2nds 2015 VFL List Changes

I would hope DeGoey could play seniors round 1.

i'd prefer not to play new recruits round 1 - let them earn selection in the 2nds.

Out: Beams, Ball
In: Greenwood, Freeman

You do realise you just contradicted yourself? :p

New AFL recruits.

Greenwood has had years in the system and earnt his stripes ... he's just traded in his blue ones for black ones.

Except for this year. He has played ton of VFL for Werribe

I think he meant Freeman. Yet to debut at senior level. Hardly played any VFL footy if any could be wrong.

Some more fixture leaks, as well as a tentative release date (well, two tentative release dates; why can't they just decide on a day and release the damn thing?):

A Collingwood v Northern Blues match has tentatively been set down for Victoria Park on the morning of August 8, but officials of both clubs have been in discussions about a shift to the MCG.

Several clubs including Carlton, Geelong and Essendon have their hands up to host curtain-raisers, with the Northern Blues down for a pair of Etihad Stadium matches prior to Carlton games.

The draft schedule had the Magpies set for a first-round trip to face North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium, while the Pies have also been handed a Saturday night clash with Geelong at Bendigo's Queen Elizabeth Oval. The VFL Magpies will also play Essendon at Windy Hill on Sunday April 26, the day after the clubs' AFL incarnations square off at the MCG on Anzac Day. The draw - set to be released on Wednesday or Thursday - remains subject to change.

So, given that the VFL season starts on the weekend of April 18 (why can't they ever start when the AFL does?), that means the VFL Pies may play only once at Victoria Park in the first month, with two of those first three away games being road trips (North Ballarat at Eureka and Geelong at Bendigo), assuming that the leaks become a final opening month schedule.

Factoring in all of the above and previously leaked/speculated, we can now put together almost half of our likely VFL fixture for 2015:

- April 18/19: North Ballarat (away, seniors play St Kilda on the Friday night so emergencies or unforced late changes will get game time);
- April 26: Essendone (away, seniors of course play the previous day on ANZAC Day, so as above re emergencies);
- May 2nd/3rd: ??? (possible home game at Victoria Park, seniors play the Scum on the Friday night in the milestone-game-that-really-isn't-a-milestone-game-but-let's-pretend-it-is-one-to-stroke-Mick's-ego-and-fatten-the-attendence-numbers-for-Gil-and-save-the-AFL-from-admitting-they-stuffed-up, again ditto on the emergencies)
- May 9: Geelong (away night game but played at Bendigo, seniors play Geelong on the Friday night, ditto);
- June 6/7: Casey (away, likely following the VFL's fixturing pattern of the past 4 years, which means someone will be held over as the seniors play on the Monday);
- June 20/21: BYE (first thing the club requests is for both sides to have their byes to fall on the same weekend and over the past few years they have gotten their way, so I would expect the same this time as well);
- August 1: ??? (possible curtain-raiser to Pies vs Dees);
- August 8: Scum 2nds (home, scheduled for Victoria Park but likely to be moved to the MCG, which means an emergency will likely either be held over or play limited game time just in case);
- August 22: ??? (possible curtain-raiser to Pies vs Tiges).

Again, that's just putting the pieces together from what has been leaked and a bit of guess work from looking at the way the VFL has consistently fixtured some of our games over the past 4-5 years. Don't take any of it to the bank just yet, though...

So, given that the VFL season starts on the weekend of April 18 (why can't they ever start when the AFL does?),
Lack of grounds because of cricket in mid to late March meaning they struggle to get practice matches in would be my guess for the VFL and all of the metro leagues.

No Kyle Martin will mean the VFL will be even tougher watching this season.

But if Scharenberg or Freeman get on the park it'll be alright

Martin is no Real Loss. Was never going to be much of a AFL Player.

With Freeman,De Goey,Moore,Maynard and Cox. It will be great to Watch

Duel best & fairest in the VFL Dave. Just because he isn't one of your favourites does not mean he wont be missed.
He will leave a huge hole in the midfield for our VFL team. (Huge)
Goal kicking mid who won big clearances & laid lots of tackles & kicked multiple goals many times.
Agree that it will still be exciting to watch with the kids coming through, but having Martin there for them would have been awesome.
Ahhh well not to be.

Will hurt the VFL side bud isn’t the reason for the VFL Side is to get Players ready to play in the AFL?

This is the VFL list thread Dave. It would also be nice for the VFL guys to do even better than making up the numbers in the finals.
Not having Martin in the middle will hurt our chances of doing that. I'm a big fan of all our players Dave, not just 3 or 4 players.;)

That is the Goal but number 1 Goal is getting the AFL Listed Players hopefully can play at AFL Level and make the Transtion easy as THEY are playing similar to the AFL team

Will be great to watch but we'll be getting smashed a lot.

We did that Under Lockyer who was not a Great Coach. Tapping had done a ton better job

I'm very disappointed that our two star recruits from last year, Mat Suckling and Tom Couch, have both left the club having played very few games for us due to injury. Still, if we could have a year without too many injuries to our AFL list players (for a change), extra players won't be needed so much.

With Suckling be a massive Pies Fan. I was very Surpised he went back to Norwood.

That is not a good look for Recuriters for the VFL

Especially as he's from Victoria in the first place, I found that very surprising. Perhaps there was something he wasn't happy about, but for any VFL club with an AFL alignment recruiting quality players can't be that easy when they would know they may not even be selected if the AFL team doesn't have too many injuries.

Still, the Collingwood name should be enough to lure some players to the club, when we signed a couple of proven state league stars in Suckling and Couch a year ago I thought it was a sign that we would be taking winning in the VFL much more seriously from then on.

We got Micheal Still who has been playing well for Westies in the SANFL.

I think we get a few Names from the Local Leagues that have played well there.

Though I remember there was a Rumor that Waylan Manson was seen at the Westpac Center. I wonder IF he is trying out with the VFL Side or not
