Strange thing is that if the Bastinac deal is seperate to the Aish deal, then why isn't he already gone??
We are still in the hunt.
It'll be done in principle but we'll be holding off until Aish to Collingwood is certain. I'd fully expect the deal to be lodged in the last minute tomorrow.

If this is accurate net result is we downgraded by 2 picks to swap Bastinac for Anderson.

While Basti is flaky you'd hope the 10 gamer is close to a certain gun to swap a 24yo 100+ gamer for him and lose 2 first round spots to boot.

The longer GWS hold out on Collingwood, the more likely we land Aish.

This Treloar saga is 24 carat gold.

My take, we have a non-Aish and an Aish deal signed off by Brisbane. We hit the go button when one is the final choice. This will be a midday tomorrow kind of deal I think.
Hope not. If the perception is anywhere near reality I'd rather avoid Aish altogether, get the deal done with Brisbane and then focus on other options.

There hasn't been a shred of the notion Aish considering us in any media.

Exactly. There are two options, either that deal or a deal with Aish.
So effectively the Pies will have to offload another good player (to us or elsewhere) to gain the necessary future picks to satisfy Brissie. Love seeing them sweat at the very least.

North Melbourne deal leaves Collingwood scrambling on James Aish

Collingwood are scrambling to find a future draft pick to satisfy the Brisbane Lions in a deal for James Aish after the Lions have all but finalised a separate deal with North Melbourne for Ryan Bastinac.

While there had been discussions about a three-way trade involving three clubs with Aish getting to Collingwood and Bastinac to Brisbane, the Lions have found a way to land the North midfielder without involving the Magpies.

Under the North deal with the Lions, which is close to being completed, Brisbane will give up pick 17 and receive picks 38 and 40 in return from North with Bastinac.

As a result of that deal, the Lions would have enough draft "points" - despite losing pick 17 - to cover the cost of their two talented academy players, who are expected to attract higher bids.

The Aish negotiations between Collingwood and Brisbane have already seen the Pies offer up the future second-round pick they have received from St Kilda for Nathan Freeman.

But it is understood Brisbane want another future second-rounder in 2016, when they will have another highly sought academy player. They no longer feel they need second-round picks in this year's draft. Collingwood are already committed to trading their future first-round pick for Adam Treloar, a deal that has been agreed in principle but still hasn't been signed off. This means they cannot their own future second-rounder but the Pies can, however, trade future picks they gain in a trade.

I would laugh so hard for Aish and Collingwood if they cannot satisfy the Lions and the Lions say a big **** you both and just send him into the draft.

Or, for next to nothing, we swapped a player we are unlikely to need who wants more opportunities, for a younger player who has qualities we want and is keen to play for us.

Carlton have broken new ground by trading the future draft pick they received for Lachie Henderson for pick eight in this year's draft. The Blues and Greater Western Sydney have reached an agreement in which Carlton will hand the Giants the 2016 first-round selection they received from Geelong in return for GWS' No. 8 pick this year.

This deal will also be tied into a four-player transaction in which Lachie Plowman, Andrew Phillips, Jed Lamb and Liam Sumner are being traded from the Giants to Carlton. The Blues have also been in discussion about a trade of Troy Menzel to the Crows for Sam Kerridge and a second-round pick.

The innovative pick swap means that Carlton will enter this year's national draft with an extremely strong hand. The Blues will have picks 1, 8 and, at this stage, 20 and 21. The unknown in the deal, of course, is where Geelong will finish in 2016, which will determine the value of the pick Carlton received from them and the deal overall. The Giants may need the selection to either pay for their academy players next year or to give themselves flexibility to acquire a senior player from another club.

Agree but again it comes down to trading from a pure list management perspective to trading with an eye to gaining maximum market value perspective.

It's not a disastrous net result but retaining pick 38 in the deal would've felt more balanced in the relative worths of both players as it stands.

That's still not great. Basti and 38 for 17 is fairish.

I mean trading Basti for the next Norm Smith medallist Rioli doesn't sound enough!

I don't reckon you win flags by taking the safe option and keeping someone like Bastinac around instead of taking a risk on someone who could be a top 10 player on your list (and also could not play a game).

If the pick wasn't so high, that could have been the way the Pies get Aish. As I said before, GWS won't be doing Pies any favours.

EDIT: GWS definitely won't give this away, they need it for Academy kids next year.

Mate I agree with you and H2H on the actual player selection aspects of it. I'm commenting on the price paid at the trade table for the respective players.

Like him or not Bastinac is now a seasoned player who has shown solid AFL qualities.

Anderson has some very promising attributes but queries related to injuries, (maybe) commitment and whether he has it in him to be a 100+ game quality player (as do all young players/draftees).

Pick 17 = 1025 points

Pick 38 & 40 = 894 points

Bastinac = 131 points (pick 62)?

Seems like a shit deal.
