It would be a terrible idea to make and offer for J Grant.
He can't kick straight and goes missing.
Can take a mark though. Just set him up on the forward 50, mark ball, handpass to smith/suckers (if still there)/hodge/lake/schoey/gunston from long range

True, hard to argue. Would like him, though the baggage worries me.

I'm still hoping Jed will be that player, but on exposed form, Bennell has the runs on the board
Jed is a very different player to Harley. Jed is a contested playing, more inside with flashes of outside. Harley is more outside with flashes of inside. Be great to have both on the list next season though.

Different personality too. Jed seems ridiculously level headed for a young bloke...Bennell on the other hand....

Was an end of season game - with Kennedy running at goal ponsford end and Buddy screaming for the ball so Kennedy who has a clear shot gives it.
Cant quite remeber but I think the handball was slightly behind Buddy who spilled it or did he get the shot?
Riley Milne and a few other youngins were playing that day.
Your description sounds like the Geelong game from either 2009 or 2010 where Bartel kicked the point after the siren, was at the game behind the goals and it happened right in front of us, Kennedy had space and could have kicked the goal but Buddy got in front of him and called for it, Kennedy gave it to him but the handball missed or Buddy got pressured off the ball (one of the other) Geelong went up the other end and the footy eventually ended up with Bartel who kicked the point to win the game

We need a player like Bennell
It's so obvious
I really hope it happens
Again, Hill has class too, just struggling to move from fresh face to senior mover and shaker

If I Was a recruiter, Id think that Hill overcoming his problems is a damn sight easier than bennell overcoming his

I think a similar Buddy incident damaged Josh Kennedys career with us.
Yeah I remember that game Kennedy was about 35 out directly in front running with the ball in clear traffic and Buddy demanded a Joe the goose handball, got it and then was tackled. (wasn't that the Essendon game, I know it was on the city side of ground, running away from the MCC side of the ground).

In fact Kennedy did that a number of times.

I had an Essendon game in my mind.

Our midfield on the weekend looked stale and workmanlike.....that is when Cyril was resting in the forward line.

We are seriously missing X factor in our midfield.....Bennell goes along way to rectifying that.

1) he isn't the only one struggling with basic hand balling, j Lewis especially comes to mind.

2) he has lost too much weight, and doesn't have the confidence to hit hard like he did years ago.

3) his change of direction and lateral movement is poor, a little like Frawley, just a straight line runner (possibly his knee)

And to address the overhead game, and hand balling, I think it's a massive blight on the club that individuals with glaring weaknesses show not a sceric of improvement. There is nowhere near enough individual specific skill work.

I'm going off on a tangent here, but J Lewis is one of the weakest players to set foot in the club in the weight room. And coming from certain people at the club they say it doesn't matter as he is strong on the field. Which is absolute arrogance, and totally inaccurate. He is tough and brave and will put his body on the line, but he can very rarely hold tackles and disarm opponents with ball in hand, and he can't do much to break tackles to get a handball off, he isn't strong enough. A really well schemed long term strength program could help a lot, but it's never been done to my knowledge. He won't turn into Dangerfield, but could improve a lot. It's my pet peeve the lack of individual and specific improvements. Especially with someone like Lewis who is as brave and tough as it gets.
Woke up on the wrong side of bed huh?

i think Hill will be fine...his older bro took some time after bursting on to the scene early in his career...a few quiter seasons,,now he is all class

i think Bradley will be a better player eventually...but has been way off what we know he can produce this year....

According to Jay Clark, Hawks are leading the pack for Bennell. He said we are favourites to land him at this stage but clubs aren't showing their full hands yet.

In a weak draft probably not a bad idea if it just cost us our first pick.
