I'm a little nervous about Bell. Unlike Robinson, we'd be getting him when his value is highest. Trading a pick in the early 20s would have been crazy six months ago, and might seem crazy again in a year.

With Redden and Aish most likely leaving, I'd hope we could get back a pick closer to #30 as a sweetener in whatever deal we can do, and on trade that to the Blues.

Bell is a mid second round pick. We'll probably end up with another teams to use as the trade period continues. No way we use our early 2nd round pick on him.

(disclaimer: Donkey is not real, life-sized or living. Donkey is a virtual donkey and only exists in the world of imagination and fantasy, where shiny donkeys roam free, every Lions player wins a Brownlow, Simon Black is permanently at the peak of his career and Eddie Maguire is a mere game show host.

It's a wonderful place. A wonderful, wonderful place. You should come visit.)

Greg Swann interview for those interested:

Guess we weren't the only ones to assume Aish was definitely gone:
"I suppose we may have misread it early that because he didn't sign, we automatically assumed he was going, but in having some discussions with him, I think he is still considering the options he's got."

There are other teams?
Without knowing the negotiations and trade strategies I would be happy with a trade/draft period that netted us Schache, Keays, Hipwood and Bell plus one, maybe two others and some rookies. Assuming we lost Leuey, Redden and Aish along with delistings and retirees, I think we might upgrade one or two as well to end up all square numbers-wise.

For me, Schache, Keays and Hipwood are the three that build on the last couple of drafts in a fairly strategic way. Everything else is frosting in the long term but could be useful in the short term. Although I also do have a good feeling about Bell. It would be nice if another academy boy was to fall to the rookie draft as a bonus.

Just on this, I know a few Geelong fans who mentioned that he's been played in different positions at VFL level to aid his development (especially his outside game), similar to what we did with Mayes. If you look at the InsideFooty snippet, he's been played as a deep leading forward as well as across half forward especially later in the season.

I don't want to miss out on a another Tommy Cutler or a Daniel McStay. Players do slide down the draft order. We can always pick up a another Bell with a late pick. Hell Adam Saad was a rookie pick.

I hope foe Bell's sake he has a lot of improvement left in him.
Any picks in the 20s that we take to the draft are likely to be downgraded as part of picking up Hipwood and Keays. In effect we might be trading away a pick in the 30s or 40s depending upon what picks we have and who bids.

Heard that too. Could be the other one Swann is talking about. Out of contract, unrestricted free agent.
He was a gun in 2012 before doing his knee. Would be a good pick up for you guys and I'll be sad to see him go.

Is also a terrific bloke and ultra professional in the way he goes about it.

Completely agree, would fit in well for sure. In pretty good form at the moment at VFL level (if we ignore that kick just then :p) and still only 25.

His name has been raised a few times on this forum the last couple of years. He has plenty of fans here.

With Adcock and probably Redden going the timing would be good for us.

There is a danger though in recruiting too many players with injury problems.

The strange thing was before the knees he was so durable. This year he had a shoulder knock early on but has been fit all season so hopefully the worst of his run with injuries are behind him.
