We FICKED up massively today. I don't care what the do gooders say about a win being better for the club, get real we just lost pick 1 and possibly pick 2 as well with talk that Kruezer may leave Carlton as a RFA.

The number of clubs being linked to Leuenburger was growing and that only meant one thing to Brisbane, pick 2 compo for him leaving because if the rumours are correct of contract offers of around the $650k mark that is well above what Frawley signed at Hawthorn for ($2.2m over 4 years). All we had to do was lose.

Leppa should be sacked for now screwing the club over again with such a pathetic coaching exhibition that he couldn't get a loss out of this, like seriously how hard did he have to try to make sure we lost, not very, just do some longer rotations in the midfield for our second string mids, a few longer rests for Martin so he spent less time in the ruck. Don't need much just an extra couple of minutes a quarter would do it.

I no longer understand what Brisbane are trying to do. We are an absolute joke of a football club with no idea of how to rebuild a side, pathetic administration and the worst coach in the competition.

Brisbane lose a few games: "lets sack Leppa!"

I'm convinced after today the club would be happy to consider offers for Mayes. He is not hard enough nor does he pressure the opposition when defending. Saw numerous times where he was nowhere near aggressive enough. He may well have received some home truths over the past month.

Its a sad predicament to be in when even myself who i would call a loyal supporter wanted pick 1 in the draft. This is only as it was going to give us what we needed a power forward. Watching kennedy taking contested marks now makes you realise what we are missing. Carlton and the melbourne media are going to be doing all they can now to ensure kruezer goes for pick 2 under free agency compensation which unfortunately means an 8 point win could have longer implications. Francis could be a superstar but our needs are a high class forward and now carlton holds all the aces. They will also play hardball on aish if he nominates them which means we get unders for him. If the AFL have any integrity they would make sure that carlton dont receive pick 2 but only until this day i was hoping we would get this if leunberger leaved. The main thing thats agaisnt us if afl see us win today and think things aren't that bad and then see carlton get hammered and think there in dire straights.

Are you for real?
Do you know the meaning of KARMA?
That's what hit MELBOURNE and CARLTON re: tanking for pick 1.

No longer understand what Brisbane are trying to do? I though that was obvious - build a winning culture.
Let's wait until the trade/draft period starts before we start sacking Leppa/making stupid statements
Also, if you honestly believe we are an absolute joke of a footy club then 'see ya'

Anyone who thinks getting pick 1 instead of 2 or 3 is the way to build a successful football club has little idea about football. Today we avoided the wooden spoon which was taken out by a team with 3 successive number 1 picks at their club. Ridiculous statements by some people

Leppa is so bad at coaching that the one time he tried to get them to lose the Lions end up winning instead.
Leppa did look angry/annoyed when we were beating the Dogs...

Sorry what a load of cra#. So in 5 years time when we arr still trying to kick a winning score and scache is kicking 50 plus goals a season you lot will sit back and think hey that win in round 23 was worth it. Any positives from that win could of been replaced by having picks 1 and 2 and potentially having a key forward and key defender for next 10 years if we fix our retention issues which with lambert we likely to do. Im happy to cop another loss to get the key position players we need but seems a lot of you would like to be having the conversation next year and years after that about having no forwards to kick to

The moment players realize they are being played out of position and forced to manufacture a loss, we might as well fold as a footy club.

No coasting today, every one tried and we got a win. Even better, we avoided the spoon.

We have a simple fix to our retention/rebuilding/on field problems - Win. We did today. All the rest doesn't matter.

What hit Melbourne was two things, an incompetent board run by a favourite son and a stupid decision to sack Bailey and bring in Mark Neeld. Neeld destroyed the rebuild that Bailey was doing and doing reasonably successfully, they won 8 games in each of his last two season, a feat they have not matched since.

Culture, what culture? It starts with strong leadership at board level and that doesn't exist. I've never seen a successful AFL or VFL side with a divided board. I was friends with the late Phil Ryan (Hawthorn President 1968 - 1979), who I can remember saying when discussing football administration,

"It really doesn't matter what sort of playing group you have, if they see a divided administration and infighting at board level, then you will never have on field success. Leadership is just about having the right captain but it begins with the board and flows down from there, not the other way around."

We have a divided board, that is abundantly clear to everyone in football. It has been that way for the best part of the last decade and really doesn't look like settling down.

As for the "see ya" comment. That's what so many in Victoria have not renewed memberships. The Victorian membership base in the decade after the merger was running at between 6,000-9,000 now it is below 3,000 and that has nothing to do with being poor onfield it has everything to do with treating members like $hit for a number of years. We have finally made a slight step forward in acknowledging the Fitzroy fans, but the clubs is still miles behind where we were when Andrew Ireland was CEO. Take this year for example, there was a brilliant opportunity to have a game played prior to the Melbourne v Brisbane game that would of appealed to both clubs, with Old Melbournians v Fitzroy who are both in Premier B in the VAFA, but was it looked at, not for a second. Yet I can remember in 2003 or 2004 Fitzroy VAFA side did play before an AFL game on the MCG, at the time they were in D3, some 4 levels below where they are now.

In the last two years we have gone backwards. Tonight was the best performance under Leppitsch, but in two years under him we are behind where we were in 2013 and are starring at another exodus of talent worse than 2013 with Aish, Leuenburger and Redden all going, rumours surrounding Mayes, Adcock told he isn't required and possibly others to go as well. You can't tell me that if we get a 2013 with 5 players leaving for other clubs we can honestly think Leppa is the man to lead the club forward.

I will if it has helped the likes of Andrews, McStay and Taylor regain some confidence in the direction the club is going and resulted in them wanting to stick around and work towards more success. I remember fans labelling a win late in the 2011 season against Port Adelaide as "meaningless" and yet I had a chat to Rockliff one day and he referred to that win as one that instilled some real belief and confidence in the young players and resulted in him, Rich and Redden wanting to carry the team forward and sign on.

You name 3 blokes, only one of them is a marking option in our forward line. We need a key forward desperately and may well of just lost the best one in this year's draft, for what a meaningless win in round 23.

I just randomly listed 3 quality young players. Throw in Freeman as well he's a key forward.

If we don't end up getting Schache it would obviously be disappointing, but I think in 2 years time we could have a potentially potent forward duo in Freeman and McStay. We'll still pick up a quality talent in the draft either way and I'd rather see a confidence boosting win that shows what we can be, than another 75 point pile of shit loss.
