I'm going to pose you a question. Compare the 2003 draft and the 2008,10,14 drafts. Would you rather pick 15 and 33 in the 03 draft and no trades or say trading 15 and 33 and getting coniglio and using pick 51, 69 and upgrading a rookie.

Compare the same deal but using the potential prospects around in the 2008,2010,14 drafts. In situation 1 i would take coniglio and the prospect picks every day of the week. If it was option 2 we were looking at i'd be running to the draft. To me lit looks like we're looking at this being an option 1 not an option 2 draft.

A quality known player is worth so many times more than a late first and late second rounder. Coniglio will be a top 10 player on our list in years to come if we were to secure him or someone of similar quality. Potentially top 5 on our list. If you were to go to arguably the worst draft in the past decade and pull out a player who's in your top 5 players you would be stoked. People need to stop overrating draft picks.
Yeah fair point mate, you are right on the money about Option 1 or Option 2. I am scared of the prospect of us overpaying for Coniglio and I'm confident in our drafting ability after the 2014 draft. If we can get Coniglio for our first rounder (say pick 15) and draft astutely to our needs with our remaining picks then that would be a win.

To be honest, I haven't been that impressed with Coniglio recently. I don't have the depth of exposure to him that other posters have, so I dont have the confidence that you have in his talent and future benefit to the team.

If it happens then one of us will be punished by hindsight and one of us vindicated.

Take it we are keen to trade him to GWS for Cogs?

GWS could just take Scooter for free....
Think it'd be more likely that Selwood would go to a Vic club and we'd trade the compo pick for Coniglio.

From our point of view that'd be Selwood for Coniglio

If we only offered josh hill a one year contract on average money do you think he would go looking for a better deal ? He was almost on the scrap heap at the start of the season and now his value would be at its highest . He may kick 35+ goals this year
Sell sell sell !
Would hill get a pick 25-40 ?

Upgrade Newman off the rookie list to play the same role .

I think if we offered him a one year deal on average money he'd gladly take it

I would like Jetta at West Coast

Coniglio for Selwood is a very good draft scenerio , Selwood at his B&F best was pretty good and brings experience ... so hope so now .

Wouldn't mind Jetta for our 2nd pick, definitely not 1st round, with him being 27 next season.
Not sure Jetta adds to much or if he'd even be guaranteed best 22 at this stage. If he was more adept as a forward pocket, maybe, but I'm quite happy with Gaff, Rosa, Masten, Duggan, Lecras on the wings atm along with the rest of the midfield rotation. I'd expect Cripps to become more involved there too. I'd rather focus on getting Conigs and Bennell.

Lol. Weren't you saying you didn't want to give up our 1st round pick for Coniglio, yet you somehow think hill would get anywhere near pick 25? If we offered 1 year and he didn't take it, we'd let him go as a delisted free agent. He's not worth anything

Would GWS even take what we'll get for Selwood? Any idea what the compo pick might be? End of 1st rd at best I would of thought but I'm no expert on these things
