What if one does an ACL, one stagnates and the other's back has issues and we're stuck playing a first year KPF as the sole anchor in our forward line?

He's really not a bad player IMO. I posted something on the SC threads earlier this year about him needing a mentor and having a lot to work with. Would be happy to have him.
Happened this year pretty much, so makes no difference. Hopefully Hammelmann can add aome weight and Paine is fit. No use chasing list cloggers like Casboult. Carlton also screaming out for a Tall Forward and getting rid of him. Ask the question why ?

With pick 17 I would like Daniel Rioli and I want the AFL to finally acknowledge the struggles and extreme hardship Fitzroy and now Brisbane are experiencing and give us pick 3 (as leuy compo) so we can take Francis. WE DESERVE IT !!!!!

Okay, cool. This year was awesome.

More faith in Casboult than either of them. What exactly about Casboult's game do you find so poor? Aside from inaccurate goal kicking which while unimpressive has shown signs of improvement.

I think we have Freeman to play a similar role to Casboult. He could easily kick 1.5 goals a game. Close, McStay and Paine can also play as marking forwards. Casboult would be nice but I wouldn't give much for him.

I'd put money on next year being Jackson Paine's last season in the AFL (and that's only because he's contracted). Current return of 12 games and 11 goals from 4 seasons isn't exactly the kind of player to pin your hopes on.

I'd take Levi Casboult to fill the roll until one of the players yet to show they can do it push him out.

Aish could nominate for the National draft and not necessarily end up at Carlton.... But that would be too risky for Aish.... Could end up at GWS which he won't want.

Only way Carlton would consider a pick like that for both players is because Brisbane have promised not to trade Aish to Collingwater.

Master stroke from the club if they can pull this off.
They hit home the point to newbies entering the club that you won't get to where you want if you screw us..... And we get Bell and Casboult for a pick in the 20's and a spoilt kid who may or may not come on.
Would be so good if Carlton/Brisbane arrange this deal.

Carlton obviously win as it is effectively Casboult & Bell for 21 and Aish.
Brisbane win in the sense that they get Casboult & Bell for unders, while still sending their message.
And Collingwood get screwed :)

Would Aish nominating for the ND be that risky though? I mean if he and his manager just categorically told every club that Aish does not want to play for them, then to be honest i don't think any club would pick him. Thats the way it seems to go these days.

Thats only if the forwards go down as a last resort and if that happens then be moving them on at seasons end. Also would be bottom 4 again.

Just read the last few pages of the Carlton trade thread, was a good read actually, they get along like a house on fire over there - they seem to discuss weitering as an absolute lock, even whilst discussing a casboult trade. I know they arnt the be all and end all, but I didn't see schache mentioned at all, it seem weitering is simply too good to pass up in their view. I sure as hell don't want him, he will leave after 2 years, schache more likely we can hold onto him. I still feel we can get him and the boult.
Schache and Boult...would be a good shake up to your forward line. Then McStay can be third tall.

Yep it seems we are hellbent on getting Weitering...although this could be another little 'agreement' between the two sides in that we take Weitering and you taking Schache? Who knows.

Id be surprised if we let Casboult go given we have basically no KPF's and Casboult really improved this year...seems ready for a bit next year.
However, there are whispers we may be doing it and ontrading the pick we get from you to GWS for Tomlinson, who would fill Casboult's shoes up forward.

Not disagreeing about not giving much up for Casboult, but two things to consider is that he actually had above average accuracy in terms of kicking for goal this year, improved drastically with a new technique. Also, he is quite good at being the pinch hitting ruckman, not sure who else would do that role at Brissy.

Your pick weird bandwagons, SizeMatters . He doesn't fill a need and is contracted. Regardless of the good stuff he's done I feel like he's the sort of player you bring in on the last day of trades if you're got more change in the bank than you anticipated.
theteamtobeat has me covered easily with jumping onto bandwagons :D

Seriously though, I think he would be good cover for Redden. I don't buy into the Bell replaces Redden talk as Bell was more a flanker that played stints in the midfield and his contested possession and tackle counts are low. He only averaged 2.5 clearances a game and less than 8 CP and 4 tackles. Not sure on Bastinacs stats but historically he has shown an ability to play inside effectively and also provide great run and carry on the outside.

The thing you have to understand is that Casboult is a forward ruck. West is 29 and next season is going to be his last season. We need a player that can pinch hit in the ruck and play forward, hence that's why we got rid of Leuy. McStay will be the swingman, Schache, Freeman, Close will be competing for the FF and CHF spots. Plus we will be developing Hipwood to play in all areas as a utility.

I agree with you, Bell doesn't directly cover Redden but I'm not sure we're getting him to do that. I'm kinda hoping Keays can fill the Redden role but might a bit too much to expect from a first year player but probably not so much that we need to spend another second rounder on another trade. I think for team balance Bell has a lot more to offer us. Those stats do seem quite low based on watching him this year but his outside work and running combined with what seems like a relatively effective inside game from the eye make me confident he'll be a very handy acquisition.

We got absolutely trounced this year up forward, no presence at all, all the midfield output meant nothing in the end

Casboult, at worst, draws a contest better then any of our young kids could. Chuck in dangerous players like Zorko, Green and Christensen under him, see how much manage we can do.

Casboult would finally give us some forward structure, would be awesome.

Don't worry, Bastinac isn't coming to us. Talk is he might be going to Melbourne for Howe.
