Not sure what happened in that 2nd quarter. Missed all of it. But they looked a shadow in the 3rd.
After the early nerves, they just took control with their movement, contested ball winning and marking power. They looked awesome at times.

I picked the Hawks too, but wasn't as confident as you ;-)

I know it sounds biased because we missed out on him, but my god Frawley is a dud.
I remember thinking at the time that there was a Jade Rawlings/Brad Ottens feeling to it.
(Not that whoever we get in the future will be Ottens but more despite having all the reasons why it was technically disappointing to miss Frawley, there was a feeling that it would turn out better.)

Their older players are still their better players. My guess is that, if they don't win the flag, their approach will be to top-up over the trade/FA period as they have consistently done so.
They are all signed-up already so there won't be any retirements.

I foresee a slow slide with attempts to top-up, as per us since 2011.
I don't see them really threatening to win a flag with this team again.

Take a wander over to the Hawks board - they're blaming the umps!
Strange that, even though for the game of their 9 goals 6 of them had a direct involvement from the umpires

Mitchell - can't stand him but have to respect him. Take him out of Hawthorn (and Burgoyne) and they're just an average team.
Those two, plus Gibson, are truly masters of the dark arts of defending.
Always keeping the player they tackled out of the next contest. I wish the umps would call holding the man more often.

Hard to make the next contest when you've got a mitchell knee buried in you
