I'm going to continue down the path of best player for Hawthorn.

Pick 22: Riley Bonner (SA – UTIL)
Height: 191cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 07/03/1997

Bonner is touted as the most accurate (on both sides of the body) and penetrating kick in this years draft pool. Not too dissimilar to my #19 selection Hibberd, Bonner has played his best football across halfback however has potential to become a tall winger in the future. As well as his major strength kicking, Bonner also possess both great aerial ability and cleanliness below his knees. This versatility allows him to match up against both short forwards and talls.

The objective in drafting both Mitchell Hibberd and Riley Bonner is to hopefully... with the right development... to allow one of them to be a Birchall replacement across halfback and the other a prototype tall outside midfielder. Personally I see Hibberd as the more likely type to become a midfielder.

Holy crap!

Did anyone realise Cringle actually had some serious football knowledge?

I just thought he was a one trick pony. You know, like Watson...

:p:D

Jeremias your 'fav' may still be available.

There is a couple still available that I had in consideration.

Unfortunately not as you beat me to him. Would have been delighted to take Hibberd here and would be equally as happy should we call out his name on draft night.

Despite that there does seem to be some quality left at this pick and I think we'd be fairly content should that be the case when the real thing comes around. Not sure which way we'd go here but I do get the feeling SOS will be open to picking for needs here, rather than strictly picking the best player available. My issue is, with our needs so vast....what does that really mean?

There are a few interesting players left here but I'll happily pull the trigger now on Darcy Tucker. Did not have a great year in 2015 hence being available here, but it was not all that long ago that Tucker was considered a likely very high draft pick.

Very much a slider on the back of not showing that improvement this year that so many others tend to and that so many recruiters look for.

Regardless of that stagnation Tucker remains a real talent who is a hard worker and that will hold him in good stead entering a professional AFL environment. Is considered one of the best users of the football in this draft class and obviously the more skilled youngsters we bring through the better. Seems to have some real pace meaning run and carry is a real feature of his game. Offers some flexibility too with him being capable of playing not just behind the ball but also further up the ground through the midfield.

From my limited viewing he does actually remind me a bit of Doc albeit with more pace and ability to break the lines. The question marks will likely be why did he stagnate in 2015 but at this point in the draft it does not concern me too much as it does not seem to have anything to do with attitude.

That's me done for a little while. Would be very content with the club calling out the names Weitering, Weideman, Mathieson and Tucker come draft night...I'll just wait for SOS' phone call now that Paul Brodie is out of the picture for the next year or so.

Love the first two picks J. I'm not yet sold on the last two.

I'm not sure Mathieson will be able to shine in the big leagues with more quality ball winners.

Tucker is a nice talent but not sure he'd be future best 22 with our back flankers and there were a few more pressing needs.

O.K. Was going to pull the trigger on this guy somewhere in the mix but may have to do it.
Why? We've just lost Talia and our KPP defence is a little fragile right now. We have relatively good coverage around the ground and we're going to back our smalls in. May not please many here but from what I've seen of him this year, he's worth the early pick for us.

Bulldogs #24 Mitchell Brown

Ready to go round number 1 and will make us better from the get-go.

This one is hard and wouldn't mind pushing the envelope with a Silvagni bid here, but it's somewhat pointless.

Not particularly a great fan of this guy but the Dogs may like the bounce and vision of this kid as they have with others from last year.
A couple of others in the mix, but we feel we may get one in particular later, so we're going for:

Bulldogs #25 Harley Balic

I didn't see much of him this year but last year he looked to be a gun. Last years form tipping me over.

JB12 you are next. OP is now up to date.

Time will tell but I can't mount too strong an argument either way on such limited viewing.

For mine the first two picks were relatively straight forward and I doubt many would be too disappointed should that be replicated on draft night. Ideally I was looking for a tall then a small but with Weideman considered by many a likely top 5 pick I had to pull the trigger there.

Of course the other two are more speculative but those question marks would have been there regardless of who I picked. Could have gone with any number of combinations there but with such a limited knowledge base all I can do is match what I think we need with what the prospects appear to have.

Mathieson does not have much polish but is a real work horse and reminds me of a young JPK. A real bull at the contest who just gets his hands on the ball first time and time again. Not particularly clean by foot but high skill levels probably aren't as important for an inside contested player than for other types so it is not a huge concern for me. Could form a formidable midfield combination with Cripps in a few years time.

Tucker is an interesting one and as I noted a real slider. Was well and truly in top 5 calculations early on but has slid considerably since then. Excellent skills, great pace, a few tricks to his game....but it just didn't click for him this year. It is obviously important to understand why that happened, and from all reports it is not a lack of effort so for mine it is not as alarming a trend as it may have been had it come about due to a poor attitude. Is a noted hard worker, has leadership capabilities and some nice flexibility so I do see upside there and for mine represents good value in the 20s of a 'shallow' draft.

I feel that Fremantle's weakness is their lack of KPP's - with McPharlin retiring , Pav getting older and missing out on Cam McCarthy. Therefore, Fremantle's first pick in the 2015 draft is:

Fremantle #26 Ben Mckay
Height: 200cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 24/12/1997
Recruited from: Gippsland Power

Twin brother of Harry McKay. Has played back and in the ruck, but has looked good when moved forward

Surprised he's still available but I'll snap up a man that I hope my Blues take in the real thing.

West Coast Pick 27 Jade Gresham

With a turn of pace, a good goal sense and the capacity to pick up plenty of possessions, Gresham has a few important tricks as a smaller midfielder. He was Vic Metro's most consistent player during the carnival and was named in the All Australian team, and he won his team's best and fairest for that six-game patch. The indigenous captain of the Northern Knights is skillful and likes to run down the wing and take a bounce, but is also honing his forward craft over the last couple of weeks in the TAC Cup season.

The perfect addition to an already packed midfield at the Eagles.

He's a GWS academy kid.

Seeing as though Essendon have two picks in a row I'll take Luke Partington with the other.

Yeah....GWS....of course.

Hey bLUE_bALLs Going to match....Can you/Do you want to match Essendons bid for Himmelberg @ #28

Yeah, I'll definitely match that one - not going to get anyone better at 50/53.

GWS get Himmelberg at 28, Essendon with Partington at 29. Revised order attached.

Blugazi, you've got 30 now as well mate.

interesting pick and what bulldogs need. i like him. thought he might of been a good late pick for us as he can play forward or back. as good if not better than henderson but has a big more heart

Pick 29. Essendon - Luke Partington
Height: 182cm, Weight: 75kg
A promising small MID/FWD who got displayed his ball winning capabilities during the champs. Has a good mix of pace, skill and footy IQ that should see his play 150+ games in the red and black.

Pick 30. Essendon - Jesse Glass-McCasker
Height: 198cm, Weight: 95kg
Essendon will use pick 30 to grab a Carlisle replacement in Jesse Glass-McCasker.
