So Cripps,Gibbs and Merrett didn't get in the squad and all have carried their sides in teams that weren't expected to win games this year. KB,Darcy etc have to go it's all becoming a joke the AA squad,Rising star etc.

I honestly thought Cripps was a lock for at least the 40 man squad, even if he got pinched for the final squad.

Am happy for Simmo and Doc who do genuinely deserve the recognition but the whole thing lacks credibility for mine. Over it.

Both cripps and merrett can feel robbed by not getting in ahead of tom scully who has had a very good year btw but when you throw up some of his stats against the other 2 in particular cripps he gets monstered in those areas .

Disp clearances Cont-P Tackles
Cripps 566 185 354 139
Merrett 657 95 224 136
Scully 541 65 196 93

So obviously scully has had a lot more uncontested possessions than cripps but without a cripps type player which id use a ward and coniglio getting it out to scully his impact would be minimal . Stats cannot decide a players inclusion ahead of another but the differential between cripps and scully in clearances and contested possessions highlights how those selectors are fools !

Sheesh Josh Jenkins in the squad. You get in an AA squad by running out the back of contests and getting cheap goals from the goal square?
Lloyd did

Wish one of our guys could get 60 cheap goals a season....

AA selectors messed it up again.

The squad should be exactly the same as the * list, they are so ****ing brave.

Docherty should make it but Simpson also deserves it. Hopefully he gets the Bob Murphy treatment and makes the team as well (and named captain)

All Australian selection panel is G McLachlan (chair), K Bartlett, L Darcy, M Evans, D Frawley, G Jakovich, C Ling, M Richardson & W Tredrea

What a fantastic assembly of minds.

"Tom Lynch?"

"Yep."

"Which one?"

"Dunno. Better pick both....".

"Josh Kennedy?"

"Yep."

"Which one?"

...

...anyway, you would have thought they could have found a way to squeeze an extra couple of names in, in amongst all the confusion o_O.

You could split Patrick and Jamie Cripps' stats across the two players, include them both in the team and they'd each probably average more clearances, tackles and contested possessions than some of the mids in the team...

And that's despite Jamie averaging just 1 clearance, 4 tackles and 9 CPs per match...

Disappointed for Cripps but not surprised. Likewise Merrett and Neale. I'm a stathead but they aren't everything. Midfielders are picked on team success because they're generally the driving force behind it. I'm not saying he didn't deserve selection because he did just that the names that have been selected deserve it as well. Bitterly unlucky.

Really hoping that Simmo is given the nod not only on this season but as a career achievement. Nobody in the AFL deserves personal recognition by the league as a whole as much as he does.

Well done to Simmo and Doc on thoroughly deserved nominations. Surely one or both will make the final side - I'll be physically ill if Pittard makes the cut over either of them.

Surprised that all of Cripps, Merrett and Riewoldt missed out on the squad. All had great years & I'm not sure what more they needed to do to get in.

Playing for Sydney, Geelong or Hawthorn or just being Scott Pendlebury would have helped their causes as the judges for this vote wouldn't see many games featuring teams such as Carlton.

The system is flawed. They need to make the vote for this award open to the public. Having the usual suspects make their flawed choices is sad for those that miss out.

Anyone who comes first in any of the key categories - goals, possessions, clearances, contested possessions - should not miss out on at least a spot in the extended squad.

It's rather nuts Cripps isn't there...

1st 185 total clearances (22 more than Josh P. Kennedy)
1st 73 centre clearances (14 more than Josh P. Kennedy)
1st 112 stoppages (8 more than Josh P. Kennedy)
8th in Tackles (139 tackles)

That is a lot more than Kennedy.

Maybe the judges for this award like the outside midfielders more than the inside midfielders as Scully and Pendlebury have both been nominated.

Cripps got a whopping 80 plus more clearances than Pendlebury. If it was only 50 more it would be a whopping difference.
Surely clearances are a key measurement....or are easy kicks on the wing now better?
Supposedly so.
The voting is flawed. It should be open to the public to vote on this.
