We are in need of a pseudo forward line captain for the next year or 2. I know why some posters are looking at Casboult, he creates a contest. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a David Hale type come to the club. Hale is at the end of his career but still playing useful footy in the forward line and commanding a place in the Hawthorn team. He would help buy some time and provide some guidance for our developing forward line. Once again, he isn't the messiah but would definitely help straighten us up and provide another big contest on our forward line and pinch hit in the ruck for big Stefan.

I hope we are trying to pick the eyes out of the Hawks in particular Jed Anderson and Will Langford. We should be offering some fat money, probably twice what they are getting paid at the Hawks.

I've suggested Hale a few times. We'd only get a year out of him but he's a big experienced target

Ben Lennon is out of contract and showed some good signs late this year.
If Redden still wants out is there a way we could work him into the trade?? Would be a very handy 3rd leading tall once he matures! Possibly even a big bodied mid!
UTG already posted this as a straight swap...

Clearly never going to happen.

I'll take that deal. Lennon is a pretty decent set shot/contested mark and can be added into midfield once he improves endurance. Another goal kicking future mid, happy with that.

Both are on 3-4 year extensions.

Anderson got looked after by Hawks when he was injured early. considering he has a young family, these things always leave a mark - he'll be hard to get.

Will - his brother just got drafted there and he signed another 3 years.

The alleged plan to get jake k and eventually kade k was sound - didn't work out, I think jake signed with cats again.

Rory Thompson would've been nice - missed out on that.

We should look at Jake barrett from GWS - could be another Anthony Miles.

My latest impressions of Hale are that he's really slowed. 12 months ago, I'd have been quite keen. But, the last half a season, he just looks like he's dropped in pace and agility and, as a result, is having trouble influencing games on a regular basis.

Edit: has kicked 5 goals in his last 10 games.

Also Cam Ellis-Yolmen. Been out of favour with the new coach. Contested ball winner.

Would be happy with any of Ellis-Yolmen, jake Barrett, Jed Anderson.

Wouldn't mind us taking a look at Mason Shaw or Sam Dwyer as DFA's but both very speculative. Dwyer might be an upgrade on ZOB on the rookie list.

Quite a few talented players out of contract that would be nice to shake loose as well.

He is still developing taken in the 2013 Draft at pick 12 I think, plenty of upside, considering Richmond's Midfield depth not to surprised he hasn't had to many opportunities as yet.

I would not be disappointed if it was a clean swap

Isn't Dawes contracted for another year at $500k? He'd fit our needs as we do need that mature stop gap forward whilst the kids develop but I'd rather we target options which are cheaper in both salary and trade terms and I guess ones that have more upside. Not really a fan. He's also had a fair share of injury issues over the last few years, plus from memory when we did express interest three years ago he didn't want to move out of Melbourne. If I had to choose between Dawes and Casboult I'd take Casboult.

He barely averages four marks a game and half a goal a game, with one contested mark a game after 9 years in the system. It's been the same with a quality midfield or a shit one.

He doesn't run hard enough to be a CHF or get enough possessions and marks. He doesn't really draw defenders because he isn't perceived as a threat, he's too short to chop out in the ruck and he isn't a goal threat close to goal. I don't think Chris Dawes does ANYTHING that we need from a mature forward to take the pressure off our young ones. I think if he has one year left on his contract he is playing for a future in the AFL and we definitely shouldn't be offering him an extra year or two in the game at the highest level based on what he has shown so far.
