He would effect our compo for selwood .
We also don't need him .
We need mids
Diluting the Selwood compo could be a consideration.
What's our expected comp for Selwood? if it's after our second round pick than I would reckon that's worth giving up for Suckling.

If it's after our first round pick then we have got a bargain out of Selwood.

They're saying his contract won't be big enough to warrant a 1st round compo, so it will almost certainly be a 2nd round, so #35 before any other compo picks are handed out to other clubs (i.e. likely to be pick 40 when all is said and done).

In a draft that apparently only goes 20-deep, pick 40 holds little value for a club in West Coast's position (ladder and playing list wise). Not unless we look to use the pick in another trade.

WC have flagged that they'll match the compo pick and force a trade. Would be chasing a first-rounder. Could be tough given that Geelong will be juggling a few trades.

There's been talk that other Vic clubs are interested in Selwood, I wonder if Scott would consider it or if he wants Geelong or nothing?

I can't see us getting a 1st round pick in a trade though, he missed selection for the Grand Final in a team who counts it's midfield as it's biggest weakness.

no way he is worth that
There is no way Selwood is even close to a first rounder.... That would be a steal... Then factor in that Geelong have Dangerfield and Henderson trying to get to Geelong and we just won't get that pick.

If we are expected to get around #35 for Selwood then losing that pick should not be a consideration when going after other free agents.

That perception changed this season

Agreed. I don't think they'll actually give up a first round pick but expect the club to play hardball anyway for a former club champ, regardless of how poor he's been this year. Would also be a good fit for the Dees but it looks like he's got his heart set on Geelong.

even if we used a pick at around 35 I think we could still pick a good player

Has anyone seen him play?
Yes, was probably at his best 2-3 years ago. Clearance and tackle sort of player but can bob up for a goal. I think a must get if he wants to come. Will help priddis out with putting his head over it. Not sold on Jetta, elite kick and great decision maker but his defence part of the game is a worry but so is Josh Hills so would be an upgrade.

Also if Lycett wants to leave for more opportunity then we'll need a ruckman and Leuenerberger is restricted free agent and a WA boy. Probably a bit of an improvement on Callum Sinclair too.
Berger is a number 1 ruck and number 1 ruck only. Like godstein he needs to be the main man for 95% of the game and that aint happening at west coast

Yes he was pretty exciting a few years ago but I feel like his skills have dropped a bit and now is a little bit of a slogger. Pretty good ready made priddis assistant/replacement though. Averages 10 contested possessions. I would be very very happy to pay a second rounder for him.

He wants to be the #1 ruck no doubt, but I don't think he is the same player it looked like he was going to become thanks to injury. Essendon look well in the hunt for him, and maybe he'll turn it around and you can't begrudge him taking a shot at a club to be the #1 ruck again. Good luck to him if he does.

Not sure if Freo need Jetta but they will pip us for him if they want him. They have a better first rounder than us and Swans will force him to go there if needs be. I doubt they will get McCarthy as he has two more years left on his contract so GWS can sit on him for the time being, and they will probably get Bennell for free, leaving them their first rounder still in play.

After the GF and having more time to think of our deficiencies; I now want Jetta even less than before, and Redden more than ever.
Redden is a genuine ball winner. Opposition clubs would need to put a bit of effort in to stop his influence which would free up Shuey and Gaff.
