Happy with Walker. Good get. We simply can't rely on Freeman/Schache/McStay. Whilst that combo might work in 5 years (McStay probably stronger down back however) we need someone like Walker to be our #1 target now.
What about Close, everyone seems to forget about him. Does Walker in confirm Paine will be delisted?

I think with the increased player movement. We might see Brisbane being this active in trade week to be the norm. Trrade out second and third round picks for guys that are a few years into the system, have shown promise and look like they can improve but are happy to come to Brisbane to ply their trade. Bundled up with some first round quality academy kids it could just be a pretty good strategy.
I think its the only way.

I think he could make a really good CHB if he is developed that way. Time will tell. Out of Mcstay, Freeman, Schache and Close, I'd say Close is the least likely to make it as a KPF but most likely to transition as a defender. Mcstay imo is a pure swing man/utility type player who would never be the number 1 back or forward, but we wouldn't want him to be!

If we land Bastinac then maybe we are a chance of playing finals in the NEAFL.
There's nothing wrong with competition for spots, not every addition has to be a star. If Bastinac gives us quality than good, if another midfielder is playing better football and takes his spot, super. At least guys aren't getting games by default.

So you are going to play 4 talls that are 195cm+ in our back line. I know Paparone is 194cm, but he's a running machine.
If its being too tall thats the worry he would take Merrett's spot, he is 31 next year. Astbury will be 25, we can start to get a backline playing together that can build some continuity for the future.

It was a joke, lol. I reckon Bastinac is pretty decend player. Has a good inside and outside game. Besides Beams, Zorko and Christensen, we don't have a balanced midfielder who can play both inside and out. Also uses the ball well by foot and hand.

You don't take Merrett out because his 31. Merrett organises our backline, mentors Andrews, Clarke and rest of our young defenders. Far as I'm concerned Astbury is depth. Astbury needs to stay injury free and earn his spot. Hasn't done much in the AFL and I hope he takes this chance to push Merrett out of the side through form, not age.

I think Leppa would be hoping he finds that early 2014 form and becomes a leader down back, to take over from Merrett. Richmond really rate him high and he has some leadership qualities.

In that age article a couple of pages back it talks about ongoing discussions between us, Richmond and Carlton about engineering a trade to get Yarran to the Tigers, Bell and Astbury to Brisbane & More Draft picks to Carlton.

Being discussed that it would be engineered to look something like this:

Brisbane Lose: Pick 21
Brisbane Gain: Bell & Astbury

Carlton Lose: Yarran, Bell
Carlton Gain: Pick 21 + pick 31

Richmond Lose: Pick 31 + Astbury
Richmond Gain: Yarran

Probably a good outcome for us in the end I'd think. Just makes it imperative to two early second rounders before 30 for Aish.

Bastinac averaged 21 touches and a goal a game (20 overall) a few years ago.

Not the walking spud that he is being claimed to be, still young and a change of scenery can do wonders.

Not saying he is going to be a superstar but don't discount just yet.

Not bad for us if correct. Couldn't see Carlton taking that deal though. You never know though

Sub in pick17 instead of 21 and you might be close. Carlton has insisted on a first round pick and 17 gives them that.

Not sure how we can get Bastinac and both academy boys though in that case, unless we get something good from Aish trade.

More likely to be our pick 17 if we are gaining Bell and Astbury I reckon.
