Exactly.
Carlisle wants to be a backman. He is a natural defender. He will leave Essendon if he gets good coin and if he knows he will play in his preferred position.
He isn't a forward and it's been said how he would rather play down back but Essendon keep trying to turn him into a forward.
* Paddy Ryder is drafted in the first round as a pure ruckman wants to play in the ruck, leaves Essendon to play in ruck as they are too stubborn to give him the minutes in the ruck he desires.
* Jake Carlisle is drafted as a defender early in the second round and wants to return to the backline where he plays his best footy (2012 rising star nom in defence and stellar year in 2013 in defence before being switched forward as a pinch hitter), isn't a natural forward but has a permanent role there in 2015. His confidence as a forward is shot. "May" be sounding out other clubs who will play him in defence where he is much a more confident player but club refuses to make the switch.
* Ryan Shoenmakers is drafted late first round, spends 6 years developing as a kpd after being drafted as a forward, is much maligned after being thrown in the deep and as a kpd with limited support and confidence is shot as he is far from a natural defender. Club puts his name on the trade table after recruiting more adequate depth in his current position.
He begs to stay at the club and prove his worth. Club moves him back to the forward line where he seems to be enjoying his football again although is still yet to really cement his place in the side.
Tells you something about both clubs and coaches doesn't it!
