100%, that's my reasoning behind picking them. Even if they stagnate and average the same as they did last year (85, 92 for Fisher), then I'll be happy to keep them given that the top defenders probably won't be too far ahead of them. I can't see any reason why their average would drop.
Fisher is 32 and hasn't been close to 22 games in a season since 2011.

Given everyone is struggling to find guys under 300k to fill the D5 and D6 spots which are looking pretty barren, i'm considering a bit of a left field option.

Taylor Hunt at 290k, yes I know he's a Richmond player but hear me out. He's never been a supercoach player and that's largely because he was used as a tagger by Geelong. It's been stated numerous times by Hardwick that he is going to be released from that role, playing loose in the midfield and down at half back. He's played really well in those 2 games, scoring a 70 and a 100. Would say he's pretty much locked into our round 1 side after those performances too so his JS is good compared to a lot around that price range. Wouldn't consider him any other year but a guy who is under 300k and could average 75+ doesn't sound too bad this year. Thoughts?
Can push forward and kick a goal as well.

Hunt was decent at Geelong and you're right, he was used primarily in a negating role. If he's used differently in a more attacking rebounding role it looks interesting.

Now I'm tossing between Clancee Ibbotson & Hunt @ D5.

he's tonned up twice now in the pre-season
seriously looking at him for a spot...perhaps not at D4 but maybe D5

i didnt see either of the games though. any Blues fans have an opinion on how he played?
Simon White is borderline best 22 & that's if there's a match up for him depending on who we play. To me he sits in the 22nd-26th bracket on our list as far as getting regular games go.

Will he be the free tagged with Crowley not playing? I reckon it puts a line through him
Someone has to do it as Ross likes to lock down heavily on the guns, and he's probably one of the least skilled in the Best 22 if that makes sense. It's a job suited to him really. I had forgotten about Crawley so yeah he's no longer an option.

White is a player i do not rate at all.
If you're going off pre-season scores, then Rohan Bewick ($344k) has 188 @ 94 from 2 games. I don't think either White or Bewick are good options (although am going to ask the question re: Bewick on the Lions board).

well this seems fairly definitive. i guess i'll add him to my bad ideas basket...he can keep Will Langford company.
thanks all

I was thinking the same thing, but now with Morris looking likely to play forward, just maybe there is a spot in the back 6 for him as a small defender
Yeah but even best case, he's never averaged over 60 and he's 300K. $40k more you can have ibbo. For a fair bit less you can get Macmillan, Rohan, Jaksch,Goodes etc so he's really not a viable option.

name price 2014avg coments

atley 387k 72 needs to work on def part of game. which im guessing will make output lower
durdin 147k 0 north have an abundance of tall guys. hes way down the list.
firrito 399k 74 likely to play most games. but a lil to old and role means not viable for sc
grima 406k 75 injured.
hansen 410 76 expect around same avg. inj a concern. pass
higgins 410 76 wont play every game. but outside runner in team whos best outside runner plays in a mobility scooter and scores.
jacobs 258 48 hmm. not in best 22
macmillan 270 63 will score better than cost. wont be a keeper
mcdonald 354k 66 hmm close to worth it.guessing will be more like sc worthy in 2016
mckenzie 269 50 awesome skills. starved of chances. not sure that will change.
mcmahon 267k 49 depth. max 10 games
mullet 314k 58 will need to improve to play 17 games same as last year.
nielson 117k 0 idk
thompson 422k 78 role change and he'd be back in sc viability
tippett 228k 42 massive unit. full back. will play 15 games at a guess. wont score heavily. pass
vickers-willis 117k 0 idk
warren 123k 11 idk

I'm with you. I'm not touching Hunt with a jousting stick. I was just commenting on whether he'll play.

What to hawks peeps think of birchall also now Gibbo will also get more of the pill.
He or MJ thinking of going with one of them.
I'd imagine they will all finish with roughly the same average by years end, 90 give or take. I'd prefer either of the Hawthorn blokes. Gibson 1st, less likely to cop defensive forward attention. Birchall 2nd, has been known to struggle with this type of attention. Johnson 3rd. Back injury always a worry, as is the health of some of his KPD team mates. Could see him needing to play more accountable = lower scoring potential.

a final note on the north defenders. tippet and tarrant (while fit) will take the kp def spots this year imo. my question is. will that release hampson/ thompson to be intercept mark guy again. thus viable. it does seem to be the plan.
those 2 + higgins and to a lesser extent macmillan and wright are all we should really be looking at this year from the kangas in defence.
