Ok, sooo if we were to target Kelly what would he cost us.. First rounder and ?? If we are talking best 22 player who would we cough up. Swallow, JZ cunners, they have an abundance of mids. Scooter?

Swallow, JZ or Cunners plus a 1st rounder would be way too much. A 1st rounder plus Basti is fair imo.

Why would GWS want Basti tho? They have an abundance of mids already and have a few more top shelf academy boys coming through for which they need earlyish picks.

You would think a first and second round pick (2016) would be doable in an uncompromised drafts but with FA compo that pushes our picks back to 18-20 (first) and 35-40 (second) which they would likely not be happy with.

We may have to trade our first and a player to go up in the draft and use that on a trade target like Kelly (If indeed he is one)

Probably because the midfield is still inexperienced and could use someone like Basti.

Talk of trading JZ or Cunners is just lunatic asylum stuff.

Sorry don't agree. Basti plus our 1st rounder (which will be pick 18 or 19 :)) wont get this done. It will take us to give up one of the 22 that went around on Saturday night to get this done. GWS are strong in midfield and forwards, its backline KPDs they might look at...hence Scooter or Hansen most likely to appeal to GWS in my opinion. I would cope with either of those as Kelly is an out and out jet and our 2014 drafting was largely around KPDs.

Thinking that Basti has much currency for a side deep with mids of A1 quality is just as silly.

Agree, just think sometimes people can get into the mentality that a team wanting experienced players will take trash just because they have played 100 games.
Correct. I just cant see GWS accepting anyone outside of someone in our first 22. Just wont happen. The draft is shallow so our late 1st round pick has less currency than what it may have in previous years and GWS are past accepting offcuts as they will be looking at top 8 next year at least. Hansen, Thompson and maybe maybe maybe JZ or Cunners ok with me.

With rotations dipping sharply and the sub rule being abolished the demands will return to a more long distance training regime.

Kelly also has some of the best footskills in the comp.

You might be the only person in Australia who prefers O'Rourke to Kelly, which is ironic considering Kelly is probably the reason O'Rourke got traded in the first place, he's pretty much better in every facet.
So O'Rourke is such a fat slob that will struggle with reduced rotations? Again, I have not once said I prefer O'Rourke over Kelly! I have used them as an example and story so stop trying to twist my words!

Fair enough. So despite the fact he is 20 years old, is clearly a star in the making and seemingly the one who will take Treloar's spot in the midfield, he will get pushed out by clearly inferior players in Hoskin-Elliot, Greene and Scully, and will also apparently be pushed out by gun academy prospects who haven't played a game, despite being a gun prospect himself?

I want your crystal ball.
These academy guns may not have played a game but if they are fit come round 1, they will not only debut and play a good part of the year! Hoskin Elliot, Greene and Scully are ahead of Kelly. As for my crystal ball, what crystal ball? Last time I checked I was allowed this was a public forum where we can express opinion, has that changed? Your opinion or wank fest about Kelly is different to mine and thats fine.

No doubt it would be a tough deal to nut out but really the players your suggesting getting rid of weaken both our team and our club considerably.

The mention of JZ or Cunners screams look at me i play supercoach and have no idea of list management. In the real world you dont give up proven performers at finals level in their early 20's who are the heart and soul of the clubs leadership.

Weakening our backline is something i also don't think is a great move, the last 2 years we have brought in Tippett, Durdin and Neilson clearly this is an area the club sees as a weakness and is trying hard to address. A few weeks back i was starting to believe the Hansen wants out stuff but seeing him after the game in Syd with Taz i'm thinking he's very happy at North.

As for Scooter plenty bitch an moan about him but how well would our defence hold up without him? Plays big and small, usually gets an oppositions No.1 forward week in week out. Yup sometimes he gets beaten but hey that happens when you play on the best going around every week, without him we would be a much more vulnerable team.

Finals is build around defense and contested ball. Why would we make ourselves a lesser finals team?

GWS need points for academy kids, not picks in the draft, so a thin draft doesn't de-value our 1st rounder to them. So sure id offer our 1st and 2nd or maybe 1st this year and 2nd next year as we still need to draft this year.

Kelly is worth chasing, but not worth selling out our club or culture.

With a heavy heart I'd do a trade for Kelly that included Dumont.

The reason why he doesn't get games is because we won't play another inside mid on top of Swallow, Ziebell and Cunnington. That isn't going to change for the next 4-5 years.

Isn't there talk of changing the father son rule back to fifty games?
If this is true we should seek compensationary picks or a discount in the cost of picks for our next F/S from the AFL for Josh Kelly.

Because it is an absolute farce.

*edit and if they change it after Paul Spargo's son is of draft age they can f*** right off.

People on here hate and continually bag Bastinac, Hansen, Thompson etc, but as soon as it's time to trade them, they're suddenly guns that are equal in value to Kelly, one of the best young mids in the comp? Sure, GWS will swap our offcuts for their young guns, and they'll thank us for it :drunk:
