I suggested that earlier this year but was told that rule no longer exists. Makes more sense than an amatuer league player being captain.
I think it is still available to us but we dont have a lot of candidates and ran out of time. We offered the gig to Porps but he is happy at Westies. There really aren't any other recently retired players we would bring back. I'm all for VB being the guy next year.

With South defeating Sturt today, I think we can pretty much lock this in. Saturday, September 3 at 12:10pm, Elimination Final, Adelaide v Centrals, Adelaide Oval.

With no AFL that weekend, hopefully we can get a good turn out of support for the boys in our first SANFL final.

Excuse my ignorance and has probably been covered already, but why does our SANFL side have about 15 byes this year?
SANFL wanted season to start on Good Friday and end on AFL PF weekend. 18 matches doesn't fit into that period of time well.

At the last minute (once most players had been signed), the SANFL approached the clubs and offered a 20 game season. The clubs naturally told the SANFL to get stuffed, hence we have dogs breakfast we have this season.

I believe next year it will revert to a 20 game season (which is was pre-Crows Reserves) with 2 byes/split rounds as clubs have had 12 months to plan for that (as opposed to 5 minutes the SANFL gave them this season).

The introduction of Adelaide means that they now have enough teams for an 18-game H&A season, where everybody plays everyone else once at home and once away. However, they still wanted to stagger that over a 22 round season, so they weren't starting obscenely late, or finishing obscenely early.

That means 4 byes spread throughout the season. Plus a 5th for the state game, with no games held that week.

The SANFL in their wisdom chose to schedule those byes really badly, so that Adelaide only played 2 games in 5 weeks in the middle of the season.

The rule is still there because the Crows apparently tried to push the envelope by approaching Paul Thomas to play and captain our reserves this year.

The Crows tried to justify it because Thomas was a Crows rookie at one stage in his career, but the SANFL nixed it.

Not getting ahead of myself but a what if?

What if Adelaide make the Prelim and no-one goes to the SANFL GF?
AFL Prelims are usually Friday and Saturday. SANFL GF will be Sunday. Hopefully we can get a home prelim Friday or Saturday then we can all go to the SANFL GF on Sunday. All essential crows and AO members get access to SANFL finals so we should get a decent amount of support for a change.

I am going to head down on Saturday to the Parade to watch this weeks game. The one time when I can watch as a neutral being a member/supporter of both clubs. Think we ( the crows ) will beat us (norwood) by 10-15 goals. Especially with the players coming in this week.

Be unlikely that would happen, and we've sorta seen a precedents in 2014 when they got 38,000 to a Port Magpies v Norwood GF the day after Port Power played a PF in Melbourne.

There will be enough fans that either won't go to the PF in Melbourne and will go to the SANFL GF, or will go to both.

What a line up, should have an easy win.
Great to see Riley Knight back too, it been a terrible year for him unfortunately.
The team structure looks so much better when we aren't playing 3 ruckman in the team.
Could this week be Menzels week where he has a break out game for the Crows, lets hope so.
