2015 US Open

Thought I would get a thread opened for the fignal major the year starting in New York next week. I've always enjoyed the US open, crap timezone but some of the night matches and the atmosphere is amazing. We're back to a normal Sunday final too (monday morning for us) although probably more benefical will be the men's semis on a friday now, now slotted for 5am -12pm, still early but a better time for us. Women's final is a late afternoon match as well starting at 6am. I'll fill this post with previews and info need for these two weeks. I know I'll be one of the few but I look forward to no sleep next 2 weeks.

Website: www.usopen.org

Coverage: Fox Sports are doing the 3 extra courts with the red button which is good but I hope they don't cut before all the matches are finished, several times last years a replay was shown over live play over many courts. Coverage also available online (via VPN through usopen.org or Europsort player)

Ebden beat solid young gun Mmoh in straight this morning in qualies. Might have to question my thoughts on him if Ebden beating him in straight. The other aussies in action start tomorrow:

Smith vs. Witten - Had a great week in Vancouver last week, I can't believe a guy with as little game as Smith is so close to the top 100. Should really beat Witten
Kubler vs. Bagnis - With all the issues he has had, good luck to him, he's had a crap year though.
Saville vs. Khachanov - Khachanov beat a tired Millman last week. Might be a tough match.

Kokk vs Gasquet

Murray vs Kyrgios - BOOM!

Tomic vs Dzumhur

Hewitt vs Nedovyesov

Millman vs. Stakhovsky

--

Coric vs. Nadal

Djoko vs. Souza

Federer vs. Mayer

--------------------------
Dellacqua vs Qualifier

Sharapova vs Gavrilova

Tomljanovic vs Knapp

Stosur vs Babos

Although everyone hates Kyrgios I still think he is an amazing talent and find some of his antics entertaining, I feel pretty disappointed with him dropping so many ranking points that he's ended up with Murray and probably a first round exit. Come on kid the world is your oyster, you could be an absolute legend of austealia and you're just pissing it away!!!

At least Lleyton can win a match potentially and Tomic might be able to make the 3rd round. Outside of that Duckworth has Chung which is winnable even considering his recent form and Groth might be a chance against Dolgopolov if he can bring his best. For the special ks I don't think there's much hope unfortunately, Murray is a terrible matchup for Nick. Real test for Nadal and Coric has a real chance of winning that if he's on song.

Hopefully JP and Ebden qualify and get good draws. Dellacqua should win , not sure about the rest , Gavrilova might be a small chance against Sharapova given a previous win earlier this year and Sharapova not having played much recently. As always who knows with Stosur and Gajdosova.

People will think Nick should of got banned when he's harassed by 20,000 drunk new yorkians while he's getting slaughtered by Murray will change their mind. Nick is going to get his ass kicked.

Shit draw all around, how does Lleyton get the most winnable first rounder? I'll preview the draw sometime this weekend

Well the draw absolutely sucks for the Aussies, except for Hewitt. This will be Lleyton's last grand slam match win, so let's enjoy it.

Read an article today that state the ticket sales of the Women's final are well ahead of the men's final. This tournament is all about Serena. In my opinion this tournament she faces the most pressure/expectation of her career. A CYGS has not been achieved since Graf in 1992. I was only 7 at the time and don't remember it at all, so I'm also excited to see it happen.

Top half plays Monday and bottom half plays Tuesday. So Murray/Kyrgios will be the night match on Wedensday morning most likely.

Men's draw:
Aussies:
Groth vs. Dolgopolov - I'll the same thing I did when he drew him at Wimby last year, this is a horrible matchup, Dolgopolov has got too much flair and game, any slightly easy volley he'll be passed easily. Dolgo making the semis in Cincy shows he is in good form too.
Millman vs. Stakhovsky - Interestingly, this is not as bad as it seems. Millman has beaten Stak two years ago, and Millman has been destroying the challenger circuit while Stak has won one match this swing over a Canadian wildcard. Matchup up wise Millman could be able to grind Stak to the ground and I think John wins in 4.
Ebden vs. Dmitrov - Dmitrov has had a terrible year but he isn't losing to Ebden (who is having a reasonable year despite his terribleness).
Duckworth vs. Chung - Chung is a good talent with one of the technically sound backhands I have ever seen. I've been sold on him for a while. Duckworth is in a bit sketchy since Wimby even if he did take Nishikori to 3 in Washington. Duckworth might have a slightly bigger game but I feel like Chung will be the more solid and get the win in 4.
Kyrgios vs. Murray - 3rd time this year he has had to play him in a slam. Very unusually too in the quarters, 3rd and 1st rounds. Matchup wise we know this is awful for Nick, one of the best returners and will counteract Nick's big game. No expectations but I want to see how Nick comes out and plays. Obivously the attitude needs to change.
Tomic vs. Dzhumir - Pretty good draw for Tomic, Damir has played one hard court match this swing, a straight sets loss in Winston-Salem loss. Bernie has had a good swing (apart from being arrested....) beating Cilic in Montreal, winning a title, had while he got spanked by Dolgopolov in Cincy, Tomic really can make the 3rd round here and go from there, a possible match with Gasquet. I could see Hewitt beating him though.
Hewitt vs. Nedovyesov - Re-match from Hewitt's epic DC win, Lleyton actually has got a winnable first round, would be pretty awesome if he could win that then beat Tomic at his final US Open. Tomic would be a pretty good matchup, Lleyton would know Tomic's weakness, just try to move him around, won't be easy but I think he can do it.
Kokkinakis vs. Gasquet - Gasquet seems to be attracted to the aussies at the moment. I haven't been really sold on Thansai's form although he a great week in Cincy despite everything. He played Richard there and lost in straight but the first was a tiebreaker. Gasquet got the better shot making ability, will just have to hope he's a bit off his game, I can't see it happening.
Smith vs. Youzhny - I keep having to give credit to Smith, he's getting a lot closer to the top 100 then I thought he ever would. And then to qualify for the last 2 slams, he has done well. Youzhny should have too much skill who's slowly getting betetr from his injuries but he's a better player than Smith anyways.

As far as the draw itself, here's the possible R16:
Djokovic vs. Goffin
Raonic vs. Nadal
Nishikori vs. Monfils
Cilic vs. Ferrer
Wawrinka vs. Simon
Anderson vs. Murray
Berdych vs. Gasquet
Isner vs. Federer

Intriguing matchups all round. Possible quarterfinal between Djokovic and Nadal but Nadal has obstacles in his way with a first round With coric which could be brutal. Johnson, Fognini, Lopez, Raonic all possible matchups before the quarters. Nadal is going to have his work cut out for him to make the quarters. Djokovic has Seppi and Goffin, not terribly easy but he'll get past them no problems. The 2nd quarter vould have a possible rematch of the final with Nishikori and Cilic but Dolgopolov, tsong, Monfils, Chardy all floating in this section. Could be a number of guys. 3rdd quarter has Stand and Andy as the mostlikely, Thiem and Simon being the most dangerous, this is a slightly easier section for these two. The last quarter can be interesting if Berdych is still out of form, gasquet could arguably like his chances of making the quarters while Federer doesn't have it all his own way with Mayer and Baghdatis in the opening round, he'll get through them but maybe with a test or two in there.

I have been playing this for about three or four years. I have enjoyed a couple of top ten finishes.
