So effectively the Pies will have to offload another good player (to us or elsewhere) to gain the necessary future picks to satisfy Brissie. Love seeing them sweat at the very least.
Don't really think it makes any difference unfortunately TT, if anything it plays into Pies hands if Lions don't/can't trade with them.

Aish just goes to Pies in PSD and Lions get nothing.

No other club will pick Aish up knowing he doesn't want to be there. It's not in the spirit of how it should work, but it seems players always get to where they want to in one way or another.

Question..
Is Jack Redden that much of a better player than Basti, that we have to help Brissie out and give them 38 and 40 as well?
I would have thought they were similar value wise.
This isn't purely about valuing Basti, this deal has been designed to push Collingwood into a corner.

I'm sure us and Brisbane have in place an agreement to facilitate a fair trade, but at the moment it's a game to force Collingwoods hand.

I don't think Collingwiod have the cap space to execute that move and don't think clubs like Carlton will be deterred in taking him and banking that they can turn him around once he is inside the club.

Everyone needs to calm down ffs. If someone told me our net gain would essentially be Bastinac (someone struggling for best 22) for Anderson (a young player with all the attributes we were crying out for) and downgrading pick 15 to 17, I think most would have taken it. It means we take 17 and 34 into the draft, and I'm betting some late pick swaps will be part of the trade as well (to upgrade some rookies), and best of all, it screws over Collingwood. Wins all round I reckon!

There can be only one...
This is where the points thing is a crock of shit. The likelihood of finding a good player at 17 is 5 times greater than 38 or 40.

We'd keep 34 in this deal. I reckon it's about fair.
AFL have based the points on historical results and the amount players earn over their career based on where they were drafted. There are a lot of late first round pick players that end up rubbish. it becomes very speculative after a certain point based on how deep the talent runs.

In a draft like this one, a shot gun approach might be more effective than just one higher shot.

Can someone explain how this makes sense!!?

Sure I understand GWS only care about the picks... but pick 8! along with 2 first round quality players? I'm missing something.

We could offer them better shit picks for 8!

Trade radio are saying... 100% he will get picked up in the draft so you are most likely correct Saintly

I can't see Aish coming to North now, I think this will be taken as a move to prevent him getting to where he wants.

This makes me think we have given up on Aish and are playing with Collingwood because we can.
We should have given up on him the day he said he wanted to go to Collingwood.

agree with moti and passmore on this one, points mean nothing to us, we are in effect getting Anderson for basti for a first round downgrade of a couple of picks IMO,
the only metric to measure this is if anderson reaches his ceiling which is considered by some to be greater than bastis.

They need points for next year plus Pick 8 this year might be 20 next year. Better draft means they have hedged their bets.

What do we make of that? Well, let's start by running the rule over Carlton's four new signings.

Lachie Plowman - a former pick 3 in the 2012 draft, the key defender is 21 and has played 20 games.

Andrew Phillips - a former number 4 pick in the 2011 rookie draft, the 202cm Phillips is 24 and has played 14 games. He's a ruckman.

Jed Lamb - a former pick 21 in the 2010 draft, Lamb will be at his third club after initially being drafted by the Swans in 2013, asking for a trade to GWS in 2014, and then asking for another trade to Carlton. Lamb can play up forward and in the midfield. The 23 year old struggled with injuries at GWS, part of the reason he never quite established himself in the side.

Liam Sumner - Sumner was snapped up at pick 10 in the 2011 AFL draft. But since then he's only managed 12 games for the Giants. The quick and agile midfielder stands at a wee 178cms.

So two former top-10 selections, a player on his third club and a 24-year-old ruckman off the rookie list, plus GWS's pick 8 this year. Is that a fair trade for 28, 77, 95 and a 2016 first-round pick?

Lions want two 2nd-rounders from Pies for Aish. If Pies can't deliver, Roos hope Aish changes mind rather than going into draft #TradePeriod

Two 2nd rounders? Pie have that sorted. Surely that can't be right?
They want one second rounder for next year if they are not getting a player, that is my understanding. I think they said they have the points covered for the academy players.
