Geez I hope we are right up to our ears with Dangerfield.

38 disposals, 29 contested 9 clearances with 8 tackles.........God help me.
Me too mate me too.

I actually find it so strange that some posters on here don't want him. The guy is elite and won't require a trade! Just cap space. Picking up Dangerfield would be absolutely huge for us. We need a player as good as him with his age profile so badly to keep our window open for awhile yet.

That's interesting. So Ward, your captain, is on $300,000? He'll be asking for a big pay rise next year along with Mummy. That deal you cut with the Dogs for Griffen is looking like a very smart trade now if you're only paying him $330,000 a year. Davis on $570,000 seems legit. Scully is an interesting one. He actually seems to be kicking on this year so I would think he'll get more than $300,000 when he signs his next contract. Any idea what Patfull is on? Anyway, point was, the Giants should have enough cap room to fend off potential suitors this year.

Next year might be a different story and I'm sure teams will be cueing up for Whitfield.
Scull's deal was worth $6,000,000 over 6 years. It was massively front loaded because of the state of our list in years 1-2. He'll be looking at $500-$600k-$700k again from the end of 2017. Gut feel is he'll never leave though.

Ward is on more than $300k, his contract was front loaded, like Scullys, but he is on $500k this year.

Patfull is on bugger all in the grand scheme of things. We only got him because the Swans weren't allowed to trade last year, he had a deal stitched up with them but when they got penalised his only alternative was to come to us. No more than $250,000.

It's why I don't think he'll stay past the end of next year, but it looks as though his coaching of the young guys like Haynes is paying off dividends.

If Ward is only on 300k go for him!!!

Must admit was wrong to say it was complete rubbish, but from what I've heard there were 4 or so clubs in the hunt being Richmond, Carlton, St Kilda and Hawthorn in saying that it does look like he's going to sign that 2 year deal then hopefully comes home
Richmond were very keen but he didn't want to play under (for lack of a better word) his potential father in law Chocko as he didn't want any reason for any potential tension between them.
Many clubs are/were quite keen, doesn't mean that he was interested in them.

Wasn't there something like a 70/30 swing Sloane's way in a recent "who would you prefer - Sloane or Dangerfield" debate on this board last week? I'm positive there were many many posters saying Danger was over rated and we don't want/need him. I wonder how that poll would look after Saturday night.

Again, I'll hold out hope that we can somehow be in the market for Danger as a free agent in a few months time.
If he like Shiel values success over money then it has to be Waverley over the Cattery. I understand the family / Moggs Creek connection but wasn't Buddy always going to GWS for money, Tippett always back to QLD for family reasons, Mitch Clark to Freo for family reasons!
I won't give up on the idea...not until he is signed. He is EXACTLY what we need, someone who can will himself on the contest and stamp his authority on a game. Also plays midfield, forward and back (ie perfect replacement for Burgoyne).

If we landed Dangerfield as a free agent and paid generous overs in a trade for a Caleb Marchbank (I'm very keen but still using him as an example only) then that would be the perfect trade period for us...as we have made a habit of doing in the past.

I don't think it was a matter of overrated, it was a matter of overpriced.

Danger would be even better playing in our midfield where he would get some decent protection. A future midfield of Danger, Shiels, Jed, Langers, Billy, Hill, Howe and JOR would be pretty handy.

Worth every cent up to $600k a year. He would know that you don't go to Hawthorn if it's money you seek.

Time will tell, like it always does I guess.
He'd be on more than $600k a year at the Crows already, surely!
How we gonna get him for that, trade Rioli and Bruest to the Crows?

He is a restricted free agent though. Crows would match $600k and then demand a trade. They'd call his bluff on walking to the pre-season draft if it was a contract of that value because he'd have played his hand on the fact he wants success and he won't get it any time soon at a club that would have an early pick in the PSD.

If we get Dangerfield then it's probably with a very large contract that is heavily back-ended (with the intention that it won't be too bad by the back half with a larger salary cap following a big media rights deal post-2016). Or we trade with the Crows and give up something valuable in exchange.

It has to be getting that way Steve.
Barrett said on TFS last week that they upped their offer to Treloer to $750k for 5 years....now Shiel along with many other big contracts up there.
For memory the Bulldogs are still paying some of Griffen's salary which probably helps things a little.

Caleb Marchbank would be a nice young KPP if you are listening Wrighty :)
Barrett actually said the pies had up there offer to Treloar not the Giants, if the Giants had offered any where near 700,000 he would of re-signed by now.
The truth is that what Treloar's management are asking for and what the Giants are prepared to offer are poles apart.

Seems like the Giants are going to have to bite the bullet and do what it takes to keep Treloar/Whitefield/Shiel/Coniglio. Once they taste a bit of success this year and more so next year, no GWS player is going to want to leave unless it's for more opportunity.

I'm thinking we should just have a merged thread of "Which GWS player is going to Hawthorn?"

Seriously though, really appreciating the input of the GWS fans. You guys are so polite compared to the scum and filth we usually get visiting our boards.

It's easy to be polite when talking to supporters of a team that are no longer a threat to them. :p;)
