac Dawson has been given a golden run under Lyon at both St Kilda and Fremantle, but his time is up. The big full back continually lets his team down with undisciplined free kicks and reports. And in today's game you can't have a player that you actually don't want to touch the ball for fear he will muck up with it. Sadly, that's the case with Zac. It's tough, but Tendai Mzungu and Matt de Boer need to be replaced. They give their all but their fumbles and lack of finish are costly. The clean hands and precise kicking skills of the Hawks exposed their weaknesses. If they are kept, the temptation will be to play them, and that will stifle the creative development of this team.

For once Robert Walls might actually be right about something, I wholeheartedly agree with this. It will be interesting to see if we develop A. Pearce as a forward or defender next year, guess it could all depend on what happens after trade week/drafts. He really hit the nail on the head regarding Barlow, we all love him, but hes better off elsewhere and he could get us a return/draft pick.

Highly disagree on Barlow. He's simply not in his best position.

well he should pass on his wisdom to his son who does work for us as a scout

I just don't understand people saying derogatory things about Barlow. I like the fact he plays within his limitations similar to Priddis.
It happens at the end of every season for some reason. More this year since he was down on form but **** me I just can't bring myself to say a bad word about him.

The ending to the players documentary just about ripped my heart out, I'm coming to terms with the prelim loss and then they send me on the ride of Pavlich missing out again and how just about every captain mentions him deserving one. Pav so humble if he doesn't get it but you can just tell he wants the cup so bad. Please go around one more year Pav, we can do this for you

A thought provoking piece below worthy of a good read I thought.

The next chapter in our history will indeed be fascinating to watch and while this guy reckons it's just getting interesting, we've known that about our Club from the outset. Matty Price (RIP) nailed it on the early years but we've generated plenty of more material there since like the manner in which the current season has played out which would be deserving of another chapter in his book.

That was a fantastic read and gave an insightful perspective into our club. I especially liked how he talked like we had already secured McCarthy and Bennel.

It certainly gives an encouraging perspective. If we land McCarthy and Fyfe plays forward that is a very good foundation down forward.
Add Bennell and bring in Weller, Blakely, Langdon around and carrying the ball and suddenly we have some additional pace and class in the midfield.
Grey, A Pearce and possibly Hughes (a real wildcard in terms of our halfbacks) and the back 6 becomes more dynamic and versatile.
Its an intriguing scenario.

The real doubt for me lies in if Lyon has the imagination and the brass to relegate his preferred cannon fodder to backup positions. The above scenario means demoting Suban, DeBoer, C Pearce, Mzungu, Mayne and possibly Ballantyne and Barlow to reserves. Its bold and daring.

For me I'd be happy to see all those guys out of the team. Mayne particularly has had the goldenest of golden tickets for 2 years and has failed every time when it counts. Ballantyne has some form in big games and is not quite done with yet. Barlow unless you play him around clearances doesn't offer enough but his nous and temperament means he can still offer something. The rest just aren't good enough.

If we line up with Suban, DeBoer, Mayne and co for round 1 next year then that is the definition of insanity - doing the same over and over and expecting a different result.
