Bennell is such an intriguing case because his potential best is so unbelievably high, like top 5 in the league high. I want us to take the gamble. Newman was in a far deeper hole and we managed to turn his life and footy career around.

Nisbett has come out and said we are not interested in Bennell.

Just hope that Nisbetts failures to control past playing groups isn't responsible for us overlooking a genuine opportunity to add an A grader or to at least make the Dockers offer up their first.
He didn't actually say that at all.

Since it has been reported that Richmond pulled out the race for Bennell, it is more than likely Freo will get him.

Does anyone know if we will compete with Freo too land him? If he is worth a 2nd rounder what the hell, and bring Jetta/Redden I might as well book flights to melbourne in 2016 for the GF.....

Oh god here we go again, the "Newman is exactly the sort of small forward/crumber we need...." despite the fact that isn't is role. He kicked 2 goals from his last 8 WAFL games, if you think that qualifies as a crumber in our team we should just boot Lecras or Cripps out right now.

Re Bennell - We just played in a grand final like half an hour ago and our flag window has been well and truly thrown open. He's definitely worth the risk now considering what position we're in as a club and the success he could possibly bring. So what if Richmond said no? Maybe they asked him how he'd deal with choking and getting punted out of the finals in week 1 and he replied "Not very well at all..." so he wasn't the right fit?

Grow a pair Nisbett.

Nope, he's Jack Darling V2.0
Just move McGovern forward.
Absolutely McGovern is the answer at present however I wonder if the club is considering a Key forward to bolster the list.

Is a Jack Darling V 2.0 better than a Jack Darling though God?

I wish we could just clone McGovern.

For what he would cost us, no. If we are going to make a big trade is absolutely HAS to be for a decent midfielder.

We should be all over Bennell, Nisbetts inadequacies aside.

Newman isn't the small forward answer more a mid forward rotation.

Do we have any young crumbing forwards on our list? They keep trying to push Karparny that way but he's more of a midfielder.

If richmond are saying no then all my instincts are telling me that yes is the correct footballing decision

Bennell is the obvious one but if we cant land a quality mid then hopefully we land a quality something...

Even forwards who are smarter/quicker to the ball drop would help slightly offset our sometimes wayward I50 delivery.

They do that with anyone on our list under 180cm, it's ******* annoying. Hams, Newman, Karpany... Just draft/trade a genuine small forward FFS.

Pickett, Ah Chee, or Ahern, could possibly have been that type? Don't know enough about them.

It's why i wanted Garlett, 40 goals this year and they paid jam for him, what a steal.

I don't get it, why trade for something we likely don't need? What would you trade for McCarthy?

The Vic clubs are dropping off Bennell faster than Jack the ninja dropped Darling. Even Richmond, who are desperate for onfield success and backed themselves to turn around Dustin Martin and before that Cousins.

That screams to me that he's got issues way too big to take on.

Not expecting this to happen but imagine if we could add all 3 of Bennell, Jetta and Redden to our midfield next year.

Out: Selwood, Rosa, Hutchings and McGinnity
In: Duggan, Bennell, Jetta and Redden.

Added to Shuey, Yeo, Gaff, Priddis, Masten and Sheed.

Surely Simmo can see it would be worth a crack for the onfield benefit.
