GREATER Western Sydney’s full medical screening of Adam Treloar found he did not need any surgery on his troublesome hip.
Treloar is expected to be traded to Collingwood after weeks of negotiations, the Giants unapologetic for their hard-line trade stance.
The AFL has ruled out any further action after Treloar had secret hip surgery in Tasmania without the Giants’ knowledge.
GWS coach Leon Cameron expressed his disappointment that contracted midfielder Treloar had not alerted the club to his medical care.
Contrary to the advice Treloar received from the Giants, Collingwood medicos established his groin injury was hip-related.
Both the Pies and GWS have vowed to publicly move forward in a deal that delivers Collingwood a future captain and GWS two first-round picks.
“(The trade) is not far away. Both clubs progressed pretty well from Friday over the weekend. We are pretty confident from both ends we will get it done,” Cameron said.
“With top-liners these deals take time. Some take longer than others.
“After our full doctor screening we thought he didn’t need (surgery) but it was disappointing to find out that three or four weeks later there was a surgical procedure done on Adam without us knowing.
“I think there was an investigation. We were pretty disappointed because he sits under our banner as a player, but all the parties have sorted it out and moved forward.”
The Giants one-to-three year players return to the club on November 9 and Cameron is adamant homesick tall Cameron McCarthy will be at training.
His manager Colin Young implored the Giants to reconsider but it seems extremely unlikely.
“(November 9) is when the boys return. We are confident we can get him back into the mix with the boys,’’ he said.
“There is no doubt we have acknowledged some homesickness and some boys adapt differently to others.
“We are confident we can get him back in and ready to roll. He is a second-year player who kicked just under 40 goals. They are hard to come across.”
