He barely averages four marks a game and half a goal a game, with one contested mark a game after 9 years in the system. It's been the same with a quality midfield or a shit one.

He doesn't run hard enough to be a CHF or get enough possessions and marks. He doesn't really draw defenders because he isn't perceived as a threat, he's too short to chop out in the ruck and he isn't a goal threat close to goal. I don't think Chris Dawes does ANYTHING that we need from a mature forward to take the pressure off our young ones. I think if he has one year left on his contract he is playing for a future in the AFL and we definitely shouldn't be offering him an extra year or two in the game at the highest level based on what he has shown so far.
strongly agree. not worth it, freeman close macstay give you a contest just as good as dawes if not better and he has 10 years on them. i cant think of anyone besides casboult (of those that have been rumored) that would be worth a try.

Had a little chuckle on twitter. A port fan is claiming Charlie Dixon is only worth a 2nd rounder and steak knives. Never mind they'll be paying him big coin. That is why we were going to use the PSD to get big Charlie.

Very much in agreeance,as we say in Spring St. Dawes couldn't get a kick in a stampede,as my dad would say. We may as well play Benny Hudson...at least the passion would be there! Hale was a very smart and skilled player, and has been expertly managed by the Hawks. However, his time is all but over ,and he has some difficulty getting out there in successive matches. I doubt he could give us more than half a season...if he could be bothered.I am pleased to accept that we are after real talent,as per last year. Not the likes of Dawes, Howe etc. Agree ,play the very talented kids we are rapidly accruing. Can't wait to see kids like Schache ,Keays and co. who have maroon and blue in their veins....not the diluted dregs of failure.

$450,000 must be the number Sydney asked for.

If that money is for Leuey, and the contract is for three years or more, then I think that'd work out to band 3 compo. That would mean a pick after our second rounder or 22 (I think?) before any other FA compo picks (like Dangerfield) are awarded.

That'd be a good result. Particularly as we can use it to match bids on Hipwood and Keays and hopefully keep ourselves alive in the later rounds of the draft.

Leuey's injury record would make it hard for us to get much more for him.

But midfielder Tom Bell remains determined to be traded to the Brisbane Lions, even if he has not yet formally told the club of his wishes.

He will wait until Brisbane’s draft position is clearer, with the Lions hopeful of luring him north with a second-round pick.

They need to secure that selection first, given many of their selections will be taken up on securing Queensland academy selections.

My understanding is they can only trade 1 player up to $450K over the average wage threshold. That player will be Lewis Jetta it seems so they can't trade Tippett if they trade Jetta.

This of course is a changeable rule it seems so maybe wait a week :D
They can only trade 1 player in for that money, out is ok.

My latest impressions of Hale are that he's really slowed. 12 months ago, I'd have been quite keen. But, the last half a season, he just looks like he's dropped in pace and agility and, as a result, is having trouble influencing games on a regular basis.

Edit: has kicked 5 goals in his last 10 games.
Still commanding a spot in a Hawthorn team competing in the final whilst Ceglar and Spangher wallow in the 2s.

Cameron Giles delisted by the Blues. Definitely worth a look as he was rated the best Key Defender in 2013 draft IIRC. Injuries have hampered him a bit but worth a rookie spot.

I would have thought that sort of money would be closer to band 2.

Gardiner was rated the best defender in the 2013 draft unless you mean stopping defender on doesn't provide run

Ceglar's a ruck who can't play forward and Spangher's a defender (mostly) who can't ruck.

Are you disputing my assessment of his form since about round 12? I don't pretend to watch every Hawks game but he has not been particularly effective in the ones I've seen, particularly when playing up forward. It looks like he's on the decline to me. That doesn't auger well for the near future.
