Bit of a cliche there lucky... Of course 22 blokes get the job done:rolleyes: But often what matters is what is going on in those 22 blokes heads, how hey respond to pressure and whether the moment gets the better of them. Simplistic to think otherwise. Morningside somehow find a way to play well when it matters, some sides don't but are very good H&A teams.
Pretty ungracious too to lakey. He has been unreal for qld football over the past decade and more and always been a model to how things should be done as a coach. His playing career was just as good mind you. No doubt rubbed a few people the wrong way but that happens when you coach for long enough as well.

Congrats to both teams, great to see a new side win it and for the panthers to make it such a game coming from the elimination is credit to their whole club. Great way to finish the year for the comp.

Great Effort from both teams. Was truly a very good game played under extreme pressure for most of the day and certainly the Morningside boys can consider themselves unlucky, 7 points in the last quarter really tolled in the end.

Obviously winning both grades shows the extent of the depth at Labrador this year and based on the minimal player losses expected plus the influx of new players the future looks very bright. As we know SJ has indicated he won,t coach next year but I am sure the club will find a quality replacement to continue the high standards and winning culture that he and Football Manager Jarrod Fields have brought to the club over the last 2 years.

Great to see the little master Todd Featherstone go out after such a stellar career. Kick the clutch goal and win the flag he could not have wished for any more. Without a doubt Labrador are the new benchmark for STATE LEAGUE

Is a good comp right now the QAFL as it seems there is a mix of 4-5 sides that can win it, maybe more depending on what happens over the preseason. Reckon the 3 NEAFL clubs have found their level and this has enabled this comp to flourish. Is an excellent club based comp.
Are there any plans for small changes in the near future? A promotion/relegation system from the Nth/Sth conferences?
TBH reckon if the AFLQ combined the best 4-5 teams from the nth/sth comp to create a 8-10 team QAFL Div 2 and then the premier went up, the wooden spooner from QAFL down, then this would be good for footy here.

Not sure Lensen - there would be 3 teams in just the nth conference (not sure re sth conference but would imagine a similar number) that are spending more than at least 3 QAFL clubs right now on players and it isn't necessarily about $$ either, it is about the capacity to generate good footballers from within sometimes. I think you will find that the jump from conference to QAFL is lot smaller than the jump from QAFA to conference. Anyway food for thought bc clubs that are consistently holding up the bottom of the ladder in QAFL footy won't want to stay there for ever...

2 years of re jigging and familar patterns are emerging. The geographical push has failed and should be scrapped. How stoked are the Nambour boys at having less travel time to get thumped every week? Give them another year of thrashings and maybe you'll see them in Div4 Nth the following season.
Bet Coolangatta are thrilled to head 10 mins up the road to get pasted by Burleigh. 3rd time lucky? Don't think so, would be really peeved to see it stay as is.

There are some strong clubs playing solid footy week in week out. These are mixed in with clubs that may put up a fight to start the season but have finished both years without so much as a whimper just isn't good for the competition. Make it a fair fight.

I say put in another 2 divisions with year by year performance changes in the lower competitions, especially from Div3 down but even allow that flexibility in Div2.

Most QAFL teams have established full functioning "clubs" such as Sandgate and may have a lot more resources available to rebuild therefore should stay in the top tier

Yeah agree SN - Moreton Bay have the capacity to really improve and think Div 2 would be suitable for them as well (making a 10 team comp as well). A little birdie told me they made $25K on GF day alone! Not sure how accurate this is, sounds like revenue to me, but if true, this is good coin!
There is always the arguement over geography vs ability but I think that under Div 2 it could be made geographical to a point.

Conf 1
Robina
Cooly
Bond
Carrara
SES
Coomera
Beenleigh
Park ridge

Conf 2
Namb
Aspley
Pine Rivers
Redcliffe
GM
Wynnum

Ipswich in either - probably is neither here nor there. Excuse the geography is I have mucked up some clubs but you get the drift.

way too big a financial jump between the conferences and the QAFL for that smy

All clubs need the opportunity to

Agree SMY1305 the gap is not that wide between the top QFA and QAFL clubs. A promotion relegation system would be the best option for a strong competition in all Divisions and incentive to get better.

What a classic grand final .... geez morningside should of closed the door in the first 10 minutes of the final quarter..with numerous inside 50s but just kicked points . They kicked 2.7 for the quarter. Then labrador gained 2 inside 50s for 2 goals ... that broke the panthers..... just a great contest ... panther ruckman be it mollinson was bog imo. Great crowd as well... predict about 2500 . Maybe a tad more ..
How did Matthew Lappin play?

Which is where I was going thommo. Wouldn't be saying anyone in nth conf could compete with top 5 sides in qafl with current lists. I know only preseason practise match but Labrador absolutely destroyed noosa in game back the. After having trained for 2 hrs prior to game!

Noosa premiers 2011 and prelim finalists the year after. Sorta freaky to think they now can't compete with their fellow finalists from those years.

Except Labrador, morningside etc were QAFL teams. Noosa was always the div below these guys. Think the ex PHC teams like sandgate, surfers, PBC would be a pretty even game with the top 3 nth conf teams plusofcourse university.

Mayne beat UQ in the pre season comp, I think the 3 QAFL sides mentioned would struggle against the top 3 QFA sides, they are propped up by NEAFL players.

Three Elite players , Dezario how tight? Explain the voting system if you need to , there are so many variables.

Pretty sure it was 3 sets of votes, maximum 15 votes given ( this system rewards consistency, same system Cressa bought to the club)

Also heard that Woolley and Derrick have signed up for next season already which is great for the club. Just need to lock in Bryant now

Sandgate propped up by Aspley? 2 Aspley listed players (both former Sandgate players) played a total of 10 games between them...The flip side is 10 Sandgate juniors represented Aspley at NEAFL level. Who's propping who up?
