We will be drafting three or four younguns who may be good players in two or three or four years time. Casboult and Bell are needed now for the development of them and the rest of our young list.
Also lets not discount that having good trainers at a club really shows young players the way. Robbo apparently trains the house down, and Bell who I assume (note assume) is also a good trainer. As far as kicking goes, tie Casbolt to the goalpost Lynch style

Also, these comparisons between Bell and Robinson aren't overly accurate. Robinson is a good decision maker who is let down by execution on occasion. Is a good player and was often a barometer for Carlton. Tom Bell is a terrible decision maker who is let down by his disposal. I've watched around half of Carlton's game this year gone and too often he tries to take on another tackler and gets caught. If we're going to get him it has to be in a Robinson situation where we are not giving up a lot. The last thing we need is another butcher who makes poor decisions that we've sold the farm for.

You are taking the pi#$ surely. So a bloke that would come in and be our best forward is a list clogger.Interesting.
We just finished 17th & have no current developed key forwards. Being our best forward wouldn't be too difficult. Fast forward 5 years to where you would like our club to be. Can you imagine Casboult getting a game in a top 6 team?

He isn't the player to take us to top 6 either. Prefer to leave Casboult out & feed games into Freeman, McStay & Close ( & Shache if available).

WOW. You rather have Pick 29 in a weak draft and a out of contract VFL spud. WOW.
.
Pick 29 helps to pay for the academy kids. Also has a flow on effect in helping us get William provided we want him.

Seedsman was in Collingwoods best 22 when they were 8-3 in the first half of the year. I wouldn't exactly call him a vfl spud even if it is where he finished the year.

You would prefer two fringe players in the 18th team in the Comp with significant "coach killing" flaws which have showed no signs of fixing these flaws despite multiple years in an AFL environment?

Yes, why not? Sometimes playing in a better side is easier, especially as a key forward when the ball is being delivered quickly and accurately.

Yeah it's a tricky decision, isn't it.

On one hand their is A grade talent available, like Bennell, but comes with a buyer beware tag. At the same time has the talent that we need and is 22 years of age.

On the other hand do we trade picks for experienced players such as Bell, Casboult and Suckling. By all means will be in our best 22 in the short term and are in the right age bracket is well. Only problem is I would expect the younger players to surpass them as they get more games invested in them like Andrews. Are we stalling the development of players like Keayes, Hipwood and Schache, if we are playing those experienced players. Usually experienced player can play out games and the season much longer, resulting in fewer 50 point losses.

Clearly the club indicated that we are taking the youth policy path. Maybe our best option is to trade Redden and Aish for Adelaide's 2 first round picks and stock pile our list with first round talent. Then trade lower picks for out of contract experienced players in 12 months time like Bell, Casboult and Cam Ellis-Yolmen.

Also if there is a opportunity to grab A grade talent like Bennell, I would do it. At the right price of course. If we can convince Bennell to nominate us as his preferred club and he ends up costing us a late first round pick, then why not take the risk.

Re Bell & Casboult, I hear what you are saying and I don't really have a view either way but as a matter of interest, what were you views on us picking up Mitch Robinson this time last year...weren't exactly the same things being said about his disposal and turnovers?
I actually had pretty mixed views with Mitch.

Still have big concerns even now over his foot skills/decision making.

Having him is another reason why I'd be concerned bringing another two poor kicks into our current team. Skills in the forward line would be so hit or miss.

Yes but then you kick to Casboult, he takes a terrific mark but then turns it over and the ball goes down the other end of the field with your mids & defenders are out of position.

Sounds somewhat similar to what we've been watching at theLions all year.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic but it seems like Bennell is a real chance to come to us. Swan did say that we're bringing another A grader (I think) and who else but Bennell on the market fits this? certainly not Bell, Suckling, Casboult etc and Tim Watson seems to think he's coming here too (he could've pulled it from anywhere and might just be BS I guess)

Swann has never stated this. He said there are players interested in joining Brisbane but never stated that they were A grade talents.

Don't think Casboult's field kicking is that bad...
Nor do I. And let's face it, he is best value when marking within goal kicking distance, not on the wing or centre square. If he relieves in the ruck he will be no worse in his disposal than many other ruckmen.

With all this talk about Casboult here, has there been anything to suggest he wants out of Carlton or Carlton wants to trade him?

I'd rather look at Josh Walker, who is an uncontracted forward for a team with a surplus of key forwards. He can sort of kick straight, provide a physical contest and has the mobility and endurance to play up the field at CHF or relief ruck if needed. I'd guess he can defend a bit better too. Casboult is a contracted forward for a team very, very short on KPPs who cannot kick straight and isn't mobile enough to play up the field or do anything when the ball is on the ground. His only positive is that he can clunk quite a few more of his contested marks, but I really struggle to see him adding much that Walker wouldn't. Josh Walker would come far cheaper too.

He's also three years younger which is a tick.

Ben Lennon is out of contract and showed some good signs late this year.
If Redden still wants out is there a way we could work him into the trade?? Would be a very handy 3rd leading tall once he matures! Possibly even a big bodied mid!

Would look at him for sure. 1st round talent from a few years back.
