The club is desperately in need of a Blight or an outsider who can come in without any knowledge of how players train or how much off-field leadership they show and purely judge them on their football output.

Too many of our players have good club man credits in the bank which prevents us judging them on their on-field performance.
Nah, they should just host a poll on the Adelaide BF forum and select players that we vote in.

Company line. What do your eyes tell you?

If a coach is successfull and he makes calls I don't believe are correct then he will have the runs on the board, I'm sure a lot of things blighty did if they hadn't come of BF posters would have strung him up.

So Pyke is currently looking at this, but I rated his first year so will question him but AT!M his decisions are justified including what he has done with Mackay

Why is it that some posters here believe that training does not show anything.
I'm not a coach but, if I wanted to compare two players normally playing on the wing, I would put each one against one of our defenders at training and find out who is the better player. As an example, if I had to decide between Milera and DMack, I would play them against Smith or any other small defender, and see who would come out on top the most. Or, if you like Atkins and Seedsman.
Just because some players play very good in the SAFL, does not mean they would do as well in the seniors.
Surely you see that SANFL form Is a better gauge of what players will do in the AFL than track work???

In every sport there are trainers and then there are players.

I agree with most of what you have said.
I never had any expectation that he would get every call right this year and to my mind he hasnt. I do believe he has done a good job sofar and has probably exceeded my expectations preseason.

Im not going to say that he hasnt made incorrect calls based purely on the many correct calls he has made and Dmacs continual selection through the year I consider a glaringly incorrect call.

In saying all that, Im a conspiracy theorist by nature who loves observing patterns, and despite those knockers who will scoff at the notion, I dont believe that Pyke had the power in his first season to Veto the entire selection panels decisions. So he may well be in full agreement with a good portion of posters here but simply had his hands tied.

There is no evidence to support this position
If anything, I've found on my four years on BigFooty it takes the coaches six to twelve months to catch up to the group think here. Guys like Petrenko, Martin, VB etc getting games well after the bulk on here had called time on them.

Mackay, it's been more than twelve months since most of us called time on you...

Lol. Dont think I have heard as much talked about any one player than Mackay. Mackay was actually quite good in the early part of last season. The fact is that, as much as we do need a better player to come in and take his spot, nobody really stood up. Seeds came in with great expectations, but was he really much better than Mackay? I didnt think so. On his best day yes. But he had far more off days than Mackay did. Hampton didnt dominate the SANFL like those kids in my day that used to rock up with full beards and P-plates to play U/14s. I preferred Mackay over Hendo.

He is not worth $400k and I dont think we win a flag if he is best 22, but still somebody has to come in and take his spot. Same goes for Thommo.

Training and match intensity are worlds apart. When I was playing amateur cricket, my performance at training was a hell of a lot better than anything I put out in a match. Especially catching. :'(

It would end up like that Itchy and Scratchy focus group.

"You kids don't know what you want, that's why you're still kids, cos you're stupid"

Snap on the catching bit. Took everyone at training dropped most of them in the games. Dammit.

So you've never played with a training champ, can't find the ball in a game player?

Training form is important if there's a correlation between good training and good football or vice versa. But having a good week on the track shouldn't outweigh a run if shit games, especially when you're always great on the track.

We've also had rubbish balance between our inside and outside on our list

No longer - hence Mackay will be finally lucky to get a game given a good run with luck and injury from others

So we're now relying on "Luck" to replace Mackay .........:p:p:p

Gotta love Australia, the amount of small town type stories that pop up nation wide is just great.

"I was just walking down the road, when out of nowhere (insert AFl personality here)...
Strange you say this as I posted Tuesday that none other than Mr Tiprat walked past me while I sat having a coffee at Gertrude and Alice bookshop in Bondi.

Everything else so far has left us stuck with a very inadequate winger in Mackay, may as well hope we finally get lucky in this department.

Noble was involved with coaching, you could see him on the training field at times. He also clearly interacted with the players.

I want someone who has no contact of any kind with the players. Not in the club, not socially, nothing, no opportunity to know how 'good bloke' they are
It's a shame Donald Trump has another job in the pipeline. From the job description he would have been ideal
