I think players like Matty Spangher & Whitecross for e.g two certain capable players who have proven& are ready to step into the backline that unfortunately weren't able to play much seniors footy this year much due to their injuries can be big plusses in 2016.I expect the Hawks to be big players as usual in the trade week& the draft as well:).

They have also forgotten his goal in the first quarter that saw him give off the ball on the wing and end up kicking the goal at the end of a chain of passes. First quarter when the game was on the line - after they'd missed a few - critical to kick it to destroy them mentally and Hill executed the task - played his role - people on here saying that he's a passenger know nothing zero about football
I was reading the last 2 pages and was going to finish reading thread before I posted this.

I think people who are bagging him are used to seeing him be a more offensive player, and when they don't see him be this offensive player they are used to think he does nothing. It's obvious that Smith and Hill swap roles depending on who is getting the attention. I will bag hill when he stops running, and at the moment he hasn't.

I reckon Stratton would likely play on the 2nd best forward before Gibson would.
Duryea to become our number 1 small defender.

FB: Duryea - Frawley - Gibson
HB: Burgoyne - Stratton - Birchall

That's missing Spangher and Litherland who together can cover any of those six positions.
I think Stratton was being groomed into that role this year. It is only starting to make sense now. Yes he did quell some small forwards, but I thought he was less offensive this year and played more as defender.

Our KPD stocks are good at the moment so we don't need to trade anyone in for that role.
Who are our KPD stocks that have actually played at AFL level? Frawley. Plus an oft-injured Spangher, a superstar KPF in Schoey, and the undersized Stratton and Gibson. Compared to Lake, none of those options sound that great, especially since most of them rob us in other areas.

See how a preseason goes for Shem, Brand and TOB. You never know.

If you don't blood new players then this mini rebuild is going to be tough. Lake wouldn't have played 22 games this year if Brand wasn't injured.

Gibbo is not a capable KPD, he is the perfect floating 3rd tall. We certainly need to look at another guy who can help out, it's a shame that Brand was injured, he looks a type.

No thanks. We don't need KPD.
We'll see I guess.

We just lost Lake. Lets not kid ourselves here, Carlisle is a far better defender than any of the up coming kids that have been listed. We've got to make hay while the legends are still going around, I want 5 in a row.

Brand will likely play on the second tall next year. Won't be pretty at times and I'm sure there will be some complaints about letting Lake go early but it's necessary pain we need to endure to keep turning our list over.

Obviously we don't know what kind of contract Lake would have accepted, but why not keep him around for another year on a smallish contract? Even if it's just as finals insurance, it seems a pretty big risk to take, especially given how much we were destroyed by KPF's pre-Lake. We need to learn from Geelong, bringing in youth is great, but if those players aren't pushing the oldies out of their spots, it's unlikely they will suddenly step up if you get rid of them. Geelong were also in a position where even with the older players, their best wasn't good enough, whereas we are in our window right now, and Lake has been one of our most important contributor in finals.

Like i said, i trust our brains trust, but this move has me a little concerned.

Brand: maybe
Shem: long way off
O'Brien: won't make it at Hawthorn
Although we live in hope with TOB, your assessment is hard to argue with.

Tomlinson would be ideal
Any idea what we would have to offer? I don't think I'd be able to pick the guy in a lineup, but I haven't watched a whole lot of GWS.

I was for that from the moment talks of his future came up. But it's done now so I'll look forward.

We somehow managed to win two premierships with one KPD in Lake prior to Frawley arriving. Why can't we do the same now? :p
Because Gibbo will be 24 months older and is slowing down?

It will be a big gamble if the Hawks roll into next year with Spang, Kiwi and Brand as three options for the second key defender spot. Hopefully the experiment of Schoey there is done.
