2016/17 Summer of Cricket - AUS vs India 2nd test- 4th innings

With footy season cooked and the Dees having very few options on the draft table, I thought it a good idea to start a thread for any discussion re the upcoming summer of cricket where I don't have to read the opinions of some of the eggs on the main board.
Is great to have a couple of very solid test playing nations over here this year but I have a bad feeling about how we'll go, particularly against South Africa.

I think unless Starc is fully fit we aren't gonna take 20 wickets
Hazelwood is very good but I don't rate Siddles ability to be a Match winner. He's the guy at the other end while Starcs bowling yorkers
I predict a 1-1 with 2 drawn tests
Warner and Smith will pile on the runs on fast wickets while Amla and Du Plessis will do the same
We needed a fit Cummins and Starc in to rattle them
Unless Hazelwood bowls Like McGrath I can't see us doing too much damage

It's only a three Test series.

I reckon 1-1 with SA making most of the running. Our batting is light on, the tail pretty much starts at 6. And the bowling seems very reliant on Starc.

On the usual roads we get here we'll lose. But if they put some life in the wicket we'll get up, IMO. Johnson is a huge loss, he was always at his best against South Africa. Would just like to go through this series without having to see Sean Marsh

Surely Bugg gets a game on his pest value, batsmen would kick their stumps over just to stop hearing his constant. Yapping

As good a thread to bring it up as any. Couple of former Demons playing for Ovens Valley...

Would switch Watts and Petracca, and also Spencil must be near the side. Prototypical big dumb quick.

No way that Bugg isn't keeping. I think we can safely add McKenna for the one time he'd play as a Dee.

I'd like to see Tom and Oscar being the Albie and Morne Morkal, just loose campaigners throwing down heat and hitting sixes.

I can't see us losing a test to be honest. The Australian test team are the ultimate flat track bullies. 2-0 win over South Africa and 3-0 over Pakistan
We are, but our batting also falls apart after anything more than 3 overs of solid bowling. SA will give us a lot of trouble and Pakistan, who knows? Will be fairly even in both series. Our bowling doesn't seem that dangerous either. I rate Hazelwood, and Starc can go nuts on occasion, but it's thin after that. So unless one of those guys is grabbing 4 or 5 wickets and innings, we'll struggle to get them all out.

SA will beat us, if Warner and Smith fail we are in strife, our tail starts at 6 with Marsh. Their bowling line up is good, I hate to think what they will do under lights with a pink ball at the GABBA. Conversely I only see Starc giving SA batters anything to worry about.

I'm stuck in a pickle. Always followed the stars. Been in qld 10 years and thinking of going for the heat. Is this bad??

I stopped following the stars after the recruited M.Clarke. He will go down as one of best batsmen of the modern era, but is a terrible T20 player.

In fact that is the reason behind our lack of success at that version of the game, picking our test and ODI name players and not the specialists who dominated the dometstic league each year.

* I am going to laugh if Dunn gets injured, two years in a row an ex Dee at the Pies gets a fake injury.

I don't see changing Big Bash allegiance as a particularly bad sin.

Gus is a great choice to open as he can bat with either foot.

It's amazing how poor the quality of Australian batting is atm, there's almost no young batsmen averaging in the 40s, maybe Lynn, khawaja.. Lehmann maybe?
Our test pitches are a disgrace as well, give me a game of 40 wickets with each side struggling to get 300 than 1000 runs in the first innings before the pitch falls apart and we bowl them out in the second for 396.

I'd rather watch someone scrap and fight their way to a century than see warner and smith score centuries as the scores at 1-301

At 29 years old now, still being described as young is very generous!

Petracca is a number 6 if I ever saw one. A regular Andrew Symonds. Spot on with Kent rolling over the Chinamans.

In terms of an MFC Austrlian XI, I'd run with:

1. Hogan - imposing, belligerent opener
2. Viney - grittty and determined opener who is always up for the fight
3. Brayshaw - stylish right hander with shots all around the field
4. Jones - always dependable, solid as a rock, leader
5. Hunt - quick between wickets, freak fielder
6. Watts - classy all-rounder
7. Kent - Glenn Maxwell
8. Petracca - destructive keeper/batsman
9. T. McDonald - express pace complete with lack of control, slogger
10. Gawn - Glenn McGrath
11. Spencer - fast/medium bowler and complete bunny with the bat.

12th man. Jetta - solid legspin and rhb, reliable fielder who is overlooked when he should be a walk-up-start
