GWS needed to clear up their list size so it works for them. Pick 28 doesn't seem like
Much for 4 players but can be the difference with some academy players or whatever.

How many list spots do Carlton have spare?
Still have picks 1, 8, 20, 21, 59 & 60 after bringing in 5 senior list players.
Are they likely to try and upgrade to a pick 7 or 14 after GWS complete their next deals?
7 for 20&21 is a points gain for GWS with 59/60 of no use to Carlton so able to be thrown in too.

EDIT: Also likely to add 19 for Yarran. 5 picks in first 21!

I hope not now. As much as Weller and Aish look like players we need to get the best mid we can which there should be some good ones still and draft someone. Unless we are getting them as absolute bargains we need to back the talent scouts.
I'm not sure that "best available " is sure to be a midfielder. The draft seems to have a lot of developing forwards, and other positional players.

I really like the sound of Hibberd as a Sam Fisher replacement.

4 ordinary players for a reasonable pick doesn't look corrupt to me and those players were likely delistings anyway with the list having to be cut.

Jonno O Rourke was an ordinary player but because he was high pick he got something back. Plowman was a pick 3 and he has gone as a freebie. Sumner similar- was a pick 10. SOS picked them so he must see something in them all I guess. Lamb must be pretty average to end up at three clubs though.

Carlton's list IS very ordinary. They can essentially replace some ordinary old players with ordinary young players and hope that the young's improve one day.

Sumner may never play again and Plowman may just be a bad choice at 3 like Moylan was at 9 in the super draft in 2001. No doubt SOS sees something in them but he loses me when he doesn't see something in Menzal.

Didn't we just get another tall. Surly we have a Fisher replacement already at the club. I cant even get Goddard in the starting backline for round one.

They got rid of Menzel who will end up being a superstar.

They have something against forwards, they lost in the last 5 or so years
Kennedy
Fev
Waite
Betts
Garlett
Robinson
Menzel
.............and then tried to get rid of Casboult. They lost Lauchie Henderson who can play both ends and Bell who is a goal kicking mid as well. WTF is SOS doing.

I actually like the deal from a Carlton perspective...

Kerridge and the GWS Four will give them much more value than Menzel would in the next 3-5 years as they open up the rebuild.

If they take Weitering at #1 and land Weideman or Collins at #8 they have set themselves up pretty well. Still going to get a first rounder for Yarran to help grab a midfielder too.

Not a bad effort for a team with clearly the worst list in the comp.

Hibberd is only 191, so a tall short rather than a short tall. Very long accurate kick by all accounts.
Carlisle = Full Back, Goddard CHB, Roberton and Hibberd rebounding defenders.

Menzel is an absolute stuff up. I really can't see why he seems to want to make them unable to score. Arran can play back or forwards on a wing and he pretty much had a go at shifting out anyone that might look like scoring. That's what you get when you put a defender in charge of recruiting.

I reckon you build the list around your best guys that are in the right age bracket. He will be a very good player for 5 plus years and is only just starting. He would be more value in a few years when properly developed. Kerridge would have come for small change and the other three didn't rely on selling off Menzel.
