Round 1 is still like 8 weeks away. No one knows anything about "don't expect him to line up round 1"

8 weeks people.. that's time for people to come back from hamstrings and have played 4 games.

Unless they're injured now. There is a good chance they'll be fit for round 1. Selected is a different issue. But fit surely
What i should have said is 'It is quite unlikely all of those will be ready and playing for round 1 when you take into account there past and current PS.

Just had a quick play around with the first version of my team. Obviously it'll change heaps in the coming weeks but I'm reasonably pleased with it. I tried to include a couple of slightly left field selections. Any feedback is appreciated :thumbsu:

First go, not sure on all my rookies(63k left to change a few around) but am pretty happy with this ? would love to know your guys thoughts :)

In the backline, personally I wouldn't go Kade. I want to see pre-season if Malceski affects his output. I like the Docherty selection.

In the mids you are relying on a lot of young players (titchel, dunstan, caddy & wines). It could be a good move, but I would prefer personally maybe 2 of them, upgrade one, start cripps and get another rookie.

Morabito didn't show anything in the AFL to say he will be best 22.

A.Phillips on the pine??? Dont get it. wasting cash on a player that wont play.

Forward line I personally wouldn't choose Boyd, a young KPP in a team that lost a lot of experience over the off season. I think there are better available (like Membrey) and it would save you some coin.

Good looking team though.

Def: Hibberd,B. Smith, Newnes, Mayes, Waters, Rohan, (Jones, Barass)
Mids: Gablett, Treloar, Liberatore, Wines, Adams, Toumpas, Rich, Freeman (Dick, Jansen)
Rucks: Kreuzer, Luey (Griffin, Cox)
Forwards: Swan, Titch, Lids, Bontempelli, Martin, Hogan (Membrey, Krakour)

cash left: $117,000

Gone deeper in back due to lack of options
Mids are a mix of young premo and break out
Rucks not set on, may upgrade one of them to NicNat
Forwards are probably weakest area but a fair bit of upside in Bonts, Martin and to some extent Titch.

Asides from 'risky' any feedback?

Version 2:
Def: Hibberd,B. Smith, Newnes, Mayes, Waters, z jones, (Jones, Barass)
Mids: Gablett, Treloar, Sloane, Wines, Rich, Acres, Cripps , Freeman (Dick, Krakouer)
Rucks: Kreuzer, NicNat (Griffin, Cox)
Forwards: Swan, Titch, Dusty, A Christensen, Bontempelli, Martin (Membrey, Hogan)

144k left

Obviously rooks will be sorted after nab.
With Hanley out for a while, Mayes is a lock.
Unsure about forwards, may funnel some money into mids from there.

Bolded are the ones I believe could be better selected due to a range of reasons eg age, historical scoring etc

Def: O'Shae and Gardiner are big risks imo. JS and inconsistent
Mid:Hodge may have a down year. No reason, just a feel. Brayshaw not sold on. Yet
Ruck: Cordy injured IIRC
Fwd: N Roo could be a good unique. Clark and Reid could be problematic due to injury issues.

My first go at this, local club is starting up a league and I'd love to give them a surprise aha (although I've only got 7,000 left)

More than willing to critique others if they'd like!

Is... Interesting
Def: You have Lake, Davis and Gibson in the back. They are either rebounding or stopping backs. Look for players who are more rebounding/midfield rotating. Could work but in for a rollercoaster ride.

MIDs: Boomer, can get tagged out of games, suspended and is ageing. Also a forward option and better MIDs out there. Bontempelli is far better option as a mid priced forward. Need to do some more research on MIDs overall as seems a bit risky with very few lock and load gun eg Ablett, Pendles, Fyfe etc

Rucks:
Having Kruezer on bench is a waste. Any two of NicNat, Luey or Kruezer should suffice and give you more money to spend on MIDs if you downgrade one to a potential starter

Forwards:
Roughead could be a very good, unique selection, unsure. Wingard and Boyd are/were injured and have had a delayed start which would effect their output. Clarke is a ruck/tall forward and behind Sandilands. Good selection if Sandi gets injured.

All in all, can see you being unique across the positions. However some of the selections are a bit too out there. Check out dreamteamtalk.com and a few other teams on rate to get a better idea of whom is the 'it' guy in each position.

Ok here we go. Some feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Back:
Hibberd, B.Smith, Newnes, Seedsman, Waters, H.Goddard (Newman, Dick)

Mid:
Ablett, Sidebottom, Sloane, Fyfe, Rich, Van Berlo, Newton, Freeman (Cripps, Vandenberg)

Rucks: Luenberger, Kruezer (J.Griffen, King)

Forward:
Martin, Goddard, Franklin, Swan, Bontempelli, M.Clark (McBean, Garner)

$5000 to spare and obviously rookies are subject to change during NAB cup and round one selection

Nice even team with all the usual suspects. Looks very similar to mine but I have Trealoar over Green. Personally Im not sold on Bontempelli just yet, he definately has potential but I think he wont start firing(and hopefully dropping large numbers) until mid-late season. Ibbotson could be a really good pick up as Fremantle will presumably focus on their attack this year, meaning Ibbo might rack up the numbers as Fremantle rebound up the ground. Not to sure about Seedsman as I heard he might be injured or have a delayed preseason so it could be worth tracking his NAB cup progress.

My team...

Alright, a good first effort, but it needs a bit of work, IMO. Here's a bit of friendly advice, take it or leave it. :)

1. Too many Blues in the backline. Think of the byes.
2. Too many midpricers (200k - 400k roughly).
3. Too many KPP's. Jamieson, Rowe and Merrett, good players as they may be, are not massive DT scorers. Membling summed it up well when he said:

You have Lake, Davis and Gibson in the back. They are either rebounding or stopping backs. Look for players who are more rebounding/midfield rotating. Could work but in for a rollercoaster ride.

4. Too much money on the mid bench, but it could work for you. Look for at least one bottom priced or near to bottom priced player for the bench which could give you 100k.
5. Are Kerridge, Young, Beams, Sexton, Sheed, Pearce, White and Menzel guaranteed games this season? Have a re-think about those guys.
6. Rucks. Almost everyone has picked one, if not both of Luey and Kreuzer for a reason.

Having said that, I like Docherty, Dahlhaus, Wingard and Roughy. There's definitely a team to work with, but it needs a bit of tweaking if you want to score highly. If your strategy is mid-pricers and a few guns then by all means continue down that road, but chances are it won't work out well for you. Have a look at some of the other teams to get a gauge on the most picked players and their strategies :)

According to an article today, Beau Waters has no timeframe on his return and has just suffered a minor setback in his recovery. That may throw a spanner in the works of almost everyone's team.

Rofl Yesterday i was wondering how many games i could get out of him before gets injured, well answer is 0.
Looks like Docherty / McStay is replacement.

There's not much worth in starting Whitecross. He's essentially missed two years of football and, despite training fluently and freely, will likely play about a month in the reserves and probably start off as the sub at AFL level. A month or two into the season you should look at him as a downgrade option, but to start with he isn't a great idea.
