We are a mess, I would encourage us to throw money at Johnson, Stokes and Kelly! All 3 would finish top 10 in our B and F, they would also give us enough of an influence on the group! Dreaming I know, but this club needs some vision!

Can't say they've nailed it when they've struggled to fit Ryder into their system and Dixon is a similar type although obviously more FWD orientated. Westhoff, Ryder and Dixon are all pretty similar types and don't see that mix being worth the money they're pumping into it.

It's an interesting dilemma. On one hand, they have struggled with Schulz not providing much of a target any more + Westhoff being more suited to a floating role. However, you have to wonder is taller/less mobile forwards suit their style of play. From what I've seen this year, their ball movement has really slowed down and they've been forced to retain possession for longer than they'd like. Perhaps teams worked out how to combat what they'd been doing previously and this is just part of the evolution of their gameplan.

Doing this after retiring mid-season because their bodies aren't up to it anymore would be some achievement.

Don't see Kelly or Johnson limping to the end of this season, Stokes is only 29. If we get 1-2 years out of these blokes I would take it, there are massive cultural issues at the club. You bring in 1 person and that cannot be addressed, you bring in 3 and you start to develop a sphere of influence. I would rather pick these 3 blokes up and have them as playing assistant coaches over a 3 duds who only contribute to the negativity in the place. No messiah factor here, we need some experience, footy smarts and experience!!!

Schultz is a shadow of the man of last year but you have to wonder if that's him or the delivery. Although his kicking for goal has also been shifty this year.

With their game plan I don't see 3 really tall bean poles who struggle to put on real defensive pressure being effective.

BTW your post shows me as the second quote, that wasn't me and I personally don't think there's any reason for us to pickup any of the Geelong discards.

Yeah, definitely credit for picking a target and executing the plan... Just not a great plan IMO.

Better plan than what we currently have- shit coach, disgruntled group, terrible crowds, supporters wanting to howl each other down. Recruiting A few mature champion footballers would definitely be a stupid idea for our club!

It really is getting frustrating being a Lions supporter at the moment the club needs to clean up its act otherwise player's will just keep leaving

I would definitely be for bringing in some of these guys. Need to start building a culture and what better way to do so then having some ex premiership teammates get us back on track

Kelly and Johnson are already limping to the end of this season. What do you think might happen next year if they played on? I'm really not sure what influence Stevie J would have- teach our players how to behave in an embarrassing manner on the field and give away stupid free kicks?
By the way, Stokes is apparently 29 going on 33. His body seems done as well. As someone said recently, the only one worth getting as a player/future assistant would be Enright if he was willing to go on for another season.

Footy isn't supposed to be this depressing. The Mayes rumour has got me.
Yep, Mayes one has got me feeling real deflated. I don't mind it when we're losing, but when're having such issues internally within the club, between playing group and coaches, I just get sick to the stomach. Weird feeling.

I thought we had hit rock bottom but maybe I'm wrong.

Still more pain to come?

Feels like the first couple of days of next week are going to be the proverbial watershed moments in the club's history.

We desperately need some good news.

So if we are to believe the goss the others to join Redden will be Aish, Stef, Mayes, Zorko and Paps. Did I miss any?
Aish: gone
Stef: will almost certainly stay next year, but future beyond that uncertain. More likely to retire than go to another club. Has other things going on.
Mayes: probably gone
Zorko: staying
Paparone: haven't heard anything on him.
