Kelly is only 1 year younger (that's right, just 1 year). How is Kelly stronger than O'Rourke? O'Rourke is a bigger, more mature body than Kelly by a long way and I would back O'Rourke to beat Kelly in a foot race but Kelly is the more skilful. So 2/3 of your criteria, O'Rourke is the better of the 2. I am happy to wait another year on Kelly because he is contracted for next year and his value will drop significantly because he wont get a game with a midfield of Ward, Griffen, Coniglio, Hopper, Kennedy, Smith, Hoskin Eliiot and a few others.
No way is O'Rourke a better player than Kelly. O'Rourke will be lucky to make a career out of football where Kelly will be a mainstay in the midfield after next year.

Based on what? He played 18 games this year and 18 in his first year. Why would he be forced out of the side when he is only going to get better?

He will be pushed out be their academy guns in Jacob Hopper and Matt Kennedy along with the other midfield guns I mentioned above. He had a great first year, no one is arguing that.

I didn't say that O'Rourke is the superior player, you are trying to twist my words to your liking. It is about 10 times harder to crack into the Hawks midfield than it is the GWS midfield.

Thanks, I was sure that I heard reports that he will most likely go home in 2017 but thought it was to Victoria. Would he be a 'big fish'?
Absolutely he would. His first 2 years he averaged 21 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 inside 50's, 4 clearances at 70% DE, played 44 games and kicked 27 goals. Is an absolute young gun and it's only his knee that could hold him back from here.

He wants to be in Melbourne as he has a big interest in property/business. Think he may also have been traveling down to see a Melbourne doctor about his knee.

He has just bought an investment property in melbourne and is apparently pretty keen to do more business in the Melbourne area.
Whether he wants to move here for that reason who would know.

O'Rourke was a reach and a surprise #2 in a compromised draft.

Kelly was a consesus #2 and talked about possible #1 pick at some stages, was also a Rolls Royce from 16 onwards.

They arent really comparable.

As for the foot race, Kelly would lap O'Rourke in a 3km time trial on a track, he's one of the best runners to test at the combine.

But why will he be pushed out? He's a jet.
Why will he pushed out? I'll tell you why. GWS have a deep midfield that contain several jets and Kelly is getting pushed further down the pecking order. Ward, Griffen, Coniglio, Shiel, Smith, Greene, Scully, Whitfield, Hoskin-Elliot and with gun prospects Hopper and Kennedy coming in through their academy this draft, this should put doubt in Kelly's mind and GWS will need as many first round picks they can get to ensure they secure Hopper and Kennedy which makes it a win-win if Kelly does nominate us.

O'Rourke was going at pick 4 or 5 at the absolute latest in his draft so that's not really a reach. Kelly was never going to go #1 with a junior star monster key forward like Boyd in the same draft. Too bad players don't run 3km in 1 effort making your comparison of Kelly lapping O'Rourke in a time trial not so comparable. Melbourne said when they traded pick 2 that they were not going to pick Kelly. Kelly went at #2 because GWS fell in love with him and didnt want to pass on him.

Fair enough. So despite the fact he is 20 years old, is clearly a star in the making and seemingly the one who will take Treloar's spot in the midfield, he will get pushed out by clearly inferior players in Hoskin-Elliot, Greene and Scully, and will also apparently be pushed out by gun academy prospects who haven't played a game, despite being a gun prospect himself?

I want your crystal ball.

With rotations dipping sharply and the sub rule being abolished the demands will return to a more long distance training regime.

Kelly also has some of the best footskills in the comp.

You might be the only person in Australia who prefers O'Rourke to Kelly, which is ironic considering Kelly is probably the reason O'Rourke got traded in the first place, he's pretty much better in every facet.
