If there's one thing I've learnt during this trade period and even earlier in the year when we went after other players........we have a perception problem. An oldish club (playing list wise) that will soon start finishing at the bottom end at the ladder. What else can it be when your offering good coin to players that are on the move?

If you were a player on the move to another club and thought they weren't going anywhere for the duration of your career.....would you go there?

Only one way this perception can change.......keep playing finals footy. Even when Harvey, Petrie, Firrto, Waite and Dal Santo are all gone. The depth is there.....none of the names I just typed finished in our top 3 in the B'n'F.
25 players on the list under 25, sure our top end has 6 over 30 but we have plenty to go on with the job in 2017 all with finals experience!

The perception is there but its very very wrong.

With only 3 open list spots what do we do with 26, 34, 38, 40, 53?

Taking 26 costs us 40 so its a 14 pick upgrade only.
Fair point but we must have a plan or why would we have bothered with pick 53 for Currie?
A package deal of points for a club maybe or Harper and McKenzie are feeling very nervous about their future.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Currie was uncontracted and it was a deal to get him to his desired destination.

The club most likely went into the deal knowing they may not even use the pick, but did it as a service to the player. If it was about the pick I'm sure they would have pushed for the better of the two picks given to GC by Geelong.

I think this was your classic goodwill trade to help a player.

Think the Pickering slagging is unwarranted. If anything - he'd want his client to take the longer deal, with greater pay.
The thing is we're all looking at this, with the benefit of understanding we're part of the greatest club in the comp, and thus it seems impossible to fathom why anybody would NOT want to play with us.

To others externally, we're just a little minnow club, doing decently enough on the ladder, playing in front of decent enough crowds, save for a couple games a year when we make it to the finals. The stuff that we all see day to day that makes us love this club, and not want to look anywhere else just isn't as obvious to outsiders.

On the other hand, Aish is being offered up to the biggest club in the comp, who pulls 60k + each week, plays in Anzac day, and (as hard as it is to admit) is actually building a decent list. Not to mention that the Lexus is a great facility, and the Collingwood admin/fitness staff etc are very good. I can see why an outsider would want to go there.

Doesn't make me think he's not completely and utterly wrong for not choosing us as his first option, but sometimes the flashy lights of ANZAC Day (and Queens Birthday lol) and some good salesman can lure a naive 19 year old in. Let's hope we can find someone else that wants to play for us, and make him and Bucks sit in a corner eating icecream, thinking "if only."

Wish you blokes would stop thinking a bloke who has been at the club 6 years and dropped 4 times this year

was worth anything more than a 2nd round pick at best.

Bastinac has gone backwards bigtime and if we can get a pick in the 20's we have done a huge job.

Simple as that.
I know some here like to lower expectations, but if in a weak draft Basti isn't worth 17, I'd keep him as a backup for our tilt for our fifth flag.

I agree there was a goodwill part to this deal but 53 is worth 233 points in this new value system. Could be handy if we are planning to package our picks for GWS or Brisbane.

He wont stay I think Bris have ticked off our either/or deals. Its better this way we get to unload his salary and his place gets taken by developing players such as Froggy, McKenzie, McDonald or whoever we get with 17.

It could, but those clubs will have to want to deal with us? Brisbane maybe to get Bastinac, but GWS probably has quite a few offers flowing in.

I was responding to someone that again thinks it okay to be talking about 2nd round picks. 17 and I am all in.:)

53 isnt a bad pick for us to keep.

1/ Apparently we like a couple of smokies in this draft and that seems a nice range to select one.

2/ Bris will use most of their late 30s early 40s picks on Academy bids so it will move up a fair bit.

Why the guy is a grub.

His remarks regarding North and their handling of Greenwood last year were unwarranted.
He's an agent - that's what they do. Not sure there's any "nice" agents, they're all acting in the best interests of their client. Pickers just happens to be the one that's screwed us recently, but it's not like the others are much better.

I'd want my kid to be represented by him, he's a snake - but at least i'd know the kid would be getting the best deal for himself and his future.

Basti is worth between 20-25 in my opinion, pretty much where we drafted him at. I'd rather keep him and only give him up for overs. I still think aish is a chance to get to us regardless of what has been said publicly.

If Brisbane don't pay overs for basti then keep him, that's pretty much what where all saying and it's right. I still rate him

Disagree hes a non best 22 player who taking up the salary of a best 10...time to move him and advance our assembly line of developing kids who cost us less and deserve a shot.

I get the needs vs surplus argument, but can't see the logic in paying a first rounder for a contracted player while letting a our own go for a second round pick.

While we got bent over last year, a fair bit of that was our doing so can cop that, but letting a contracted player go for a second rounder will demonstrate we are weak at the trade table.

17 games and a few years running on his contract would suggest loyalty gone his way. We get a decent offer or Basti is at Arden St next year.

I have no issue about him getting the best deal for his clients, but there is no need to slag off clubs for how they handle players or the offers that they present to players.

All the slagging off was designed to do was to make North look like they had mistreated Greenwood and make it look like he wasn't bailing for the money.

The grub couldn't help himself though, had to open his mouth and make it sound like he was taking the high road.

I have a feeling Aish will get to Collingwood somehow and we will get a second rounder for Basti.

No feeling on what will happen with Black or BMac or any fish of any size.

btw, did anyone else hear Derek Hine on SEN late afternoon? Hope he wasn't driving home - kept calling Seedsman "Adam".
It's because he's been banned from calling him "Leso".
