Yes we can hold onto Basti, but if he really wants to go, the club may accept a lesser pick.
Basti's value is subjective so at the end of the day, if they want Basti to stay he will stay.

As ive said before, I believe there is mutual respect between the club and him, and if a trade can work out that benefits Ryan and just as importantly North, then he will go.

IMO letting him go for pick 26 is poor list management and does not benefit us. He is under contract so we are not forced to take unders like we did with Greenwood.

But ill back the club to know what they are doing.

Highly doubt Black will be going to Sydney, he went up there and Sydney weren't really impressed with his attitude.

From what I've been told Blacks manager organized it all but Black is really only interested in heading west or somewhere where he is guaranteed game time.

Brisbane interests has cooled too, freo will only offer late picks.

We should be the ones playing hardball here.
NMFC probably want to offload Basti and his salary.

More games for the likes of Dumont/McKenzie/Anderson/Garner/Turner/Wood.

Not sure what is available next year but at least we have massive amounts of cash and Collingwood are further back in the draft and Geelong have already sold the farm.

Of course we want to offload him. As Hawthorn would've with Anderson once it was clear they were not in each other's plans.

But Hawthorn was smart enough to play a "we'd like to keep him" him line which made North have to come up with an enticing offer at the negotiating table.

For the sake of the negotiation I don't understand why North wouldn't drive a hard bargain going with the angle Bastinac is still a contracted player. You don't tell the person checking out your car for sale "oh I'm desperate to sell because I'm trying to pay off that new one in the garage".

Worst case scenario we keep him for another season but establish some sort of valuation standards to other clubs when approaching our players. Seems to work for Hawthorn and Collingwood.

We might want to off load him real bad and be seen to be doing the right thing by Basti but I get your point.

I am tempted to keep him out of spite.

As for freeing up Basti cash, there is not much leg speed in the 2016 FA list or much on offer:

Nathan Brown way over rating Collingwoods midfield, 7 for De Goey wtf, did he do anything this year. He averaged 14 touches for god sakes, he probably have Basti a 6.

All of the bigger clubs get overrated.

It's the nature of the media.

Reminds me of the Geelong Advertiser back in the late 90s and early 2000s. They would rate each player for Geelong and their opponent that week. Regardless of Geelong sitting in the bottom half at that time there would only ever be a few weeks they didn't rate higher. Pretty sure someone like Henry Playfair was rated higher then Corey Mckernan one time.

Basti could be Gibson but with skills - it's easy to say move him on, but we may be missing his peak period, some guys mature later and I think he is one of them. Plus who do we have that's like him?[/QUO

Maybe he matured early....his first two seasons were his best. I like basti, and happy for him to stay, but if he gets a better deal for himself and the club gets what they want, then good luck to him and club alike
