Surely we will aggressively chase a young kpd? Kolo seems a good shout.. Fish and Gilbert haven't played too much the last couple years but we will certainly notice the difference when dempster is gone

Just to throw another name out there, James El Moussalli from the Knights.

He's currently injured but is a beast of a kid...187cm, very athletic & skills on both sides. Gave Tucker a touch up earlier in the year (despite the Rebels poleaxing the Knights). The Knights have mismanaged him to a point but a current high profile coach watched him play against the Dragons & commented that 'he's ready to play AFL now'.

As he'll miss the champs his stock will no doubt fall but could be a very nice option for a later pick or rookie spot.

I actually hope if we grab a top 5 mid in this years draft, I hope we get another top 5 mid in next years.. I think we are short on potential a grade mids.. We will have the depth no worries but I think at least 2 top talents and use the other picks/ trades / psd on defenders we will be ready to start moving.. But I think if we make a move up the ladder next year it may be slightly premature

FA will help fix that.

I'd be a bit worried if I was Lewis Pierce. I know he's a ruck man and young but he's last in the ruck pecking order, even behind Holmes now.

We may have to look at demoting him to the rookie list next year to make room for new draftees and recruits. Especially if we decide to persist with guys like White and Siposs.

If Fisher and Dempster decide to go on another year then I think Peirce, Siposs, White, Markworth and Minchington will all be nervous. Simpkin will definitely be delisted IMO.

We will probably need to make room for 5 spots. 3 draftees, 1 recruit and 1 rookie upgrade.

Rice can kick the football.
Not sure you can say that about Wright.;)
i think you're just trading for different flaws between the two, which is my worry

i think people are over-rating rice just because of the father son. i mean lets be honest, if he wasnt a father son candidate we wouldnt be talking about him at all

Exactly! Why bother with having father son if you are going to pay exact value? You might as well hold off on taking a father son and see who's available at your pick. The bidding should be in reverse. Let someone else try and pick him during the draft day itself, say, Geelong (for example), we only reveal at that point the amount of points we are willing to offer at that point.

I did know it was going to be less. I did read something like x% with the discount locked to pick 18's value post round 1 at under 200 points. But yeah, I still think it's rather close to exact value. But yeah, I know you are being exacting :D

I'm a lover, not a fighter
Part of it with Rice is the sheer value of getting an FS. It allows you to get somebody for a cheaper draft pick than you would otherwise. But yeah, I can't help feeling he'd be better off going to the Blues, as he won't get into the side behind Savage, Webster, etc anyway.

The new system takes some of the value away though. We will get some FS kids in the future just in time for it to be scrapped.

spot on. add to it competitive nature of fans, theyre treating it like rice nominating us as his club of choice is validation that we are better than the blues

its ridiculous

when in reality we should only want him if he will improve our list, which to be honest. i dont think he will

wright, with his kicking aside, is still a far better prospect. likewise geary. hell i'd even say shenton is a better prospect

Just my opinion but dont think rice will nominate the saints because

Hes a blues supporter
His dad was dubioulsly traded by us to carlton
His dad played in a premiership with carlton
He played with sos now carlton list manager

Would be surprised he nominated us thats all

Henry Schade from Gold Coast might be one to keep an eye on in terms of key defenders. He's out of contract at the end of this year.
Spoke to our mate Brett about him; was of the opinion that he was likely to be loyal and hang around.

As much as I like Rory Thompson, it's Leslie and Schade I would target from GC. They're younger which suits our development structure, haven't got injury question marks and we won't end up in a bidding war which might end up with us mortgaging the farm.

Schade is more of a natural defender than Leslie, but is still fearfully skinny at 197/89 and 18 months older.

Gimme Jack V.

Why does he (Kolo) want to leave? He's only been at the place for 18 months.
Perhaps if they land Lachie Henderson he'll see the writing on the wall?

What all this about Rice can only play here or is not good enough for us because of whoever?

He is 18. Fyfe was about 7cm shorter and about 15 kilo's lighter when he was drafted.

Rice may be a beast in 5 years and will still only be 23.

You want to give the filthy Blues a possible leg up like that? I don't.
