I think Whitey is going to have a huge say on whether we go back to back.
The players will want him to have a flag. He deserves it.
How on earth does he fit in the side?

He fits in, because while he is on the field, 17 others will play as one and a half each. How on earth does he fit in the side?
I've been in the car now for 6 hours, can't stop thinking about Hawthorn so have thought this all up. Apologies if too long.
TLDR THREEPEAT MUTHA****AZ
I genuinely think we can go again. The competition will be harder next year than current, but surely we couldn't have as bad an injury run as what we've just had.
If we can manage Burgoyne, Mitchell, Hodge, Lake and Gibson whilst making some clever moves in trade/free agency, there's no reason to think we won't be as strong as 2014 come finals.
The most exciting thing about next year to me is that we have arguably our two best young talents coming back in Whitecross and Anderson.
This is what I'd either expect or like to see happen prior to and during 2015.
OUT
- Sewell - Retire
- Delistings - I'm not sure, but you'd think Wanganeen, Grimley and Ross would have to put a strong case together to list management.
- Schoenmakers + Lowden + Hallahan + Cheney + Pick 19 + Pick 38 - Trade
IN
- Frawley - F/A - $600/700k - Contentious, but we tend to get the best out of players we bring in and at full flight, he's a brilliant full back.
- Tom Mitchell/Dylan Shiel - 3 way trade - Lowden has a lot of interest, so package him and our first round for for a first round upgrade and somehow weasel ourselves into a position where we can get one of the two. Can't say I'm confident, but we've worked wonders before and one of these two would be perfect. Absolute ideal replacements for Mitchell.
- Matt Buntine - Trade - I love this guy. Natural leader, would give Burgoyne and Hodge a chop out next year with the aim of replacing them in a couple years. Can play midfield and defence, has sublime skills, tough and GWS are stocked in this area. Schoenmakers + 38 would get him I reckon, but we could also do Hallahan + 38 for an upgrade on a pick and then Schoenmakers + say 25 for Buntine.
Main Group

It would be amazing if we could pull this off.
34 players all capable of playing, and will all be pushing hard for selection.
Pending fitness and surprise retirements, we'd arguably be in a better position than this year.

From what I have seen of O'Brien this year I doubt he's gonna make it. I maybe wrong but at the moment he's an adequate fill-in if Roughie and/or Gunston is not available. I think Sicily may leap frog O'Brien next year for this role and is a better future prospect. Input from others welcome.Anderson and Hartung will get 12+ senior game next year. So will Litherland I should think. O'Brien is also in his 3rd senior year and should be getting game time. I wonder if they will start resting/dropping guys like Burgoyne and Mitch. Seems hard to believe. Selection next season is going to be very challenging.

Davo, what are the differences in the size of these two lads. I understand O'Brien is a little taller but he can't jump and seems tentative in marking contests - whereas Sicily's approach is the opposite and with stronger hands.i agree with this statement, O'Brien needs to do something or else he might not be at the HFC for very long, has been god awful for Box Hill too often for my liking, whereas it looks like Sicily has a future as a medium forward.....

Sicily 186cm 77kg, he is that medium sized forward that plays in the mould of Fyfe(if fyfe played forward only), has courage, has aggression, marks the ball at the top of its arc, was amazing in his first VFL finals series, has potential and is flexible with how he plays
You never know though, maybe it was the pain of 2012 that led to the glory of 2013 and 2014. Maybe if we'd won 2012 there wouldn't have been enough drive within the group to win it in 2013 and 2014.I was just now able to bring myself to watch some of the '12 GF, first time since. In the light of what's happened since, it was easy, and caused me little consternation. I ended up just smiling.
The shitty part of course is, and I know there's too many variables to say for sure, but kick straight in that game and we could conceivably have our three-peat now, and be going for the quaddy!
Geez we Hawk fans are greedy...
Yeah they're some of the variables I was talking about...You never know though, maybe it was the pain of 2012 that led to the glory of 2013 and 2014. Maybe if we'd won 2012 there wouldn't have been enough drive within the group to win it in 2013 and 2014.
Similar to Geelong losing 2008. Perhaps that pain spurred them on to win 2009 and 2011 and the streak they had against us.

To come in and fight for spots next year:
Whitecross
Anderson
Simpkin
Hartung
Schoenmakers
Ceglar
Lowden
+- Sewell???
+- any draftees/trades
And possibly blooding to a lesser extent :
Hallahan
Ross
OBrien
Heatherley
Sicily
Wanganeen
Woodward
Now that's the sort of depth that could go btbtb...
I'd have Hallahan, Woody and Litherland in the top list.To come in and fight for spots next year:

I think we would have done some resting players this year if we hadn't had the injuries we did
I'd like to think Hodge, Mitchlell, Burgoyne & Lewis would only play 19 H&A matches each if they were fit for all of them
How on earth does he fit in the side?

With a fit and healthy list, we're going to have a few selection issues. There are worse problems to have though!Suckling Hale Duryea and Spangher aren't going to be very happy with you.
