Can someone actually confirm it wasn't a typo on The Age?

How is it even possible to grab two good players with one second rounder? Can't say I have ever seen that happen before.
Someone mentioned that the author of the article was on radio and confirmed it *was* a typo.

I think given we're already in negotiations for bell it might be easy for us to package cas in.

Remember Freo are linked to every single KPP who might be traded
Freo will be the end of Cas if he goes there. Stagnant, patchy entry and the absolute need to be a good defender, he will perish in their system. Cas doesn't make something happen 'every time' even if it's crashing a pack, he does 'some' great things, sometimes.. if that makes sense? He won't work at Freo IMO.

My view is that if Carlton are prepared to do such a deal, then perhaps they are not "two good players".
There's logic in that, but bear in mind that Carlton have also done a deal on Betts and delisted Robinson in recent years (ie it's not beyond them to get it wrong), the willingness to relinquish Bell seems to be at least partly a compassionate thing, and they are also at a real transition point with a new coach.

I read some Carlton Supporters justifying the club's position and it went a little something like this..

on their own -

Casboult would be worth about a pick 40
Bell would be about a pick 30

if you consider redden is a 17 and christiansen went at 21.. it seems about right, Cas might go higher to a needs based team.

Plus given Bells situation there is perhaps a further discount on the deal, so if you had pick 30 and 40 (their equivalent value) you wouldn't be too shocked at trading those 2 for a pick upgrade to 21 (the draft is weak - GWS would probley value 21 higher than 2 later picks). Some said a later pick swap made more sense, but I agree, It seems to be a massive win for us if it happens.

Obviously someone at Carlton doesen't rate Casboult (if this goes through) they either view him as a bad character or they think there is not much room left to improve, or SOS is so set on these GWS kids he will do what ever it takes to get that pick. They obviously want a lot of turnover like the saints 2 years ago, we might benefit from this. or.. its all BS and someone just assumed that pick made sense and it's way off the mark.

How much longer till we find out what compo we got for Luey?
The club has three days to match the offer or not. Prior to that I believe they can ask what compo they will receive to help their decision (which is what makes West Coast's outrage so odd). The AFL won't publish the compo until the club makes a call one way or the other.

Yeah that seems very strange from West Coast, didn't realise they were told what the compo would be before they choose to match the offer or not.

Actually it was Kennedy & McGlynn for 39, 46 & 70.

39 = Grimley
46= Stratton
70 = rookie promotion for Matt Suckling.

Absolute steal.
Swans obviously won that trade, but Hawthorn still did ok aswell actually. Stratton has been super consistent and Suckling gave the hawks a few good years too.

Does Casboult know how to play as a forward though? Seems to me he just relies on being a huge key forward and relying on taking big marks. He also offers little defensive pressure which is another big issue with our forward line. If Freeman can't get to same level of as Casboult this season we might as well give up on him.

He'd be handy but he's not worth a top 25 draft pick.
Sometimes. His goal kicikng has improved and he seems to have more games where he isn't terrible. Still lacks awareness and probably always will. Look, he can take a good contested mark and will have some games where he looks like dominating but rarely delivers. Will never be more than below average. Giving up more than a 3rd round pick or equivalent would be a mistake.
"That is just not the player that Levi is though, unfortunately. He is not a magnet type Power Forward. He doesn't get involved in enough contests.

He just generally doesn't do enough of anything other than take some magnificent looking strong marks now and then.

He doesn't get it enough. He doesn't pressure enough on the way out. He doesn't direct the forward line enough. He doesn't tackle enough. He doesn't contribute to goals/scores enough.

And god help him if his improved converting was only temporary good fortune. He did improve it the 2nd half of this season. But it is still hard to have confidence in that action."

The above is a quote from a Carlton supporter on the main board that sums up how I feel about Casboult. For mine, he doesn't get involved enough, seems to take one or two big grabs and then disappear for the rest of the game. Is barely sighted with defensive pressure and seems quite lumbering/slow. I understand that our KPF cupboard is bare in terms of mature bodies, but I can't get excited about giving away a top 25 pick for him & Bell. Just feel like it's a move backwards at that price.

Generally strong teams are built on the back of 2-3 really strong drafts in consecutive years and then topped up with trading. I think the '13 crop of 6 (originally 7, I have minused Aish)(maybe add Jansen as well), McGrath & Andrews last year plus this years crop of Schache, Keays, Hipwood could be our building blocks for a very strong future. Id like to have another top 25 youngster amongst that group. Particularly in a weak draft year.

Happy to get Bell & Casboult for any amount of picks outside of that top 25. Just would prefer if we didn't overpay.
My thoughts exactly. Doesn't do enough and probably never will. Stop gap at best.

Hey guys! I know its a done deal but i heard from jansens grandparents who i look after that his just moved all his stuff up too brissy and keen to start with leppa. Really hope he pays off for you guys.
Yeah Leppa and Chris Scott would have shaken hands on this one ages ago. Might need to wait out on the result of other trades and therefore might be officially signed off late, but it's not going to cause anyone any stress.

I get that he adds a mature body to our forward line which would aid the development of McStay, Freeman and Schache considerably.

My concern is more about overpaying for him and where he is rated as a footballer. If you look at Chris Dawes now, I think it's not a bad comparison to fast forward 3 years and expect to see Casboult in the same position.

Happy to get him, on the basis that we don't overpay by giving up a top 25 pick.
Let's be honest Casboult is already a better player than Dawes
