Jonas and Hombsch have made their numbers their own.

Was disappointed when Butcher moved out of 32, thought it suited him.

Think Redden should do a number swap since it worked for Gray and Butcher injury-wise.

I like how we have a bunch of early/short numbers available, and apart from Ryder, our draft additions are coming in with small expectations.

Was out at lunch with the family today and we were talking about which number Ryder should take, which eventually led into a debate about if we should have retired Wanganeen's #4 - god dammit Renouf.

Ryder goes to 30, the Hoon to number 2.

I don't agree with retiring any number. A lot of clubs these days do a hand over after players play their last game where they give their number to a promising young player, I'd rather see that

What number would yoey get? Generally we've gone 40 something with rookies interested to see what he receives

I don't like that idea. Can put way too much pressure on a player; some players can handle it (Wines), others clearly can't.

I think that retiring numbers is a great initiative provided that said player was an out and out star for 10+ years with the one club. Matter of opinion really, semantics.

Let any of the lower players move up if they want and then once everyone on the list is happy with their numbers just go lowest to highest depending on where the new players are drafted. Not that I agree with higher numbered players moving down... Imagine if Chad decided 35 was too high.

I get the passing on of numbers but then you get stuck with ridiculous situations like Petrenko spudding it up in McLeods number... Let a player earn his own story with a number.

Do we know if #35 is staying vacant? I vaguely remember something about the club giving it to a chosen player when they feel the time is right but obviously nothing has eventuated yet.

A lot of us wanted to Wingard to take #4 when recruited but instead he took 20 and made it his. There's pro's and con's for the 'handing a number' argument but it's an individual player choice for me.
In regards to #35 there will come a time it will be handed out again but I'm not sure when that is. Does anyone recall how long after Anthony Williams passed away that the club re-issued #9?

I wont bother doing actual predictions but with 2, 3, 4 and 15 available, i'd expect Ryder to get one of them.

It wouldn't shock me to see Mitchell get a new guernsey number along with his elevated list status.

Other than that i'd expect guys like Moore, Young, Neade and Harvey to be looking to upgrade.

Mitch Harvey in 3 appeals to me. I can't explain why. It would just. Mmmm.

Thinking of a Port Adelaide past player who wore 3? Maybe Randall Gerlach or Stephen Clifford.

Some former Port 3s - Campbell Heath, Steven Salopek, Shane Breuer, Brett Montgomery, Stephen 'Bomber' Clifford, Randall Gerlach, Andrew Obst, Gavin Wanganeen, Chris Dalkin, Gary Smallridge, Trevor Obst, Fabian Francis

Agreed... Although I'd expect Amon to get one of those also.
