Geelong is still the same as Hawthorn/Essendon. Even more so with the pressure the whole town puts on their players. Not saying it's a bad thing but i think the pressure on him would be the same as the other Victorian clubs.
The media pressure in geelong is not nearly as much as in melb though.in melb he will barely get to sneeze without the media being on it.

You would think he goes back to wa though?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if someone can answer this for me - seeing as Bennell is on the trade table, do GC have to pay him out for the remaining 2 years he's contracted or does his destined club just pick that up and pay him as usual?

Cheers

I'd say that's the finer details that would be stipulated in the trade.

My own thoughts on Harley are a bit muddled right now, but I'm pretty upset about it all. The difference between Harley and Charlie is that Charlie didn't want to be here, so he can **** right off for all I care. He chases cash, whatever.

But Harley? He loved the club. LOVED it. You speak to him and/or his family and he wanted to be a lifelong Suns player, a 10+ year star who wanted nothing more than to play for and succeed at GC. He's a young kid, but one that's made mistakes unfortunately.

I don't know what we'll get for Harley, but I do know that anything or anyone we get won't be able anyone or anything that can match Harley's talents and ability. I can't think of any other player playing right now in the league who can do what he can. This is a guy that makes Gary Ablett (in his prime) fall into second place when he's on. Nothing is going to be able to compare to what he is or what he will be. Once he gets to 100+ games, look out.

The image of Harley bursting into tears and cleaning out his locker while his friends try to comfort him is something I find incredibly upsetting, but I guess that's just because he's one of my favourites. Packing out his locker in a place he loves, a place he never thought he would ever leave.

That said, I'm happy that the club has done this and really enforced its new leadership and culture. It should open a few eyes, but I'm just shattered that it had to come at the expense of my fave in Harley. I know Rocket is extremely disappointed, as is Harley himself. Rocket really really wanted to keep him and tried so hard to stop him, but at the end of the day Harley makes his own choices.

I hope for his sake he can turn his life around.
Feel much the same Sunny_

Harley was pretty much my favourite. Was just thinking earlier that he was our most exciting player when on, easily our most naturally talented player, and now it appears he's lost to us. Just loved watching him in full flight. Strange really, with all of his indiscretions, he's still hurt no one but himself. He never beat anyone up, never drove drunk, just had a habit of doing the wrong thing in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm hoping against hope that all trade offers are woefully inadequate and we hang onto him...

I would offer our 2015 first rounder + Weller
Harley Bennell playing every second week on Domain stadium would cause nightmares for opposition clubs.

My money is on heading home to WA to be near his family. Either Dockers or Eagles would love to have him on their list.

My money is on Fremantle.

Fremantle would need to hand over Lachie Neal for that to work.
We won't accept pick 17 surely.

Fingers crossed he does love us. And doesn't nominate W.C Freo or the Hawks
Fair call but it might be a desire to be closer to his mother and the rest of his family after a few bad decisions since leaving homefor the GCS.

At some point some heat should be put on Clayton for building this club? The 2010 draft had a lot of top picks go amiss so far. Not to mention the pre 17yo picks in Mckenzie, Matera, Dixon.
Now he gets a free bite at the cherry... Bennell, Caddy, Tape, Gorringe ,Day all wrong so it seems. Swallow, Prestia Lynch were hits. But that 2010 draft where we had pick of the bunch, Clayton only hit 3 out of 8 in the top 15?! Correct me if I wrong with the players/picks? Throw in Lonergan and Schade as other top picks.

Can't say I've been overly impressed, feels as though we are running at about 40%-50% with Claytons choices. Don't get me wrong has jagged a beauty in Miller, Nicholls, Saad, May, Thompson....but still feel as though we haven't nailed it, or at least got more right than wrong.

Need to think for benefit of Harley moving back to WA would be best, and would be in a tough and structured environment which would strongly benefit him. First rounder and Weller would be doing really well! Whether that would happen is a different story.
