Freeman was rated as an explosive mid who runs straight lines and was a bit selfish with his ball use, would rather kick it long than dish it off. No doubt he was rated a top 10-15 talent in a very strong draft, probably a top 5-10 in most other drafts. What's he worth now? Well Collingwood have played around 47 games since he arrived and he has played the grand total of zero. He has ongoing issues and may not play more than half of next season once fit.
If anyone thinks he is worth more than a third round pick then they are deluded.

Re Carlisle, quite simply, how are they going to pay him at the Dogs? Paying Boyd has totally destroyed their salary cap, he is the price of a Jack Riewoldt AND Nick Riewoldt, think about that! I also think they are paying their ex captain to play at GWS next year also.
I would gather it may gain traction if Talia doesn't take the contract with the Dogs despite being OOC, though as you've stated, their cap is precious to say the least and Carlisle is overs as far as trading talk is going, the Dogs would have to offload more money to entertain it and I don't see it happening.

This one is for the Pies supporters who wish to come onto our board and complain about losing Freeman, or about being linked to everyone.

In the 3 years since 2012, Collingwood have brought in 11 AFL listed players.

2012: Lynch, Young, Hudson and Russell in - Dawes and Wellingham out but for top 20 picks (overs)

2013: Armstrong, White, Karnezis, Adams in - lost Thomas (for overs), Shaw (practically sacked by the club), Paine (spud).

2014: Crisp, Greenwood, Varcoe in - Harry O (spud) and Beams (gun but fair trade) out.

There are a few of these guys who were traded early in their career, such as Adams, Karnezis and Crisp. Others who were traded after injury plagued seasons/careers, such as Varcoe, Armstrong, Young, White. So I don't know what they are whinging about. Then you have got Treloar, who GWS have pumped all of their resources into - who has overcome his injuries who just came 2nd in their B&F - how dare they take him away from GWS

But honestly, they are linked with so many players because 11 recycled players over three years is huge for any team - in particular a team who are supposably rebuilding!

Then there are confirmed reports that they tried unsuccessfully to poach our Captain.

We have lost a few first rounders (Cripps, McEvoy, BJ, Dal, Lynch) over the last few years, we have picked up a few with talent - most teams have. But surely even the most one eyed Pies supporter can see that their complaining over Freeman is completely unreasonable due to their recent history - even before the rumours over his poor contract, black mail and mistreatment are discussed.

Why do people keep adding shit picks together and saying they add up to this pick with the points combined it doesn't 2 players picked in the 50s are crap only matters to clubs with academy players
Care to post an example of someone doing this in order to advance discussion instead of just raging about it?

I would normally rather our club trade fairly with other clubs, but I am now thinking it would be great to get Freeman and Carlisle via the preseason draft.

Then go to the draft with pick 5 just to piss Collingwood of even more

Unfortunately the PSD is dead. We didn't even use it when we had pick one. Clubs and players now want to do the right thing.

A lot of teams are starting to pass as early as the 50's now unless they are drafting for a need, F/S or Academy. They are worth next to nothing

St Kilda believe the new future draft picks could help the club to land both Collingwood youngster Nathan Freeman and Essendon's Jake Carlisle, if the Bomber nominates St Kilda as his preferred destination.

As the departing Freeman has nominated the Saints as his preferred club, the Saints have indicated that future picks will make it easier for clubs in their position to complete multiple deals, such as Freeman and Carlisle.

Pick 5 is problematic for the Saints, because it is such a high selection and they will be keen to retain it, despite their trading objectives. They have yet to meet with Carlisle, who is overseas, but are committed to recruiting Freeman and have offered the former top 10 pick (2013 draft) a three year deal.

St Kilda's chief operating officer, Ameet Bains, indicated that the future picks could play a role in the club's trading this year, without specifically addressing Freeman or the possibility of Carlisle.

"The introduction of future picks gives clubs some flexibility to do more trades in a given year," Bains said.

Posted my thoughts on the D&T board about the Nathan Freeman trade:

Very smart move by the Saints going after Freeman. 300k is still under the AFL average wage. They'll get a highly rated youngster in on the cheap during a lean draft year. They have cap space to burn for a couple of years, when they challenge in 2-3 years he'll either be apart of it and over it his injuries by then or moved on freeing up 300k in the process for a free agent.
this is exactly what most people dont realise

we have been so far under the salary cap the last couple of years that we have had to top load contracts to make it inside the minimum TPP (95%) salary cap. most of these come to an end this year so without paying overs for some guys to come in, we would be under the cap by too much this year. sure freeman is coming in on an inflated wage to what he is probably worth, but it will help fill out that TPP a bit more. the cap space is almost certainly still there to recruit a big name free agent or 2 over the next couple of years

No mention of the Dog's in that article only the Blues. The guy on the AFL website might've been on drugs.

I really hope Freeman comes good but it will be great just having him warning our players how he was treated and how much better the saints are ;)
a few of our younger kids today were ecstatic at the thought of Freeman joining, they were comparing him to Dangerfield!

Deal 2– Screw the Pies
Out: 42, 49 main point
In: Freeman

Notes: Values Freeman at 682 points or pick 28.

Deal 3 – Carlisle Carnage
Out: 24, 2016 2nd, Saunders
In: 41, Carlisle

Notes: If our 2016 2nd is pick 24 then this deal values Carlisle at 1158 points or pick 14 + Saunders. Saunders is expendable and we need the list spot. If Ray leaves then I'd try to keep Saunders.
