Okay, got an interesting one, as it's not a player vs player per se.

In my Draft league of 10, I managed to draw Pick 3.

That guarantees me one of Ablett, Rockliff, Pendlebury or Fyfe. Nice captain material.

But it also means my next pick isn't until 18.

I really want Robbie Gray - high quality forwards are obviously harder to get than high quality midfielders. Picking him at 3 is a reach - so I'm considering trading down for Pick 6. He won't be there at Pick 18.

That would give me Pick 6 + Pick 15.

So... Pick 6 + Pick 15 (then 26, 35...)

Or Pick 3 + Pick 18 (then 23, 38...)

I just can't decide. Obviously Ablett / Rockliff / Pendlebury / Fyfe straight up against Gray isn't going to go in Gray's favour (although I believe he'll up his output this year), but taking positions into account and upgrading my second pick...
Would keep pick 3, as you said past the top 3 or 4 players you lose a bona fide captain choice. There are alot of decent forward choices this season, ending up with Gray isn't necessarily a bad thing as at 18 more than one of a Deledio, Franklin, Goddard, Bartel, Martin, Swan, Westhoff et al. will still be available.

In fantasy competitions for other sports your strategy of trading down would be sound. But in SC you have to take into account double points for captain, so take the number 3 pick, select the best available, and run all the way to the bank. FWIW I would have Fyfe last of the 4 you mentioned, purely due to durability/availability. Don't be afraid to take multiple gun ruckman if available too. Force others to trade with you in order to get their hands on them. Hard to have firm strategies in a draft though, need to be light on your feet, adapt and think fast. I love draft leagues, haven't done one in many a year.

Just want a second opinion:

Heater v Gibson v Birchall

Shephard v Pittard

Wines v Griffen

Shaw - one of few defenders who can ave 100+
Pittard - if forced to choose
Griffen - only because he has history v breakout potential of Wines

Now for mine?

Shaw v Houli (+ 50k)

Yeah, the captain's double is what makes it really hard to trade away from, although even that is far from a certainty - Rockliff's numbers could go down with Beams coming into the fold (or they could increase - hard to say). I just know I'll be kicking myself if Gray goes up to 120, which I think he is very capable of doing.

Perhaps trading into Gray might be a goal then?

Interesting,

2014
Shaw - 1667 pts - 18 games
Houli - 1831 pts - 22 games

Bews - 38 pt ave in 2014 (who else did we have on the bench last year to cover Shaw's outs? NBrown this year?)

Shaw + Bews = 1667 + 4*38 = 1819

Then, $50k / $5,375 (~magic number) = 9 SC pts extra you should be able to 'buy' with the extra funds.

22 rounds x 9 SC pts = 198 total sc pts

-

So, for 2014;

Shaw & Bews = 1,819

vs.

Houli + 50k = 2,029

-

Possibly, for 2015;

Shaw & NBrown = (18^ x 97.7*) + (4 x 50) = 1,759 +200 = 1,959

vs.

Houli + 50k = (22 x 84.7*) + 198 = 2,061

-

Food for thought, :confused:

^ seems to be BF consensus of what Shaw will play this year.

Fair point. It's those sorts of moves that will set you apart from the pack I guess. I'd never realised Houli was that good a scorer, I've (unfairly by the looks of things) never rated him highly as a footballer

rank Wines, Griffen, Prestia
and reasoning?
Prestia, Wines, Griffin
Prestia most likely to go biggest, Griffin I can't see playing 22 games. However, Pestia has the worst bye round, so depending on how many others you have with the round 12 bye I'd go Wines

Wines -> Griffen -> Prestia
I like a good basil, rosemary and garlic rub on my roast chicken. Delicious!

Oh, you said REASONING, not seasoning. Is it lunchtime yet?
All 3 would be good selections, hard to go wrong with either. I lean towards Wines due to his potential, and that he is playing in a top 4 side. Griffen has proven he can be a 110-115 scorer, and I'm probably underrating Prestia due to seeing him less.

Birchall
Pittard without a shadow of a doubt
hmmmmmm, ummmm, Wines, just.

and reasoning?
Reckon providing a reason for a choice between two or more players should be required, a thread with nothing more than a player's name for almost every reply is kind of stupid, people obviously have a reason to choose someone over someone else, why not articulate it?
