Need to think for benefit of Harley moving back to WA would be best, and would be in a tough and structured environment which would strongly benefit him. First rounder and Weller would be doing really well! Whether that would happen is a different story.
freo's first rounder likely to be 15-18 this year, and weller selected pick 13, don't equate to the value of bennell.

At some point some heat should be put on Clayton for building this club? The 2010 draft had a lot of top picks go amiss so far. Not to mention the pre 17yo picks in Mckenzie, Matera, Dixon.
Now he gets a free bite at the cherry... Bennell, Caddy, Tape, Gorringe ,Day all wrong so it seems. Swallow, Prestia Lynch were hits. But that 2010 draft where we had pick of the bunch, Clayton only hit 3 out of 8 in the top 15?! Correct me if I wrong with the players/picks? Throw in Lonergan and Schade as other top picks.

Can't say I've been overly impressed, feels as though we are running at about 40%-50% with Claytons choices. Don't get me wrong has jagged a beauty in Miller, Nicholls, Saad, May, Thompson....but still feel as though we haven't nailed it, or at least got more right than wrong.
we discussed it here http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/season-2015-general-footy-chat.1092545/page-27

The 14 draft for mids was strong. Weller would be in top 10 this draft & added bonus with a preseason already under his belt. Not sure pick 8 onwards would get much better.

As I said in the other thread.Clayton must have been involved in the Zorko Mzungu and Weller trades as well
For me, it's been the retention of some players over others that's been really puzzling

After almost 7 years (from TAC Cup back in 09), seriously questioning as to whether or not I still want to support this club.

Drug, culture, leadership problems as well as medical staff issues. First they sack McKenna and now want to trade Dixon and Bennell.

Dixon, the first player to sign with the club, a Queenslander, one of the best key forwards in the comp now wants to leave the club. I always knew we would have retention problems, but not with local players. Even coaching staff such as Shane O'Bree, Stephen Schwerdt, Shaun Hart, Ken Hinkley walked from the club (and are all still coaching at other clubs)

Bennell, all be it he has a few off-field problems, he is still arguably our 2nd best player, if not at least in the top 5. He is one of the most talented players I've ever seen. Although he does have off-field problems, at least he's loyal. But the club all of the sudden decided get rid of him. How are we ever going to grow as a club when we shy away from problems instead of actually trying to work through and fix the problem?

I know for a fact that both players love the club and they are both among the popular players in the playing group. Players like Bennell are the glue that holds the group together, and now that two of our most popular players are leaving, I can only fear that more will follow.

Had this incident occurred during the season then fair enough, but the season has only just ended. Surely you can let this one slide, given it's only been 2 days since the end of a very very tough season for him, especially when you consider what he's gone through this year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very disappointed in Bennell's actions, but i'm extremely disappointed with the club. I really think the club could've tried harder to keep Dixon and they gave up too easily. The club is being to harsh to Bennell given the circumstances, just like how they were to McKenna.

What's even more disappointing is that I know that both Dixon and Bennell will become stars, and the club will regret this in years to come. I really don't think our list is as good as what everyone makes it out to be anymore. Probably not even the top 5 most talented list anymore.

Just in case you're all wondering, I'm not gone yet, but very close. I will only re-new my membership if we get nothing short of the best out of both trades. If we don't get the best result possible in the trade period and don't make finals next year, then you can consider me gone (ok maybe not, but you get the point)

The problem with our current list as it stands is we're paying a million to an admittedly freakish 31yo without actually knowing if he'll ever play a full season at top pace again, and the guys in the wings to take over ie Prestia and O'Meara will no doubt string their contract negotiations out as long as possible next year to maximise their worth with absolutely no confidence from me that they'll stay
We were supposed to put a knife to every oppositions heart with Ablett Bennell Prestia and O'Meara rotating with Swallow and Miller
Harley's gone, and there's no guarantee we'll be able to re-sign O'Meara and Prestia next year

I think the jury is out on Charlie being a week in and week out stable star from a form and injury pespective

It's as flat as I've been following the Suns, and that's saying something.

Broughton and Matera were reported to be with Martin and Bennell at Sin City - be surprised if McKenzie wasn't there too - those boys are the gift that keeps on giving
Its interesting I just finished reading Jonathan Browns book and he drank and went out plenty with Simon Black et al but those guys never got caught or into public trouble and trained the house down, moreso they gave blood on the field where and when it counted
This group just parties and contributes little except Harley but really he has succeeded on talent not really blood and guts commitment and hard work yet
These guys/group have derailed The Suns progress quite profoundly and I think the bigger issue if we dont cut them loose we risk losing the real engine room of players we have that do take the commitment to the club and AFL seriously

I'm not smacked up about Dixon
Alberton will let him become the Ultra Bogan he seems to want to be and his wobbly ankle is too much of a risk to pay big money that will be needed elsewhere
Charlie is a quality guy, I have spent time with him first hand, you can't blame him for taking a life changing offer whoever it's from. He is no bogan BUT he is definitely no certainty to be a long term key forward that is revered in the game. Temperament, reading of play and ankles are all in question - we are not drastically disadvantaged with him gone by any means.

Should be targeting Lachie Neal 22yr old Prestia clone!!
He doesn't want to go anywhere. Weller is the only player that I think would be open to move. He is highly rated at the club and will be getting regular games next year. I am concerned about him though as you can't take the Queenslander out of him. He will either go play with his brother or will go to QLD.
