I think we need to consider cashing in on Birchall. He hasn't had a great year and defensively is becoming a liability.

Still has currency.
We have one of the slowest back lines in the league and Birchall is the sole person who provides run and accurate kicking. Take him out and we will rely soley on our wingers to push deep and provide run. Birchall has suffered with suckling being moved out of defence. We should keep Birchall and recruit another defender who can run, kick and defend.

Good player, but no greater then any others. Has had a horrible year. Not likely great for our tassie fans tho.

This year to me feels a lot like 2009, despite finishing 3rd, being premiership favorites until now, and destroying teams in patches throughout the year.

I feel like we've put faith in players rather then the team, hoping they'll perform, backing them in etc.

I loved the ruthlessness of 2013 come selection, felt it kept us motivated, desperate to perform.

I haven't seen Hawthorn look desperate to perform this year. Players in isolation, like Cyril's 1st quarter Friday night, yes.

It's obviously a huge challenge to renovate a b2b list, but I think it's the act of renovating that got it there, not the renovations themselves.

This is a long way of saying, yes, I think we should be open to trading Birchall, and anyone else who doesn't fill a vital role.

We have him, and should have been played since about round 5 in place of Suckling.
Litherland
He needs continuous AFL games, and wouldn't have been half as bad as Suckers

Suckling consistently getting games, and using Frawley as a swing man really irritate me

He's getting thrown out of his club, multiple breeches, already has a strike to his name which known by all clubs....Do you think clubs are going to risk a top 10 pick on this which in all reality is what he's worth in terms of talent. GC bargaining power has gone out the window after his last indiscretion... once Bennell chooses his club of choice...they don't have anywhere to go.
Gee, a club with the choice between Hill and Bennell would go hill every time

Please,
suckling has been pretty good this year. He looks taller and stronger. Has been in a ton more contests, has done well in them, and looks our best link-up player at the moment.

Not at all, I've never been a fan, but while the team has been playing indifferent footy, he's had a crack.

He's not Durea hard at the ball, but in a contest this year, suckling has been better then Hill by a mile, and better then Birchall too I reckon

WE do have Litherland who is quick, can run and defend.....but can't kick. It has to be the reason why he can't get a game.
Our disposal was deplorable a couple of nights ago. Litherland would not have helped in that regard.

Pfft apart from a bit of a purple patch leading up to the Port game he's been a liability this season.

One of the consistent themes in our loses is that Suckling is exposed defensively and his poor disposal in our defensive 50 has led directly to opposition goals.

I will be thrilled if another team picks him up as a FA.

Exactly.
People wanting to trade Birchall?

Birch is our glue in the backline and one of the best rebounders who's ever played. He links the backline together, and provides run and long kicking to the forward line.
He's proved himself in 3 Grand Finals.

You may want to find another scapegoat.

I don't think we have any scapegoats. (Maybe hill if he doesn't turn it around)

But, the list, like all lists, needs new blood

If we're going to prune our list and encourage growth (as we should), then we should prune players that aren't vital, and that we have replacements for.

Ie, halfback flankers.

Well this thread has jumped the shark based off one off night.

Our off season focus should be on winning the 2016 flag.

Really? I watch every game, we haven't been interested since the Freo/Sydney games. Before then? We've played Harlem globetrotter footy, and either smashed teams, or given up games we should have won.

Maybe it's the draw and playing weak teams (Richmond/port for top 2??)

Maybe it's because we've played in the last 3gf's,

Maybe it's training loads.

It doesn't matter,
The team, and all teams, need fresh enthusiastic competition for spots

yet we've won 12 of our last 15, are 8-3 with a percentage of around 145 against the other finalists and have the most points for and least against, while our seconds finished on top and are game off their 3 straight GF

Clearly off that we should be trading out AA premiership players for draft picks.
