I was very keen on this guy in the 2013 Draft .... had him at #4 on my "Big Board" (behind Boyd, Scharenberg & Sheed).
Certainly worth looking at, so long as he is over the persistent foot problems that restricted him in his 2 seasons with Carlton.

As the picks fell on the night, I was disappointed when we took Aish (#7) ahead of Sheed (and I have seen nothing since that has changed that), and even more so when we took Gardiner (at #22) ahead of Giles, but I haven't regretted that pick since (given how things have panned out).

As I recall it, I thought Giles was BOG for Woodville/West Torrens in the SANFL u18 Grand Final in 2013.

Here is a clip I saved of Giles pre-Draft 2013 ..... see for yourself:

Cameron Giles
#31 for South Australia
#20 for Woodville/West Torrens

Looks good back then but delisted by the Blues who are severely lacking in key defenders is a worry. Might not have passed medicals on his foot possibly? Apparently it is the same injury that Trengrove from the Demons has got and those type of injuries have a high chance to reoccur again. Still I think it is worth a punt in the rookie draft especially since Goose is gone and Merrett will most likely follow next season.

Crusha just saw your other YouTube videos... Jansen vid uploaded a week ago huh? You got inside word on possible trade targets as TBD earlier today thought Jensen leaving the Cats for more opportunity was interesting... Kinda hinted at something

We are definitely into Jansen since early in the year. Can confirm that

If he can produce goals like this at senior level he would be a welcome addition! Wow that second goal with the strong stoppage work and link up play beforehand was very impressive.

I would not touch him or waste a pick on him.

Has been very average in the VFL.

If we are going to target players, it's Cam Ellis-Yolmen for me. Out of contract, Fallen out of favour with the new coach and would slot in to replace Redden straight away. Would get him cheap as chips (Salary and trade wise).

Cam Ellis-Yolmen
Age: 22yr 7mth Height: 189cm Weight: 94kg

You've made the same point about Ellis-Yolmen and backed it up with stats several times. We get it. You want him at the club. Ffs you've made your point.

Comments like "If he can produce goals like this at senior level he would be a welcome addition!", paints a false perception of a player based on potential. That's why I back my comments with stats. It gives other readers the capability to conclude for themselves about that player, based on the data presented.

That's all. it's nothing personal.

I wonder how undesirable we are with players. It could make it hard when trading. We won't want to bring in only picks this year. We need depth and to have good competition for spots. Players we approach should be able to see upside and opportunity with us that's for sure.

Surely stats are just as misleading. And quoting subjective VFL player ratings from Inside Football is even worse.
So instead of examining the stats and player ratings we should formulate a conclusion based on a 30 sec highlight youtube video of Jared Jansen and then conclude he has potential to be in our best 22. Is that what you are saying.

Hmm. Not too sure he's out of favour. Looks as though he just went through a rough patch and lost a bit of form - could be injured-related? Based on the stats you've given us and from what I've seen of him, he should be right in contention for their best 22 next season. He's solid.

Crows supporters quotes:

"Bit of talk on AA that CEY is unhappy at the Crows at the moment after going from being played under Walsh and not under Campo. There has been talk for awhile that CEY doesnt like him.
Anyway, he is uncontracted at the end of the year and might be looking for a trade. We have a few players of his type and most expect one of them to be traded. He has a brother on the Gold Coast so maybe a trade to either Brisbane or GC could happen. Value might be a second rounder or part of a bigger trade."

"He wasn't injured. Campo decided to drop him after the Eagles game because he played as the sub two weeks in a row prior or some rubbish excuse like that, and despite playing well in the SANFL (responded from the drop with 38 touches), he hasn't even had another look-in. Reminds me of Sando, ignoring performing youngsters while rushing to recall vanilla players like van Berlo and Mackay and persisting with Wright for so long."

Interesting.

I just get the feeling with Danger and potentially a few others leaving, he'll have his chance. Just too good to be lurking around the SANFL. Plus, Sub-rule is gone next year anyway, so that will most definitely help his cause.

It is a bit of a joke that 2nd year players are wanting out because they are not getting opportunities. It is called development FFS. No harm in doing a few years in the ressies. Also I am tired of players being worth less because they are out of contract. That is simply bullshit IMO.

I have no hesitation in bringing in any player (bar Dawes) that we have mentioned on here, Bell, Casboult, CYE and Jansen as long as our recruiting team does their due diligence and for the right price. You would expect a mix of draftees and trades to occur this off season with up to 8 new faces so they have to come from somewhere and we already have a very young list with the loss of some very experienced players. I don't think some here should be so quick to judge some of these players mentioned as history has shown that a new club can be a good thing. Plus we are a very small team body wise and all of those mentioned are bigger bodied.

Why though?

He's 22 years of age, 189cm, 94 kg contested ball winner. He fits the age of the list and will cost us nothing. Likely will be part of the second tier midfielders supporting Zorko, Hanley, Rockliff, Beams and Robinson. He has already proven that he can complete at the level and is a good kick. He's a viable option for those who don't want Bell.

I would be encouraging him to go to the PSD where we should select him. He will be in our best 22 and would allow Beams to push forward more and be damaging, rather then get battered doing all the grunt work.

These are all fair points I think. Everyone will have their preferences about known players and most on here are probably happy to admit that the club got Robbo right this year, against quite a few predictions. The same could be true with any new trades. Everything about trading and drafting is subject to circumstances only some of which can be predicted. I can recall someone two years ago saying on a main forum somewhere that O'Meara would be the next superstar (and he still might) but injury, loss of form, loss of desire to play, many many things can go wrong with players, whether new or experienced. Equally, just as many things can go right. If it was an exact science, then scientists would be running footy club lists. With all the fancy Moneyball data and expertise around, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get a player you think can add something good.

Having said all that, I do also agree about Dawes. I don't think he would add enough.

He's not arguing against bringing him in. He's saying we won't get the chance.

I can't see how West Coast satisfies us for Redden, so he could go to Adelaide.

We have pick 2 in the PSD. We can guarantee Cam more game time. If we can get him for nothing, then why not. He's uncontracted after all. Also would not cost anything bar a 3rd or 4th round pick. We can at least package up a 3rd or 4th round pick with Redden to get Adelaide's pick 14 and CEY.

I understand he might get more chances with Dangerfield leaving, but at the same time they have the Crouch Brothers who will likely get an opportunity before he does.

No. I am happy to take on the advice of those who have, you know, actually seen him play. I've got a huge amount of time for Crusha as a junior footy observer and judge of talent. The bloke takes the time to package together video of young blokes and those videos try and give a balanced view of the player. He knows his stuff because he does his research.

In contrast, I find the faux experts at this time of year quite annoying. You know the ones - finding snippets of information posted by others and passing them off as their own. Pretending that reading the D&T board gives them some sort of lofty insight.

Writing off a player as a trade target when you clearly have never seen him before is really quite dismissive of those knowledgeable enough to form a view.

As a restricted free agent, Adelaide star Dangerfield, 25, will now have to wait to see if the Crows match Geelong’s offer.

If they do and he still wants to leave, Dangerfield would be forced to take his chances in the pre-season draft, where one of the eight teams that finished below the Cats would almost certainly take him.
How dumb is Jon Anderson?

If the Crows match the offer they can still trade him he doesn't have to go into the PSD. How does this shit get published.

They should match it as well. Geelong would then have to trade at least their first rounder which is better than the compensation the Crows would get.
