i don't think you know what your talking about mate for starters ipswich lacking afl sized venues? the Eagles have arguably the biggest footy ground in southern qld and the lights are the best in south east qld (apart from the gabba) hence why the brisbane heat played a practice 20/20 night game there early in the summer season, also you want the clubs to work together its a bit hard when a certain junior club I'm naming the cats here have been offered help from the eagles to help find numbers ect. for their under 19's then the cats end their 19's to try and start a senior team then contact a huge amount of players from the eagles and springfield lakes to play for them and offering to let them play without paying any fees, you ask any person in the ipswich afl circles and most will agree the cats have one agenda and that is too kill off the other clubs in the ipswich region and to make themselves a future power house they already have taken a number of eagles and springfield lake players(just check the clearance forms on aflq website)

One oval in the whole of Ipswich makes me not know what Im talking about ? I actually met with the local councillor the toher day and he stated that council has no plans for any AFL ovals only dual usage grounds. They will only build grounds to share with other winter sports. So they will draw two soccer pitches or hockey pitches on the AFL oval. So yes I remain convinced this council does not know what is required for a successful long term club. AFL needs access to the ground every day. Sunday for youth games, Monday-Thurday for Juniors/Youth/Seniors Friday night games, Saturday for Juniors games. Tried to explain this to councillor and finally got his acceptance that they need to allow an AFL club sole rights during winter. But not going to happen till council changes its policy of building grounds to suit cricket for summer and two soccer fields in winter, sharing with AFL club on occasional days.

Again a call to work together means forgetting the past. The Eagles advertised at Storms Home Training ground for players. Past Storm Assistant Coach rang Powers players. No one is innocent. but till we move on and make AFL the focus all of the clubs, then AFL will come of second best to the other codes.

Id like to see a pre season cup for the local clubs. Not just seniors but also youth and even juniors, build something to make history for the area with positive environments. Have family days where clubs meet at each others ground and enjoy a day out. Watching a number of games different ages.

All the local clubs need to work together with council to get them behind building facilities for all the clubs. Not just be content that a few clubs have facilities. We need more clubs as this city grows. Down at Ripley would be next focus in a few years time.

Anyway enough of my soapbox time and living in dream land.

On with the season and may the best teams win often!

Looking at the transfer list for where Storm players went
2 to Collingwood Park. one of whom is brand new to footy.
1 to Cooparoo (going home to original club)
5 to Cats (4 young ones one pretty good player)
3 to Kenmore (again going home to original club)
1 to Noosa
1 to Robina (one of the Storms best fillins)
1 to Magpies ( good player too)
2 to Yeronga (Storms best and fairest, of course doesn't mean a thing possibly when going from DIV4 in a club falling apart )

Still 14 to decide if they playing
7 others definitely not playing again

your dead set drop kick raz66, the ipswich council do not need to build an afl ground just for that sole purpose the eagles now share lime stone park with the centrals cricket club and have a excellent relationship in place as a matter of they both clubs just recently had a friendly game of cricket and the eagles watched the centrals play in the finals and actually the cricket club put a tab on for the eagles players that went to watch, for access to the ground the there is no issue at all the eagles can have access to it everyday of the week if they put in for it in the footy season thats why they pay money for the lights and clubhouse access ext also they do all their pre season there as well with the cricket clubs blessing so dickhead access is not a problem and i dare say the cats would have very similar access to their new ground who they share with another cricket club, my sources tell me that aflq are right behind the eagles and are doing all they can get them in the right direction, a new club at ripely you are brain dead buddy have you ever been there no afl club would get off the ground there and survive, springfield lakes couldn't do it and they are the fastest growing suburb in south east queensland how long did they last 2 years?

says a lot for the people who was in charge QAFL_Fan dosnt it, i let you know now springfield lakes would of started the season on -16 points as they owed the league club fees, the rules say that every month your behind in league fees you are docked 4 points so who in their right mind play for a club that was that far behind to start with with no chance of making that up

I'll throw some tips in as well.

Woodsmen
Zillmere
Ipswich
Sandgate
UQ
Ipswich Cats
Jimboomba
holy shit Pea Nut you must have some good spies both ipswich teams to win i very much doubt that but I'm predicting the cats lose by at least 50 and the eagles and collingwood park may go down to the wire in a close one, to close to call i think but you maybe right mate

What does it matter? 0 points or -16 points. Weren't going to win a game anyway

Just noticed that UQ are playing all their home games at Moorooka on Friday nights this year. I wonder if that means QAFL_Fan will be UQ's biggest fan this year, with that being the local Friday night game for him ??? UQ will no doubt be good this year, so how about some inside info mate ???

Thats great news, and they probably will become my local side as a result.

thanks for the heads up!

Does this mean the Woodsmen are playing at the Magpies, or somewhere else? I went past the Magpies ground last week, and the lights still didn't look all that great

Can't a retired old man like you work out how to see the draw ??? The draw is now posted on the AFLQ website also, for anyone wondering. Yeah Woodsmen playing at Chelmer. Not sure if and when the lights are being upgraded. Hopefully it gets sorted in time for their sake.

Lights should be complete by end of April, thats why we requested 3 away games to start the year.

Good luck in Round 1 to everyone, hopefully its another good year. Welcome to the new entrants to the comp, hope you enjoy it as much as everyone else has over the years.

Sadly I miss Round 1 vs the Devils, one of our club stalwarts stupidly planned his wedding for this weekend so me and a few boys are off to Byron Bay instead.

Ferny Grove defeated Ipswich Cats 7-20-62 - 2-5-19. I think shots on goal will be on the cards at training this week

Do teams honestly have a game plan in this division?

Well based on what I saw last night at Yeronga, from Yeronga, in Round 1 of the season, what you do is START THE GAME with 2 loose men in defence. Then when you find yourself down by 6 goals with any of your forward entries bouncing straight back out and the opposition getting the ball in their forward 50 at will is.......

You leave them there!!! Because that's working so well for you isn't it? Saw the Woodsmen coach's raise a quizzical eyebrow when he saw that. Honestly, you're going into Round 1 of the season already conceding that you are going to limit the damage. It's the first game of the season FFS. And the coach obviously has no confidence in his players to let them take the Woodsmen on and change the game plan as needed.

Woodsmen by 8 or so goals. Scrappy affair, Woodsmen missing about 6 or 7 from the GF side with all of them to come back in the next week or 2. Got some handy new players to. If they stay healthy, get fitter, and these new players keep improving, they'll be thereabouts again.

Definitely not Yeronga's year.... they wont make finals. If that coaching move is what they're going to dish up each week, it will be a long year. And by the looks of things (unless their seniors have a crap year and they do what they do normally), they have no depth.

I've never seen playing extra defenders work well for teams. Any kick out of the defensive 50 almost always goes to the opposition.

Watched zillmere and mayne and I'm pretty sure mayne will struggle to win a game. They tried hard but no way could get the ball moving. Going to be a long year for them. Zillmere had a field day.

Nothing wrong with playing with a plus one if they are prepared to switch and run of the line. A plus two just says you are not prepared to back your players to win the footy.

Considering the coach saw Woodsmen play last year a good judgment call was made.

Or would you prefer to play into their hands and let these guys that should be playing in the grades that suit their abilities have it easy like they do most weeks? Unfortunately the Devils guys are either first timers (if it are any good quickly are punted up to ressies), bottom of the rung on skill level/fitness or like most of the woodsmen cant play the weekends, again unfortunately these players for the Devils are not past first division players.

So you'd just match up man on man in this scenario? Great idea champ, grab the whiteboard and get coaching!!! Straight to AFL level for you.

Lets face the facts, the comp is what it is and the Woodsmen are here for a reason, but most matches are not even contests. The opposition just have to cop that on the chin and deal with it. If it means pushing numbers back then that's a great call especially given Yeronga are 3 team club. They don't tend to have a lot of former top division players running around most Friday nights.

For the lesser teams it may not be a bad idea to push up to 4 players back. The reality is the ball will be in the defensive 50 more often than not so why not give all players exposure to the pill. You still wont win the match but the players may be able to hang their hat on being able to make the opposition work harder for their goals.

As you say, there are still a significant portion of the side to come back and as the season progresses the match fitness and knack will return. It's simply not a level playing field for genuine 3rd grade teams. We all know if there was any grading system Woodsmen after last years performance would not be playing in this comp. That's life, no reason why these guys shouldn't be able to play in a lower division, it's a free world, totally their choice.

The Devils seniors stay right there, in the seniors and if injured come back through the reserves. That has always been the case and always will. Proofs in the pudding, hasn't been a lot of silverware in the 3rd's cabinet since inception. Not enough piss sank either, hopefully this year that can be remedied.

was this not last year?

http://www.sportingpulse.com/round_...24203566&c=1-109-36638-299468-20508540&pool=0

but you are right about the set up of the competition and clubs like Yeronga will always be disadvantaged over teams like woodsman

Zilllmere were very very handy Long, Agosta, JAson Duce, Dickfos, Matty Smith, Benny Drew and I saw Matty Waters in the crowd as well so no doubt he'll get on board plus some pretty handy kids with pace...They will be hard to stop for teams that lack skills and blow out scores will eventuate...definitely in the top 4 if that's what they roll out with every week...I think Mayne will struggle against the top tier sides being a genuine 3rds side but looking at the scores I think this comp will definitely have two tiers and the bottom half of the ladder will be competitive with each other...The positive barring 3or4 guys most of Mayne's team is under 21 so they are keen as and will improve as they play together more...

We've won 2 Premierships and played in 3 grand finals in 6 completed seasons and its apparently an unfair playing field?

We had 8 first gamers last night, including 5 completely new to the game.

Hardly the harlem globetrotters ffs.

Zillmere dished us up 3×100 point beltings in 2013, the wheel turns!
