I actually think that Parker and Treloar have every chance of being top 8 mids and if not the difference between 8th and 15th will be very minimal.

Both are great fantasy players.

Yep can't go wrong with either...if you really struggling to pick either of them go with whoever fits your bye structure, which for most people would mean Treloar as Parker shares bye with GC (Ablett), Coll (sidey, pendles), Freo (Fyfe, Barlow) etc.

Changed my midfield around a bit

INS: Lewis, Steven, Griffen
OUTS: Parker, Treloar, Neale

Lewis an upgrade on Parker
Steven although cheaper than Treloar is still a big points scorer and arguably the best midfielder at St. Kilda
Been sucked in by Griffen's NAB Challenge scores. His back issues make him a risk but it's a risk I need to take for more points.

This is my side at the moment barring any selections crises' with rookies. There seems to be a good crop of both Mid Pricers and Rookies this year so I tried to load up on both.

DEFENCE
L. Hodge | J. Newnes | K. Kolodjashnij [B. Smedts]
B. Sheppard | G. Ibbotson | B. Goodes [J. Hamling]

MIDFIELD
T. Lockcliff | S. Pendlebury | D. Beams | A. Treloar [C. Ellis-Yolmen]
L. Neale | D. Rich | B. Newton | P. Cripps [A. Vandenberg]

RUCK
N. Naitanui [S. McKernan]
M. Leunberger [M. Cox]

FORWARDS
B. Deledio | D. Swan | T. Mitchell [M. Honeychurch]
T. Menzel | C. Salem | M. Clarke [K. Lambert]

My issues i'm still tossing up with are as follows
  • Is Kalphabet worth the risk, he is priced fairly highly. I'm not sure if he can explode like everyone here hopes
  • D. Beams, how will he go at Brisbane? Can he get back to one of the top 3 or 4 mids like he was a couple of years ago, is there anyone else with more upside in his price range?
  • Berger, will he be fit and ready? If not it could drastically change my side
  • Deledio, out of Deledio, Goddard, Martin and Gray who do i go? I've been burnt by Deledio before but he does have the history of averaging consistent high scores. But Martin might be the way to go. Goddard is an unknown quantity as it is hard to see how the bans will effect him. Will he get more or less points playing in a team of VFL players
  • Is the Menz worth the punt? I could donwgrade him to a Jesse Hogan type and use the cash to upgrade Luey, or Titchell if the time comes but at this moment I just feel Menz will explode

HAHA, i did the same in's last night with slightly differnt outs!!

Who are you predicting to be top 8 mids?

You can throw a blanket on a lot of mids this year for the top 8. For example if you had Selwood M9 over Heppell M8 last year the 0.4 points per game are not going to kill you. Or for example JPK M11 over Heppell M8...... The minor differences will add up to between 10 and 50 points which is not much. Which you could make on other positions, the bye rounds, injuries, etc...

What to look for is players who dont get tagged. For example Boak I think is an amazing player but I can not see him in my team as for every 120 you will get a 70.... For me he will stay around his same average.

It is good to have in your mind who they are going to be (Ideally you want only the top 8) but some more important questions at the start of the season::

- Who are going to Improve to get in the list (or just outside)?
In my opinion Parker & Fyfe are going to push their averages up to ~108/110. Therefore, they will average as much as Pendles & Barlow for example and will give my an extra 77K to play with. So I have them at M3 & M4. I am taking a gamble picking 2 players (but the saving gets me Rocky, or a good way there), But trusting your gut to save a bit of money could pay off!!

- Who are the real Pigs
These are the guys that you will drain points not having as they will always have your C. This year I only see Rocky & Lewis in that category (Ablett is injured).

Someone like Pendles/Barlow you are paying for consistency. They are at that price point and you always expect there output to remain constant.

Thoughts on my team

My biggest thoughts is you're banking on a lot in the midfield, forward line and ruckman are very similar to mine. Besides Boak and Parker, they're probably going to be the only ones left in your team come the end of the season. Banking on Rich and Sheed you're risking a lot with two mid priced mids.

Sorry for the crappy prtsc

But here is my final team.
Don't know about Freeman, one game in the NAB. Not too promising for a rookie. Whitecross no games in NAB cup, Goddard didn't look promising and looks to raw to be playing for even St.Kilda yet.

Quality post. Spot on for the most part.

Still a few questions marks over this team but what i've got at the moment -

Defence -
Lumumba - Kolodjashnij - Mayes ( Saad )
Sheppard - Ibbotson - Goodes ( Hamling )

Midfield -
Rockliff - Pendlebury - J.Selwood - Griffen ( Vanderberg )
S.Selwood - Rich - Sheed - Cripps ( Ellis-Yolmen )

Ruck -
Z.Smith ( Griffin )
Leuenberger ( Holmes)

Forward -
Martin - Goddard - Swan ( Salem )
Mitchell - Bontempelli - Clark ( Lambert )

25k in the bank.

"Channel Seven reporter Mark Stevens has tweeted that Gary Ablett WILL be fit to face the Demons in Round One."

THE GOD IS PLAYING!

I bet half the DTers will select him, and he will be a late out. 600K+ frozen in week one.

So i decided there was no point putting my side up during the NAB Cup as all I do is chop and change but here is my post NAB Cup team.

Defenders:

backline2.png

If you had of asked me at the start of the season if Newens was going to be my most expensive defender I would have had a grand old laugh but in all honesty I think I'd have him in my team over any other defender regardless of price, he's really looking like he's going to have a massive break out year, there's a reason why everyone has him. I only just put Heath Shaw in my team today, He used to be a regular in my team for a couple of season but he just fell apart a little bit, I feel he's in his best spot psychologically and physically in years and is all settled in now at GWS. I don't see why he cannot get back to averaging 90+ this season, was good in the NAB Cup. I could basically say the exact same thing for Lumumba as I just wrote for Shaw, in a good state, will have a bigger role and should pump out some regular good numbers, lock him in.

Now this is where my side gets a little bit tougher, In all honesty I'm not overly sold on Sheppard, would have the biggest question mark in my side just about, the problem is I don't have the cash to turn him into a premo and there's not a lot of potential cash cows who can warrant taking up a spot on my field down there. Probably the best option at that price range and whilst I can't see him ripping up the ton every week he is guaranteed games every week and should just about guarantee a 70/75 most weeks. Kolodjashnij is basically on the same boat as Sheppard a lot more up upside although bit less consistency, I normally worry about second season syndrome but I think he'll be fine, he's in a young team and should only get a bigger role, will be/is a popular pick. Geary has never been renown as a good fantasy player but because he missed so much footy last year he's a really good price and it's quite hard to not pick up. Had a really good NAB Cup, someone who will play every week, low risk and will get you some cash.

Now for the rooks, gave me a few head aches this season at 192k Goodes is a little bit more than what i'd normally like to have on a bench player but had a really good finish to the NAB Cup, looks like he's back in the Doggies best 22 and is quite better than any other option I know he wasn't promoted but because Libba is on the LTI he still can. Saad had a really good pre season too and after he got promoted today you can lock him on in!

Midfielders:

mids.png

The favorite position for everyone's team, the midfield. Every team needs there star man. I haven't got Rocky I just think he's a crazy price and will have Beamsy steal some of his limelight, I'll still get him I just plan on letting him drop in price a little bit first so I've gone with Ablett, I really don't care whether he played in the NAB Cup or not, as long as his fit for round one you can lock Garry in. Next in line is Mr Jordan Lewis had a super season last year, really hitting his peak. If his NAB Cup is anything to go by (especially the Saints game) he's going to have an even bigger season! Another one you can lock and load is Pendlebury no intro needed really, it's a fantasic feeling when you can have a man that good in your team and have him as your third midfield premo.

To me I've always classed a proper true premo as a player over 500k, points wise I know i've got a player who should average over a ton in Griffen, at a new club, fresh start with a clean slate. In 2013 he averaged 106 and 97 & 98 per game the two seasons before that, he does have it in him and he's done it before, I'm a little worried about getting tagged but nothing he hasn't dealt with before. Neale is the other "cheaper premo" if you will, played really well later on in the season last year and has continued that form through the NAB Cup at that price it was hard to not get on board, a good start to the season and i'll be able to flip him into a top premo, at least that's the plan. Rich is the other one who i feel is really under priced, didn't preform quite as well as i had of hoped during the NAB Cup which has given me something to think about, even then he's still going to make me some decent coin. It will probaly come down to either him or Pearce just not sure right now but because Pearce will probably play as a tagger I'm going with Rich... for now.

Now for the rooks like always it's really just a matter of getting the right bloke on the field on the right week, I think I'm going to start with Newton and Cripps on the pitch at this stage both should get to spend of lot of time on the ball and shown a lot of promise to rack up the points in the NAB Cup. Ellis-Yolmen (deserves a spot on the team just because of that surname) was just as good and the same can be said for Vandenberg. I feel the four of them have the best playing security a long with ability to score points.

Rucks:

rucks.png

I've gone for the two mid rangers in Bellchambers and Leuenberger, In all honesty I'd be really happy if the two of them could average me 85 points a game, make me a bit of coin and then hopefully upgrade them at the appropriate time. There is risks involved in both but at their prices they're allowing me to save some much needed money for other positions I'm happy to take the risk. If Bellchambers gets a suspension next week for the whole drug saga, I really don't know what I'll do. Leuey better not get injured either.

For the bench I wanted two of Griffin, Naismith or Phillips but I've only got 11k left in the kitty, I've gone with Griffin and Nankervis on the bench right now. Griffin may change to Phillips depending if one of them gets names round one. In all honesty i've got poor old Namkervis there because I couldn't afford Naismith but Nakervis still did get some NAB Cup game time so it's not like he's no chance of getting any games.

Forwards:

fwds.png

So I have finally gone with the traditional guns n' rooks if you will. I feel you could say the the same for all Gray, Martin and Bartel. All three had solid years last year and have been good in the NAB Cup, you know what you're going to get and they've all justified there price tags and will hopefully preform to those levels now that I've hyped them up. Bontempelli is probably a mid ranger between the guns and the rooks, a bit like Kolo worried me of being a second year player but with the big roll he'll play that shouldn't be a problem but if he plays like he did against the Pies he may even be at risk of a tag but with his upside you can lock him in. Salem and Clark both looked quite promising when i first seen their scores so all it needed was a good NAB Cup and I was going to give them both a spot, both did just that. Worked there way into the team and played really well.

Patton, is a safe pick on the bench there, will play every week and generate some cash, although as long as Honeychurch is named for round one I'll probably swap the two. I've had Lambert in there since day one, was pretty good in the NAB Cup, got promoted too which was really good. Worries me a little about getting the vest but I'll take this risk.

Would absolutely love to hear some thougts, opinion and feedback on my team, thanks! :)

nice post Tradespert good job

i think you have a very high risk team...
risks i see are -
Ablett has to be a question mark - no pre-season games, coming off a big injury - he looks as vulnerable as ever to me.
your rucks are from the bargain bin and that in itself carries significant risk but the reward may come from it.
you have Kolo & Bont which are going to be susceptible to the 2nd yr blues.
Griffen has had one good year and comes with back injury risk.
Tom Boyd higher start price/with low stats so far - can he flick the switch on the stat output?
what role does Neale play once Barlow returns?
is Daniel Rich a good cash cow coming off injury.
now the biggest risk i see is, what happens if Rockliff goes nuts?

if all play in your favour then bingo... but what are the chances of that?

"I think he'll be right for round one at this stage," Rischitelli said. Very definite from the coach, the player in question Ablett and the club!!!

I am not picking him because of the risk, but I reckon a lot of people are going to. Could be a master stroke or like I say could backfire. We will have to wait for the end of the suns game to find out.

Still sort of promising signs, i believe he will start now and if he is starting then there shouldn't be any doubt over his shoulder as they wouldn't risk him if he wasn't 100% right.

Vsing Melb, Saints, Geelong and GWS in the first 4 rounds, he could really go BANG and those who don't pick him will suffer.

Then again could work the other way and they could ease him into the game, give him limited game time or play him 80% forward.....but even with that Ablett will still manage 100+ like he always does.

Is the risk worth it?

EDIT:

"
But Rischitelli said Ablett had trained strongly in the past few weeks and given every indication he would time his run to perfection.

"Coming up to game one, all the training he needs to get done is pretty crucial, so that's why I'm here," he said.

"He's done everything. He's done a few 'praccy' (intraclub) matches, his shoulder has been coping well with it.

"The club's happy with where he's at and he's happy with where he's at."

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!
