My latest impressions of Hale are that he's really slowed. 12 months ago, I'd have been quite keen. But, the last half a season, he just looks like he's dropped in pace and agility and, as a result, is having trouble influencing games on a regular basis.

Edit: has kicked 5 goals in his last 10 games.
Those goal stats aren't very inspiring TBH. I didn't really look at how he has been going of late I just thought he might be a cheap option plus he is a QLD product. That said if he is really past it we may as well not bother.

I think it was a Geelong fan that came in here and was telling us that we were linked to a midfielder from Geelong nicknamed the Extractor?
Yeah I recall. He just appeared and vanished without giving us any indication as to who the Extractor was. Jansen looks like a big bodied inside mid so I guess that's him? Redden replacement?

$450,000 must be the number Sydney asked for.

If that money is for Leuey, and the contract is for three years or more, then I think that'd work out to band 3 compo. That would mean a pick after our second rounder or 22 (I think?) before any other FA compo picks (like Dangerfield) are awarded.

That'd be a good result. Particularly as we can use it to match bids on Hipwood and Keays and hopefully keep ourselves alive in the later rounds of the draft.

Leuey's injury record would make it hard for us to get much more for him.
On the surface it's a good result, because it helps with our academy selections this year but in retrospect he was pick 4 in the '06 draft... Not saying that instantly means we should be better compensated but yeah... ouch

Still commanding a spot in a Hawthorn team competing in the final whilst Ceglar and Spangher wallow in the 2s.
Like a number of mature options, if we were in the top 8 and without any depth in that position, then a punt to make us stronger in the finals might be worthwhile, but we aren't.
I can't see the point of paying big money (and the likes of Hale and Schulz will command good $$$) when all they'll do is take up a spot and make us only marginally more competitive. I agree that being competitive is important for development, but at the stage we're at, I think these sort of players are counter productive. They stunt the growth of lads we want coming along in a couple of years time.
I wouldn't even want a Hodge or Mitchell type/age. Great players, but we aren't trying to win a prize next year, we're trying to build.

I know he would never come realistically, I was just saying it because even in a losing team he is still having a big impact. A you guys said money probably isn't the issue (will get 800,000+ I would have thought) and he wouldn't move unless it was to home.

Cameron Giles delisted by the Blues. Definitely worth a look as he was rated the best Key Defender in 2013 draft IIRC. Injuries have hampered him a bit but worth a rookie spot.
I was very keen on this guy in the 2013 Draft .... had him at #4 on my "Big Board" (behind Boyd, Scharenberg & Sheed).
Certainly worth looking at, so long as he is over the persistent foot problems that restricted him in his 2 seasons with Carlton.

As the picks fell on the night, I was disappointed when we took Aish (#7) ahead of Sheed (and I have seen nothing since that has changed that), and even more so when we took Gardiner (at #22) ahead of Giles, but I haven't regretted that pick since (given how things have panned out).

As I recall it, I thought Giles was BOG for Woodville/West Torrens in the SANFL u18 Grand Final in 2013.

Here is a clip I saved of Giles pre-Draft 2013 ..... see for yourself:

Cameron Giles
#31 for South Australia
#20 for Woodville/West Torrens

Listed as 195cm / 93kg at the 2013 Combine
Player comments were:
"Tall defender who is quick and agile and has a big endurance base. Spots up his kicks well and rebounded effectively during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, which was impressive given this season is his first in defence having previously played as a tall forward and ruckman. Generally makes good decisions with the ball in hand."

(Listed as same Hgt/Wgt on Carlton Player Listings ..... but probably never amended from time of Draft)
