Yes, in fact he had done enough after NAB2.
He probably can't be considered a lock for R1, but would be desperately unlucky if he missed out.
His problem might be that Talia is finally being given an opportunity and is playing rather well also. I'm not sure they will take Roughead, Talia, Morris AND Hamling into Rd1. If I had to guess, I'd say Hamling may be the one to miss out. Desperately unlucky, couldn't have done any more than what he has. Let's hope I'm wrong

Pies fans, what do you think about this theory? He's never adapted to the interchange cap. Seems to me he used to be untaggable because he would Sprint like mad for a few minutes, rack up a few possies and then rest using Kicks revolving door of interchanges. With less rest on the bench, he can't guy run like that anymore. If that's part of the problem, he won't get back to his 100+ average.

Yeah it's a solid theory. He used to exploit the old interchange rules beautifully. One of the best burst players you'll ever see. He's not the same player when forced to rest forward, add his age to that and he won't be the player of 09-13 anymore. No doubt barring injury he will go huge in some games but there will be low scores mixed in with that.

Swan as a forward doesnt have to get back to the 120 averages. Even if he could average 100 ish that means he is still worth taking.
Will a 100 average be enough as a forward in 2015??

Remember, you're not chasing an average, you're chasing the top 6 defenders, top 8 mids, top 2 ruckman and top 6 forwards.

Will the following finish higher than Swan at years end?

Gray
Harvey
Deledio
Bartel
Goddard
Buddy
Dusty

Chuck Zorko, Bonts, Bennell, Ziebell, Smith and Dahlhaus in the mix too.

Swan should be selected as a stepping stone IMO, not as a season long keeper, unless you think he'll end up in the top six. Looking at the list above, I doubt he will.

You don't pay $460k odd for a stepping stone.

That's why I don't have him in my side. He won't be a top 6 forward. IMO he won't be a top 8 either.
Agree to disagree, reckon he'll average ~105 which will be enough for top 6. He has never taken the preseason stuff seriously and even though he did some ok things in bursts, was largely anonymous and still racked up 88 points.

Also never understood the obsession with picking "top 6" or "top 8", past winners have selected people like Cotchin who bombed from top 8 to outside top 20 in their position yet they still won the comp, they offset that by nailing their value picks, those of which did not necessarily finish in the top 6 or 8 of their position. Picking two value picks who happen to finish 8th or 10th in their position for example or even lower (Marc Murphy last season) provides more points than picking someone that finishes 4th in their position for example yet with the loose change remaining, picking another bloke that only finishes 20th or 30th in his position.

In a perfect scenario we would all be picking the top x from each position at the start of every year, we're kinda constrained by the salary cap and the fact that the top x of each season drastically change outside of a very specific set of players who you can bank on every season (GAJ/Pendlebury).

SYDNEY SWANS

Reckon you can definitively cross off Tom Mitchell has a potential forward option for this season.
