For us its irrelevant. I'm guessing what you're getting at is how do those point allocations impact clubs who are also bidding on academy/fs?
what I am thinking is if a club like North tried something like https://www.draftguru.com.au/pick-value-calculator#14,|Black,34,53,73, could that work more in Sydney's favour as the draft proceeded then what it would be worth before a pick had been utilised, a deal like that could realistically be worth more like https://www.draftguru.com.au/pick-value-calculator#14,|Black,34,47,63, Sydney score an extra 160pts because the picks are later.

That is robbery for Menzel. I rate him and I think he would be a quality player in a strong team. Pace and a smooth operator.

Injuries issues concerning though.

**** trade Basti for him

A lot of Carlton supporters want to **** Menzel off because they think he's soft/doesn't have his heart in it.
Really?..

From what I've seen he looks like a jet, I reckon we should be busier than Hutchy in a toupee shop trying to deal Basti for him today!

Agreed. He's one of those that you can put one out in the square and watch him rip his opponents to shreds. I still can't believe it.

My only concern is his knee. If Saunders signed off it'd be a massive steal. WE'LL HAVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CARLTON is on the verge of finalising a deal to secure Liam Sumner and three of his Greater Western Sydney teammates, as Sam Kerridge also weighs up whether to join the Blues just two days out from the NAB AFL Trade deadline.

Giants speedster Sumner, Lachie Plowman, Andrew Phillips and Jed Lamb are set to reunite with list manager Stephen Silvagni at Ikon Park, possibly in a trade involving the Blues' pick 20 and 21.

Speaking to NAB AFL Trade Radio, Sumner's manager Winston Rous said the deal could be pushed through on Tuesday afternoon.

"It's absolutely still on the horizon. I think that could be something that gets done later today or even tomorrow for Liam, and maybe even for those other boys that I don't manage," Rous said.

"For Liam, it would be a fantastic opportunity. He's had four years in the system now, he was pick 10 and through various reasons – through opportunity, how strong GWS' list is and through injury – he just hasn't quite been able to put forward the best part of his career."

Sumner didn't manage a senior game in 2015 due to wrist and ankle issues and the 177cm Sandringham Dragons product has been limited to just 12 games for GWS.

"(He's) a player with exceptional speed. He'll be able to play that forward pressure role but also be able to move up to the wing and maybe even pinch-hit through the (midfield) at different points," Rous said.

"He can run and carry, he does have that X-factor around kicking goals and taking great marks for a player of his size. So it's really exciting for him."

The four Giants could be joined by Crows midfielder Sam Kerridge at Carlton, with Rous confident the 22-year-old would get more opportunities at the Blues on a three-year deal, as first reported by AFL.com.au.

Reports suggest Carlton forward Troy Menzel could be involved in a swap for Kerridge.

"Sam has met with Carlton, there is an opportunity there that might unfold in the next couple of days," Rous said.

"Nothing's committed to at this point in time, we've just got to make sure everyone would be happy if that was the way it was going to go down.

"He's been injured for the most part of this year, has only played one game. They've got pretty good depth in their midfield, but he potentially could go to a club like Carlton and play straight away.

"It's that fresh start that he's looking at. Carlton put forward something pretty compelling around the meeting with the coaches and the role that he would play.

"That's something he has to weigh up now."

Rous has already helped seal a move for another Giant this Trade Period, with tough inside midfielder Jacob Townsend and pick 120 going to Richmond in exchange for pick 70.

"It's a very good opportunity for Jacob … they identified him a fair way out," Rous said.

"Probably their best season of late was maybe 2013 when Dan Jackson won their best and fairest. Probably since that time they've maybe lacked a bit of grunt on the inside, that real enforcer-type role.

"Jacob through his 20 games of AFL football is something he's really shown, he's really aggressive, a strong tackler and he'll give Cotchin and the likes a chop out."

Some of you guys need to get over wanting to keep basti. The bloke does not fit in our midfield. He's an inside midfielder who can play a bit of outside midfield as well. We have cunners, ziebell, swallow and soon to be dumont who are all ahead of him in that position and wells, dal santo, harvey and gibson who are all ahead of him on the outside. He would not get game time over the next few years if he stayed. If i was told a club were going to offer an early 20's pick for basti mid season i would have laughed and took it no questions asked.
Spring chickens all of them, none of them will be still playing after 2017. Again problem lies with Swallow who arguably is a one trick pony (maybe he could be a back pocket player if he were to be taken out of the middle) He cant go forward, so its only in the backline for Spitta.
Sure Swallow has attributes way back when all of these young players come to the club worthy to be Captain. He consistantly found the pill whilst our young brigade learned their respective skills ........but now these younger players have 100 plus game experience. Lets be honest here there weren't many people at the club who could have taken over the role.....maybe in hindsight Boomer should have kept the Captaincy.
Swallow's skill set overall combined with his age is less than Bastinac's skill set and his age. I'm highlighting Bastinac age because he could easily play another 8 seasons for the club against Swallow's who say will play another 4 years and who will slowly and naturally give less up to the point of retirement , also Bastinac could play as you said the inside role. Remember Cunnington's output this year was lessened and a byproduct of Swallow coming back from his achillies injury. So as it stands Cunnington and Bastinac are affected by Swallow being in the team and the respective growth curves are being stifled.

Again I give you a sliding doors moment:

If we kept Boomer as Captain, would you have kept Swallow on the list , this isn't a slur on Swallow as a footballer he's solid, finds the pill , courageous and tough. But look at it from a list manager's point of view. Take emotion out of it. And its hard mainly the fact because Swallow is captain.
I'm not saying we should cull Swallow ( normal clubs don't do that ) as it sends the wrong message to the player group as well as the rest of the football industry.

I'm disapointed that we've invested 100 + games ( hindsight my be smart because the father/son) and we all know Basti can play.........and now he is in his best years now and I have no doubt that if he has the opprtunity to play his natuarl game he'll be an asset to the Brisbane FC.

Arsenal FC,
Look this will likely get some more abuse because of past posts but seriously does anyone think Tomlinson is a realistic option for us now considering he looks destined to be out of GWS. would also be very keen on Jack Steele

Basti could be Gibson but with skills - it's easy to say move him on, but we may be missing his peak period, some guys mature later and I think he is one of them. Plus who do we have that's like him?
I totally agree with your post J7.......but Mckenzie can play it means the door may open up for him.

Neither does 90% of their list.
Yeah reminds me of a softer Wingard. Give his talent a go in a heartbeat. Bastinac for Menzel would do better than Kerridge and 28 or whatever it was.
